Going through the RB26 turbo upgrade thread it looks like most people upgrade the twin turbo set up and get great results.

What are the benefits of pulliing the two turbos out and just getting one big one?

Is this seen as a better or worse option that upgrading the two turbos or is it no difference?

Would one turbo make more power than the twin turbo set up?

Sorry for the ignorance but Im a GTR newbie trying to build up knowledge as Im seriously considering buting one in next few months.

Cheers

i think the reason behind most twin turbo upgrades apart from the obvious more power, is because it still looks factory..

so when a cop opens ur bonnet, instead of havin a 600hp massive single sittin all high and mighty, u have the same 600hp but in theyre stock locations. meaning as far as the cop knows, its a standard GTR...

plus that also means, u can use standard oil lines, water lines, dump pipes and everything else provided they are a bolt on replacement for the GTR :)

If you do your typical mods like Front mount intercooler,Tomei stage 2 cams with adj cam gears, injectors, ignition coils, exhaust turbo back, ecu usually Apexi Power Fc, and either Garret ball bearing direct spec replacement turbos to factory which i have or N1 or hks this will still give you fantastic street responce actually better than factory responce great drivability and round about 330 to 370Rwkw max depending on the engine as to how new or tired it may be getting. I still have factory air flow meters and got a 352Rwkw and i am installing the Tomei stage 2 cams now which i know yield great results as one of my close buddys has the same as me and achieved 375Rwkw with all the same mods listed, hope this helps.

its just easier to replace the twins because you can keep your exhaust manifolds and inlet piping the same. Plus, you dont have to buy an external wastegate. Replacing things like this isnt cheap

Also, the response and top end of the twin bolt ons can both be phenomenal with spool up superior to a big single due to less rotating mass/inertia

Personally, i like the idea of having a non-defectable, factory looking, 11 second street car. Not many other cars can claim to be that

If your to go the twin way, remember to do dump's and front pipe also. add that to your cost. as your alot better off to do this while the turbos are off. it will save time and money!!

I'm yet to see a justification for dump pipes. Front pipes yes - dump pipes in theory but I've never seen a difference in real life (I'm still running the standard dumps and have looked at comparitive dyno graphs with cars with the same turbo's / engine as me and there's no difference).

But thats another story.

My opinion is as above. Unless you are going REALLY big power then twins are the answer.

The R34 dump pipes are great from the factory.

The R32 and R33 are significantly worse.

Go garrett and you should not be spending more than $2,500 for the turbo's alone. About $2,100 for a pair of 2560's. Greenline and Nengun are overseas mailorder traders that are only necessary if you are going with trust or hks etc. All garrett stuff is in stock in most states. For your power goals, i think the 2560's would be a great choice with nice early spool and great power potential with the right supporting mods.

except that there is none available from garret currently (-5's that is).

I have a set which haven't even been fitted yet. If my car sells (somene genuine seems interested and approached me, jyst depends on their cirtcumstances), I'll be selling them separately.

You can run 11's on the stock turbos if you can drive.

Its been done before a number of times

I would have left mine, but the factory ceramics scare me with the horror stories... I wish I could just leave with nothing hanging around in the back of my mind! Even though the car is so new, I still would rather be safe than sorry...

    • Haha, i kow right? Could have bought so many cars for the same amount of money (or less) but driving Unicorn gives you at least +1mln to style 😅. Like wise man said "life's to short to drink cheap wine and drive boring cars" 😉
    • Newbie here, proud owner of an Autech 260RS. I'm on the hunt for wiring diagrams specific to the 260RS, particularly S1. I've ran my eyes through R33, R34 Diagrams, there are some similarities, however continue to find incorrect wire colours and pins on connectors in the 33,34 diagrams.   I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction? I'd be happy to pay for the originals in Japanese. I can translate them, at least they would be accurate.   Any help please would be greatly appreciated, never heard an RB26DETT before let alone driven one, and I've got a spaghetti monster of goodness to sort out.   Cheers Benny
    • Hey all  im wondering if you can help me please I have put a rb20 box in my r34 gtt as my auto packed up and a friend had a spare box I know it’s not ideal but it will get me up and running for now. we have done the conversation and everything is working great but my Speedo we got a s13 speed sensor but my Speedo reads double now and I bought a speed converter but still not having any luck.  so I thought I’ll reach out and pick your brains  any help would be appreciated please as I wanna drive my car again
    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
