Time for an update on the Intima RS compound I think, so in a hasty rush to get my car ready for All Jap Day in Sydney (some what a great kick up the backside to finish the car off) I decided to give the brake department a quick check and the pads that I was using before have been superseded by the current 2022 compound. I thought why not replace them since the last set was at about 50% pad life.

Say hello to the new and improved Intima RS compound!

Note: I am using the DC5R version of the IN1520 pad as they're currently on backorder. The DC5R version is about 2mm thinner.

Initial impressions, wow... just wow, they hook up even though I didn't even give them a chance to bed in properly. After bedding them in, that's where they really perform on the street. For a track oriented pad, the performance from cold they're providing can somewhat described similar to the Project Mu HC+ (not the HC800 version). Nice predictable initial bite, and as you feed in the brakes you can really experience the braking capacity.

The braking effort (on the street) when compared to the test Intima RS pads was much less. Comparing these to the old Type-D v2 compound is just day and night. The older Type-D v2 pads were progressive, they worked but always need a fair amount of pedal effort. These are completely different, I would say you would really need to change your braking habits if you're used to the Type-D 2 pads.

I haven't had a chance to try them on a race track just yet (was supposed to be last Sunday, however All Jap Day was cancelled due to adverse weather). I suspect I'll be going to Wakefield Park in the coming months and will report back on how they perform!

Tech Details:

Disclosure: Previous test Intima RS pads were provided to me for free and the current set in my car has been provided for review at a heavily discounted price.

Car is running DBA T3 4000 all round (I hate slotted rotors, but yes the rears are slotted as DBA ran out of plain rotors when I needed them back then). Front caliper is from a 350Z, rear is factory.

Nice review, looking forward to track tests.

I've now driven a few cars with the endless ME20 pad.
All Track only
Very good initial bite from cold and super consistant for over 10 laps at Lakeside and 5-6 laps at Morgan Park.
All cars were using dba standard replacement and either Gulf or Penrite 600f fluid

Hawk 5.0 pads - still wearing them in but already biting very hard, and a very progressive pad. Cost literally 4x as much as the Remsa pads, being imported from the US but, so far so good.

    • I appreciate the detailed explanation, think I understand now. I spent the better part of last night reading what I could about shuffle and potential solutions. I had replaced the OEM twin turbo pipe with an alternate Y pipe that is separated further away from the turbo. The current one is from HKS and I had a previous pipe that was separated even further away, both have shuffle. I had heard that a divider can be welded in to the OEM pipe to remove turbulence, and figure that aftermarket pipes that are more separated would achieve the same thing. From what I read, most people with -10 turbos get shuffle due to their size, though it's a bit less common with -5s on a standard RB26. I think Nismoid mentioned somewhere it's because OEM recirculation piping is common in Australia with -5 cars. It seems that the recommendation tends to vary between a few options, which I've ordered in what I think is most feasible for me:  1. Retune the MAP or boost controller to try to eliminate shuffle 2. Install OEM recirculation piping 3. Something called a 'balance pipe' welded onto the exhaust manifolds. I don't know if kits for this are available, seems like pure fabrication work 4. simply go single turbo My current layout is as follows: Garrett 2860 -5s HKS Racing Suction intake MAF delete pipes HKS racing chamber intake piping hard intercooler piping,  ARC intercooler HKS SSQV BOV and pipe Haltech 2500 elite ECU and boost solenoid/controller HPI dump pipes OEM exhaust manifolds HKS VCAM step 1 and supporting head modifications Built 2.6 bottom end All OEM recirculation piping was removed, relevant areas sealed off I'll keep an eye out for any alternative solutions but can get started with this.  Only other question is, does shuffle harm the turbo (or anything else)? It seems like some people say your turbo shafts will explode because of the opposing forces after a while and others say they just live with it and adjust their pedal foot accordingly.
    • That worked out PERFECTLY! Thank you big time to JJ. He was able to swap me his stock diff. He drove all the way to me as well. Killer! Removal & install was pretty straightforward. The diff itself is HEAVY. So that’s a 2 man job.  Man does the car drive nice now! Couldn’t have worked out any better 👌
