Just contact Murnane Motors direct on 0755357411 and they will organize everything with you as the warranty on these turbo's is based with them being the manufacturing workshop.

thats actually a good idea.

problem is, Slide doesnt want me to send the turbo to him at all. he doesnt want anything to do with it as far as i can tell. he's trying to shift responsibility.

i dont want to send my turbo to his warranting company because ive never dealt with them, or even knew about them to begin with, so how can i trust them?

if slide pays for the GCG quote of $75, pays for postage (not sure what it will cost), ill send it to HIM for him to take care of.

It appears that slide has used them to manufacture the turbo. Hence they had no contact with you but rather Slide was the middleman between you and them.

Murnane built it, so Murnane will fix it. Murnane answers to Slide, Slide answers to you. So ultimately Murnane is responsible for the turbo.

Slide is giving you the opportunity to send the turbo directly to them, rather than you send the turbo to slide, and slide then sends the turbo to Murnane. Its a waste of time and money to do that.

Give the info you have to Murnane to repair it, if that fails, then its refund time.

Mate - I don't think anyone would deny that you have perhaps been hard done by here, but the fact of the matter is, if you want the warranty then you haven't got much choice. I think he is within his rights to ask you to send it to be repaired from the place of manufacture. This is not turbo (or car part)specific at all - it happens with a million and one items you purchase. You don't always get a choice.

Bottom line is, you bought a cheap turbo, it's faulty, the manufacturer is offering to fix it.

Unless you give them the opportunity to fix it - a full refund is a matter a good will on Slides part - nothing more.

Being biased towards GCG turbo's since i run one myself i would rather have them rebuild it, you've driven my car so you know how well it runs.

But since i know how much they are to rebuild and the fact that you shouldn't have to pay for it, it looks like your best bet is what others have said and get the warranty repair and have GCG check it out properly.

Sucks that you have 2 'reputable' turbo companies with different diagnosis' though....

yeah, ive decided that as long as sliding performance pays for GCG's time and postage that i'd send it to sliding performance personally. i will not send it to a company i have never heard off till now. i think that is being very reasonable.

I'd call Fair Trading to get some solid advice on the best way to proceed.

Spend a little more to begin with... do it right the first time imo.

how is that relevant to his situation?..he is asking for opinions as to what to do now, not what he should have done..

joe, my advice would be to send it to the warranty company with the list of repairs provided by GCG. Then, upon its return, ask GCG to inspect it again to see if it is A ok. Of course, these costs involved in shipping, re inspection will need to be forked out by somebody. Maybe you need to make some arrangment with SP here.

If it is just a bit of a one off, i would let the said workshop repair the turbo as SP are asking. Then u can take ur chances with refitting it or paying to have gcg inspect it to see if it is indeed 100%

it might cost u a bit of time and money but this is the real world and its not always nice. warranties or garantees dont mean too much to me, unless i have faith in the product i just dont buy it. that is unless i can afford to lose the money, harsh but sometimes as others have said its best to spend money on proven($$) parts .

at the end of the day i dont have the money or the time, because time is money too, to take companies to court and stuff around like that.

i personally know someone who had their slide turbo completely shit itself.

slide refuses to pay the GCG fee and postage even after he told me to send it there.

i think this is now going to develop into a court case. ive spoken to my old man who said i should go through with it.

ill have to contact the department of fair trading first, wont i?

slide can't do much more (under the current circumstances) than ask you to send it to Murnane to be repaired. i don't know what difference it makes whether you know them or not this is their attempt to meet their warranty obligations.

if you send it anywhere else it is your choice and your cost.

i would send it to Murnane and discuss GCG findings with them and let them fix it.

civil case is $26 to apply. department of fair trading is $0.

and i'll be sueing for all costs incurred including legal fees which will be around $1500ish because of labour etc.

its not a major loss on my part.

the advice ill give tho is to send it where SP want you to, discuss with them what GCG have said and let them know when u get it back u will be sending it to GCG for another inspection and if it fails that u will be pursing legal action etc.

Stuff the warranty, get a full refund.

If full refund isn't possible, then sue them for the full amount, its only fair.

I agree you should, its a waste of time on your behalf.

Why should you have to send it off to GCG to be repaired, you paid to get a new working turbo didn't you? Its also not like the damage was caused on your behalf or negligence.

Its already been sent off once, which to me already seems like 1 time to many.

    • My dream is also to have a proper hoist, but I don't think it will ever happen. My quickjack is probably as close as I'll ever get, it really is very good though. 
    • Yeah we keep on in the dailies, it is pretty poor how many animals get hit and the driver leaves without checking....have saved a couple of little ones over the years. That needs to be kept but might be able to be relocated But the bad news, the big computer mounted vertically in front of the wheel (blocking any potential air exit) is the electric steering computer. That is required until/unless i do a hydraulic steering conversion, and in CAD based modern car design it is not like I can just pop a big unit like that somewhere else (plus the loom would be too short anywhere else too). So, the passenger side is OK to clear out (just use a smaller washer reservoir, potentially elsewhere), but the DS no beuno
    • Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.
    • BTW I measured the jack I have, it is 70mm at the saddle but you only have about 700 until it returns to 150mm high at the cylinder so it is good but no magic bullet.
    • My experience with Rising Sun Exports Before agreeing to the sale I tried to do as much research as I could (obviously), his Facebook reviews are 98% and he goes Live at least once or twice a week. I contacted 2 people in the UK who had used him for their imports, both had positive feedback. His explanation and talk through of the import process was thorough, answering any query no matter how stupid it was. It felt as soon as the money was sent, communication dropped off. I asked for shipping updates every 2 weeks or so, not wanting to pester him, he never had any updates. I wasn't informed the car had been dropped off at the port, I only found out by his Facebook story. I asked for the photos taken at the port, knowing he would need some for insurance purposes. I received a few 5 second clips and that's it. When asked again, he said his staff had them. Weeks later I asked again, he tells me he doesn't have any, but does have 50 photos from the original advert. I never received them. I eventually got the documents sent via WhatsApp after I mentioned the port was requesting them. I purchased a CarVX report, to find out the vehicle is a Grade R with recorded accident damage, first recorded in 2017 when it was first auctioned. He never told me the grade, then again I didn't ask. His response was "Grade R means nothing, it wasn't chassis damage". Still, I would have liked to have been informed about it. Jon prides himself on being open and honest when it comes to inspecting cars, it's his main job doing so at the auctions for customers. When the vehicle arrived in the UK I noticed a few little cosmetic issues. It's a 21 year old car so it wasn't going to be mint condition. The side skirts are cracked on each corner and the sealant is failing. The front grill on the bonnet/hood isn't secured very well, mounting studs are missing. Both minor things, but again, it would have been nice to be told. During a Facebook Live walk around video of the vehicle, he mentioned it has a front Whiteline anti roll bar/sway bar. While on the inspection ramp, I noticed the stock item has been installed. When first questioned, his response was "the ARB? Switched? Since when, it never had them". Since sending video and photo evidence I've not received a response. I'm probably being over critical of the overall condition of an old car, but all I wanted was honesty (which he claims to have). I'm aware I wasn't his only customer, he's busy doing XYZ but other reviews praise him for great communication with regular updates and photos, I felt I didn't receive the same treatment.
