After talking with one of our Show 'n' Shine sponsors Pro Coat, I have organised a group buy on their two most popular services.

The group buy starts when we have 10 items booked in here on this thread and will end two months after that. Don't post up if you're not serious.

Turbo exhaust housings normally cost $110 to get coated but for the duration of the group buy paid up members of the various state clubs will pay $80 and ordinary forum members will pay $85. Basically you remove the housing from the turbo (not difficult and wont unbalance your turbo or anything like that) and send it to Pro Coat who are based on the Central Coast.

Exhaust manifolds normally cost $275 to $363 but for the group buy, paid up members will pay $242 and non members will pay $250.

I will have 100% confirmation of these prices and pictures as well as much more info tomorrow. Those of you who race will understand what's being offered here and so wont need the fluff. You can post your interest now. Everyone else, more info coming.

Actually it's niether. It's the polished ceramic coating and looks like this.

I'm trying to get a stock manifold with coating pic.

The black coating is much more expensive as not only is the raw material 4 times the cost of the polished ceramic, but it is actually applied over the top of it. So you have two layers.

Stuart at Pro Coat has told me that the black coating is more used in full racing situations. It's called TurboX. He can do this coating for us at a similar discount but may cost around an additional 80% on the above quoted prices. If there is demand for this I will get solid prices.

Here's a pic of the black coating.

Now you might like the polished look and get your bits coated for asthetic reasons but it's actually there to hold the heat in. Basically you get two benefits:

1. By maintaining heat in the exhaust gases you maintain the velocity. As the heat dissipates it loses velocity. In a turbo car you want that exhaust exiting as fast as possible.

2. Reduced engine bay temperatures.

Posts updated.

I suspect that I can get other discounts as a group buy once we have the numbers up so feel free to post up questions on any other parts you might want coated. He's got some pretty lurid colours available too. Personally I'm looking at the black graphite coating I think it is that transfers the heat out rather than holding it in. This is used on the inlet side of the engine, eg compressor covers and inlet manifolds. Better than paint for that RB26 plenum if yours is peeling.

I have one quick question. the $242 price for a manifold (assuming you mean regular 6 cyl skyline manifold). what's the deal for GTRs which have 2 half sized manifolds? Is it still $242 (wishful thinking). Surely it wont be $242 X 2. Perhaps somewhere in the middle?

yeah, only if it's no big hassle. I have some new manifolds for the GTR and thinking I may coat them before fitting. thanks mate.

I don't think there is enough interest here for the group buy to go ahead but I think if everyone who is interested ring Stuart and tell him this is where you found out about him. I'm sure he will do his best to look after you.

A day late and a dollar short.........

I'm interested, I have a turbo housing, manifold, and wastegate base. I'll give Stuart a call, I'd actually like to discuss preparation, whether thread holes have to be bolted up, how are gasket surfaces masked off, etc.

If Stuart knows what he is doing and prefers to do it, fine...........or would he prefer me to do it and what material do I mask with etc. I really hate having a surface 'contaminated'. eg the wastegate valve guide???

Oohh and in black of cos'

    • All of this is making it seem clear that running the Coppermix twin was definitely the way to go, especially in hindsight with how insane tariffs have gotten and the strength of the USD vs yen at the time.
    • That sounds like no chance of even importing one for road registering then Now I see why Duncan wants to check LHD rules for Targa...   I wonder how "bolt in" the AWD would be if you got one imported from the US and swapped it to an AUD one
    • Not to mention they drive like a bucket of bolts! yuck!
