Was riding my pushie down Bakers Rd, Coburg (automotive industrial area) today when a red Monaro caught my eye coming towards me.

First thought was that it sounded extra tough! Then as it went past it clicked - it was a bloody HRT 427! It had the distinctive hood with NACA ducts and bonnet release pins, and I could make out the half cage in there too. My jaw pretty much dropped as it went past, not somewhere you'd expect to see such a supremely rare car. I guess there's the chance it could've been a mockup, but all the badges were correct and the huge apRacing discs were in there too. What are the chances?

^ Why is this in a thread full of good cars?

Show some respect son; thing is a still born beeeeeast.

Likely a mockup, colour, as the few that they made of these cars (possibly even only 2 from memory) are safely locked away, museum style, hardly being driven. A couple of companies offered to make replicas; it wouldn't be too difficult given many were already offering to slot a 7 litre into Commodores/Monaros.

from a while ago (and not spotted by me), but i'm mates with Melbourne Photographer, Tom Fraser, and he texted me this photo a few weeks ago of a shoot he was doing

Also was at a Sandown track day last month, with some cars you don't see everyday (not sure if track spots count)

FFFUUUUUUUUU!!!!

Looks epic!

458 Italia with bolt on flared guards at the rear..?

Yeah, it's a 458 challenge. Factory built track car i think, no VIN numbers or anything. Built to GT3 touring car spec.

Showed up briefly to make use of the empty track while everyone was called in to lunch. Provided a very nice soundtrack :D

Ah see! Yeah would have sounded insane!

So kind of like the Pagani Zonda R, a Track Spec only car... in a sense.

How would you even go about importing the 458 Challenge in?

    • Possibly avoid using a Cometic one unless the deck/head surface are perfectly flat. I did have a look just then and forgiving gaskets such as Tomei or Nitto don't exist for the FJ20, however the Bar-Tek or Kameari ones look good and might do the trick.
    • Because pipe threads for pipe things. M threads for bolt things. Throw some teflon sealant onto it and dust your hands off knowing you did the right thing, instead of going twice around the block to achieve a result using the wrong things. Of course, all of these solutions are ignoring the fact that the minimum thread pitch we're talking about here is 1.25mm, with the 1/4" in NPT or BPS being out around 1.4mm. You will need to know that the boss you're tapping has enough thickness for at least a few threads. That's one of the reasons that 1/8" is commonly used - because the pitch is <1mm. And why would you look to use 1/4" NPT in a BSP country anyway? Ugh.
    • Just throwing around ideas, does it need to be in the compressor cover? Why not the hot side piping?
    • 1/8NPT drill size = 8.7mm. Since the hole got messed up by me, it’s probably around 9mm.    So 1/4” NPT would be next step. A drill size of around 11mm would be preferred there which is not way of my M12 (drill 10.5mm and tap M12 threads)
