I'm nearly a full licensed driver and I have a budget of $28,000 to buy my next car. I did own a R32, but I want much more power.

I have decided to either get a manual R34 GT-T or a manual S15 Silvia. The problem is which one? I know that the R34 has a bigger engine (2.5L compared to 2.0L) but the S15 is lighter and would probably make up for this.

Has anyone driven the two and noticed that one is more powerful then the other? Does anyone have stats on 1/4mile and 0-100 for these cars stock?

I need your help!!

i have driven both and would have to say that the s15 would be a better thing to drive, but seems no where near as powerfull...

why not settle for an R33 GTR? And when you say you owned an R32, im guessing this was a GTS or a GTST etc...

In what ways was the S15 better?

I really want a 1999 or older, plus isnt the R33 GTR over $30,000?

I am Skyline fan, but specifically only a R33 maniac (so a hundreds of my friends). When I hear Skyline, I automatically think of the R33 as the beast that will start all, end all. If you look hard enough, you can find a R33 GT-R for around $30K or slightly less even.

Don't go for the R34, looks wonky, boxy and is way too heavy. If I had to choose between the two, I would go S15 as it does have a nice shap, light as and is pretty powerful in it's own right.

Hope that answers your question.

No offense intended to R34 owners, just don't like the way they handle and look!

had a s15 and drive a r34 now

the r34 is a lot more refine, but s15 is a lot more exciting

assume u are young, who can live with the harshness of s15

s15 is definitely a better car

remember they win PCOTY 02? That explains a lot how great they are

And once u driven a 6 speed u don’t want to look back :P

What about room inside the cabin.....??

What about shape modern or ancient?

What are you going to use it for...??

For myself..it was a choice between R33GTR and R34GTT...2 years ago they were the same price...$35K

You have the luxury of choosing between R34GTT and S15...I would choose GTT..lots of style and

with some small modes...cant see a S15 catching it...LOL

This is perhaps the most informative thread on the dilemma between an r34gtt and s15, as most experiences are from first hand owners and have either owned or driven both. Im probably in the same position now, owned a r32 and selling it now :P and are contemplating either 34gtt or s15 that will make a better car. Interior exterior, i think the s15 wins hands down and in terms of power the sr20 is very potent too. Would be a very hard choice, even for myself now, but the pick probably would be the r34gtt.

I was 50 / 50 myself till last weekend. I drove a lot of S15s and S14s (heavily modified) and yes they can be really fast and really fun. Great cars overall, but I found myself a 1998 GTT Manual Turbo that is in show room condition for $18500, and I cant say that I am disappointed. The car is really refined and clean. I love the mod cons too like traction control. For me it came down to the quality of the individual car rather than a choice between a S15 or a GTT.

No offence but you dont have taste..

And r34's are 20kg more than an r33 so what are you talking about when you say they are way too heavy?

well this topic has been asked about 50 times ..

However.. S15 is a sexi ass car.. Interior is nicer and with mods can easily match a R34 .. However the R34 being a straight 6 with simple mods puts out heaps more Rwkws..

R34 has more torque for sure .. I think boosted to 12psi it runs somnething like 500nmi which is pretty zippy off the line.. I struggle to keep my wheels from spinning on my semi stocker running something like 175rwkws..

s15 shits on the r34 suspension .. the s15 handles and feels like a performance car .. but $1000 on a r34 suspension for coil overs and anti roll will set you to the same standard.. Of course an s15 with these mods will be just as good as the 34..

R34 is kind off dull inside where as when you pop in a s15 your greeted by new design and cleaver features but it isnt that great in there but does have alot of kewl buttons.. the s15 you also set deeper where as the r34 seems to be driving a higher car even though it sits alot lower than most on the road just seems that way .. but shit damn seats are so comfy

Yes s15 is lighter but the 2.5 Neo in the r34 like I said before gives it the edge..

I went through the same gut wrenching decision .. came out with a 34 .. couldnt be happier.. s15s are common r34s arnt and everyone looks at it .. with some mods the r34 also looks alot meaner (cosmetics) but I have to say some flaring on a s15 and some 10" rears will set you up nicely with a PHAT look..

Hands down to the 34 in my mind.. s15 is good but seriously you cant beat a SKYLINE... sleek sexi and powerful.. If you can get one in bayside blue which is very very hard to do your in with a winner :woot:

Pm me if you need any other info

ur a smart man .. r34 for the win .. dont pay for than 25g for one tho unless you buy that filo34 on the forums .. damn thats shit hot and in red.. do you know how hard that is to get RED!!!

    • When you crank your car, and hit it with a timing light, can you see a steady crank timing?
    • Oh, forgot to add, A few months ago I was getting mixture codes and the car was using crap loads of fuel. You could smell the unburned fuel in the exhaust, it was crazy strong. Economy was over 17.5 l/100 and usually around 19. I smoked the engine and found a leaky CCV hose which I replaced and then I replaced my two pre cat O2 sensors, I also replaced the MAF. This fixed my mixture codes and improved my exonomy but I'm still 14 - 15 l/100 when pottering about town so something is still amiss. Throttle response is much better and it has more pep but I'd like to know why it's still so thirsty (and I'm hoping that whatever it is gives me a bit more poke).

    • Hello all, currently finishing up a rb25 swap into my s14. Having issues with starting, car has spark (confirmed by pulling a plug and watching it spark), has fuel(confirmed by checking pulse/voltage at injectors all spark plugs are soaked in fuel). Car cranks over and pops into the exhaust with a heavy fuel smell but no attempt to start or run, I have torn the timing cover off and triple confirmed timing, turned the CAS in multiple spots both directions, attempted to start with coolant temp and maf unplugged, checked my fuel lines and made sure they weren’t backwards, checked voltage at cas/injectors/coilpacks, made sure all the grounds in the harness are connected and added a few grounding straps (1 from chassis to block, 1 from chassis to head, and 1 from chassis to igniter chip) I am getting stumped here. As a last ditch effort I made a full grounding harness tonight that’s going to run from the battery and add an extra ground from the battery onto the coil pack harness/igniter chip/ intake manifold/ Wiring specialties harness ground/ and alternator. I’m hoping maybe the grounding harness will fix it here but posting here to see if anyone has any other ideas on what else I can check. My fuel pressure is unknown right gauge will be here tomorrow.  IMG_3206.mov
    • yeah I was shocked when I checked my spare OEM on and as below that's how they come from Nissan. (side interesting note new NEO gearbox and replacement park lack the brass bush on the tips and its just all alloy) unsure about damage to the box currently back at 1110 to be pulled down/inspected and selector fork replaced as he built it previously and given the never before seen failure on his billet forks he is replacing it under warranty. He said he has used always OEM the keyway tab without issue for years so it could be an unlucky coincidence. I did talk to him about the sharp corners and stress concentration too. Re: hard shifts i got 7+ years out of the OEM one and the fork itself failed not the keyway. so could be bad luck as I said or an age thing + heat cycles in box and during fabrication of billet?
