Your car has an STD???... :)

I'd stay away from WRXs if I was you... ...Never know what you can catch from them... :D

I kick your car every time I walk past it at the workshop andrew. I think of you and I kick it.

Hey btw, did you end up buying Sam's R31? I was thinking of buying as a runaround while I get my car repainted.

Hehehe...

My GF has a teddy bear that she does that to every time I spend too much time with my car...

Poor bear... ...I use my car for work... :D

yes, yes i am referring to that tissue box on wheels.

Get your mate to check his earlier (184kw) dyno sheet. On the below he will see that the intake temp meter was out of whack. Read something stupid like 186 degrees.

That is the reason it read so high previously. The intake temp sensor was playing up sometime ago which Ray unfortunately did not know about until after that vehicle was dynoed.

Also FYI. For strapping to cause lower readings, this is generally due to "over tighetning" on the straps. Most cars on the night were "very" lightly strapped. So should have no effect on low readings.

Most likely other dyno's are "happy" or mechanics using the intake temp sensor trick to boost figures.

At the end of the day, the best way to tell if the power is down, is by how it drives.

Cheers.

TBH I was very suprised when i went with him and he made 184awkw, it was after we put on a new top mount cooler and some more boost, I was expecting more around 140 odd. Although i think something must have been up with the 117 figure, not saying it was to do with the dyno or settings, but prob his car then, cos we dynoed it stock and it made 120awkw and now has full exhaust, bigger top mount, cai, and boost controller. I think it would have probably been his clutch maybe. Hmmm He's not going to want to hear about the sensor being faulty though, He'll be shattered...oh well guess Ray will have to break to him - be gentle... :S

Dyno days are supposed to fun, of course there are going to be some people surprised at their result, but who cares?? Dynos are a tuning tool, not for tools to brag how much power they have.

Real results are shown out in the real world, on the track. You could have a million rwkw dyno graph, but if you don't have any times do back it up then leave that to the dyno queens.... Credit should be given to times and performance on the track, not dyno figures....

You don't have to be a genius to work out that 117mph doesn't relate to 200rwkw GT-T, doesn't matter how happy or sad a dyno is.... as long as you use the same dyno to tune the car every time you upgrade then your figures are going to be consistent..

That's my opinion.......

I agree with your opinion, I just thnik my mate will be a lil dissapointed when he finds out that the intake temp sensor was faulty and that he's been under the impression of having a much higher powered car than he has... Cos he has been using the same dyno since the car was stock. Ah well, maybe he'll hurry up and decide to single turbo it then

Awesome...i managed 4 pics!

Yeah mine ran a little less than when it was tuned, but hey, who really cares?

Like Jack said, take it to the track and lets see who can handle the horsepowerrr!!!!

...Great night!

Hope there is something similar on soon at a diff workshop, would be good to compare a few dynos from around the place.

Hmm A tiuuse box that made it to many track events before It got sent in for a paint job unlike some cars that rarely see the track

Plus someone needs to carry a tissue box for all the little kiddies in the north and west side

lol the tissue box would be painted sooner if someone got off his ass n prepped the car

*cough*andrew*cough*slackass*cough*

WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After numerous chats we finally got a face to face meet....and i just assumed the Cossie was at home as ...ah fark! :P

hey Troy,

yeah, it was nice to finally meet you in person and talk about the RB20 legend you have.

btw, my apologies as i forgot to mention that i had the RS500 there. maybe next time :D

Jack normally i would agree with what you have stated, but when i enter a dyno day, i like to compair my mods/performance to another car's mods/performance. This usually can not be done as all dynos read different, and should only be taken as a tuning tool. But when you have all the cars on the same dyno on the same day, it should be an ideal situation to compare results, otherwise why pay the entry fee?

I for one can not understand how a car with an rb25neo, Tomei cams, 550cc inj, 450hp turbo and pfc; gets almost 50kw less than a car with an rb25, std injectors, std cams, 400hp turbo and pfc. It's just beyond me :D

    • Even more fun, leave all the ADAS stuff plugged in, but in different locations, hopefully avoid any codes!   And honestly, all these new cars with their weird electronics. Pull all the electronics out Duncan, and just shove an aftermarket ECU and if needed a trans controller in, along with a PDM. Make it run basic but race car styled!
    • To follow up a question from earlier too since I had the front bar off again (fking!) This is what is between the bumper and the drivers side wheel And this is the navigator side, only one thing but its a biggy! So basically....no putting coolers in the wheel arches without a lot of moving other stuff. Assuming I move to properly race prepping this car I'll take that job on and see how the computers respond to removing a whole bunch of ADAS modules
    • So I prepped the car for another track day on Wednesday (will be interesting to see coolant temps post flushing out and the larger reservoir, with a forecast of 3-14 being 20o cooler than last time I took it out). Couple of things to mention; since I am just driving the car and not taking a support vehicle, I took the rear seats out and just loaded the back up Team Trackday style. Look at all that space! To cover off removing the rear seat....it is weird (note the hybrid is probably different because it wouldn't have folding rear seats) Basically, you remove the lower seat base, very similar to a r series but it is a clip that pulls forward to release the base rather than it being bolted down. Easy Then, you need to remove the side section of the rear seat on each side. There is a 14mm head nut at the bottom of the side piece, the it slides upwards off a hook at the top to release; you also need to unhook the seatbelt from the loop at the top. Then the centre piece is weird. You need to release/fold the seats forward with the tab in the boot on each side From there, there are 2,x12mm headed bolts holding the rear of each seat to the folding bracket, under the trim between the rear seat and the boot (4x christmas tree clips there, they suck). The seat is out but you can see where the bolts attach to the bracket
    • As discussed in the previous post, the bushes in the 110 needed replacing. I took this opportunity to replace the castor bushes, the front lower control arm, lower the car and get the alignment dialled in with new tyres. I took it down to Alignment Motorsports on the GC to get this work done and also get more out of the Shockworks as I felt like I wasn't getting the full use out of them.  To cut a very long story short, it ended up being the case the passenger side castor arm wouldn't accept the brand new bush as the sleeve had worn badly enough to the point you could push the new bush in by hand and completely through. Trying a pair of TRD bushes didn't fix the issue either (I had originally gone with Hardrace bushes). We needed to urgently source another castor arm, and thankfully this was sourced and the guys at the shop worked on my car until 7pm on a Saturday to get everything done. The car rides a lot nicer now with the suspension dialled in properly. Lowered the car a little as well to suit the lower profile front tyres, and just bring the car down generally. Eternally thankful for the guys down at the shop to get the car sorted, we both pulled big favours from our contacts to get it done on the Saturday.  Also plugged in the new Stedi foglights into the S15, and even from a quick test in the garage I'm keen to see how they look out on the road. I had some concerns about the length of the LED body and whether it'd fit in the foglight housing but it's fine.  I've got a small window coming up next month where I'll likely get a little paint work done on the 110 to remove the rear wing, add a boot wing and roof wing, get the side skirt fixed up and colour match the little panel on the tail lights so that I can install some badges that I've kept in storage. I'm also tempted to put in a new pair of headlights on the 110.  Until then, here's some more pictures from Easter this year.
    • I would put a fuel pressure gauge between the filter and the fuel rail, see if it's maintaining good fuel pressure at idle going up to the point when it stalls. Do you see any strange behavior in commanded fuel leading up to the point when it stalls? You might have to start going through the service manual and doing a long list of sensor tests if it's not the fuel system for whatever reason.
