nice to see lowndes win. I was spewing to see skaifey out of it so early.

and poor old seto! baird stuffed it just a fwe laps from the end in a good position. all in all bathurst still delivers. :P

So the big questions that rises out of this weekend is - is Skafie finished? I mean if you were going into the enduro season with a good shot of winning the championship would you want him as your other driver? I'm not sure I would. They were lucky to get away with his mistake at PI. I can see him being relegated next year to filling the field with a Glen Seaton or something rather than a pressure drive with a Tander etc.

Infact - will Skaife even be at HRT next year? If not who will get the seat? There were some damn good drives by less fancied people on Sunday.

Skaife will only be removed with a crowbar. Having said that his form slump has been pretty dramatic this year. What odds Davison getting the HRT drive?

Good work by the two exiled WPS drivers. Shame to see most of the roughies drop the ball at the end. The Bottle-O mob, #22 HRT, #17 (harsh penalty though) & 18 aswell. Courtney drove a blinder but SBR must be spewing about the fuel economy 888 got out of the same engines as they are running. Murphy was lucky his head didn't explode near the end.

Did anyone see the Porsches get airborn over the bumps at the end of conrod. Freaky sh!t.

Now get out there & check your Dunlops for delamination. :P

Skaife won't be going anywhere just yet, he's had some bad luck over the past 12-18mths in the same way that Mark Webber has bad luck - just wrong place at wrong time for majority of the cases.

Okay Kelly,,,Congrats to lowndes and his creapy mate,,,they won fair and square. You win and I lose. Nice beer though wasn't it!!!. Thanks for a great day,,,I enjoyed myself.

I'm a bit worried about Jimmies ankle biter though,,,after looking at lap times he's slower than frosty. Steven might be past his use by date.

I'll bet the lot of you Skaifey will pull the pin sooner than later. It looks like the car was suffering but my 2nd fav driver did make a little mistake.

Neil.

May be a bit harsh to pass judgement on the bloodnut as the car was a complete dog at Bathurst. Didn't do him any favours a PI either. But yes Frosty has pretty much toasted him all year.

Skaife made a little mistake? Was that the first or the second time he stuffed it into the wall?

Now how can I get my car to sound like Larrys? :)

it will be a sad day for me when skaifey is not racing top level tin tops in aus. I have followed and admired him since i was a kid. I watched him move from nissans, to holden in my teens, through to him pairing with lowndes in the late 90s at HRT and the both of them winning everything in sight. then to his continued success in the early 2000's after lowndes switched to ford. he sure has made a lot of enemies but I've always thought he was a great driver to watch with a great racing 'brain'. he also made some pretty sharp moves off the track too. He really was one of the first true 'professional' race drivers in aus to make a full career out of racing. as 20 years ago lots of the guys did top level tin tops and still had a day job. they couldn't all make a living from racing even if driving top level stuff. most people think he's a wanker but i've met him a couple of times and he seemed pretty nice and down to earth to me, and pretty smart and well spoken.

I'll miss you skaifey!

I agree, he's 1 of those blokes that everyone just loves to hate. Been following him since back in the GrpA Amaroo Park days when my dad first took me to the races back in our little green mini :P I'm glad he is heavily involved with HRT so that even when he does stop driving (hopefully he'll continue on at Bathurst with Seton for another 10yrs) he'll still be around the pits at each event.

Well im gonna have to bite my own words because Skaifey has announced his retirement from V8SC at the end of this season. Wonder if that means Davison will replace him (that will leave DJR up shit creek again).

AFAIK it has not been confirmed.

Davo may well end up at HRT/HSVDT but Courtney is onboard with DJR. Jim Beam have also re-signed. With new chassis coming out of 888 DJR should be looking better than they have in a long time.

WTF? nooo. end of another era. as of this year no more oran park and no more skaife in australian touring car racing. he's been racing and winning the thing since I was about 10 years old! fk it. I will have to get out to Oran Park to see him race there one last time. :/

    • Also, I logged some data from the ECU for each session (mostly oil pressures and various temps, but also speed, revs etc, can't believe I forgot accelerator position). The Ecutek data loads nicely to datazap, I got good data from sessions 2, 3 and 4: https://datazap.me/u/duncanhandleyhgeconsultingcomau/250813-wakefield-session-2?log=0&data=7 https://datazap.me/u/duncanhandleyhgeconsultingcomau/250813-wakefield-session-3?log=0&data=6 https://datazap.me/u/duncanhandleyhgeconsultingcomau/250813-wakefield-session-4?log=0&data=6 Each session is cut into 3 files but loaded together, you can change between them in the top left. As the test sessions are mostly about the car, not me, I basically start by checking the oil pressure (good, or at least consistent all day). These have an electrically controlled oil pump which targets 25psi(!) at low load and 50 at high. I'm running a much thicker oil than recommended by nissan (they said 0w20, I'm running 10w40) so its a little higher. The main thing is that it doesn't drop too far, eg in the long left hand fish hook, or under brakes so I know I'm not getting oil surge. Good start. Then Oil and Coolant temp, plus intercooler and intake temps, like this: Keeping in mind ambient was about 5o at session 2, I'd say the oil temp is good. The coolant temp as OK but a big worry for hot days (it was getting to 110 back in Feb when it was 35o) so I need to keep addressing that. The water to air intercooler is working totally backwards where we get 5o air in the intake, squish/warm it in the turbos (unknown temp) then run it through the intercoolers which are say 65o max in this case, then the result is 20o air into the engine......the day was too atypical to draw a conclusion on that I think, in the united states of freedom they do a lot of upsizing the intercooler and heat exchanger cores to get those temps down but they were OK this time. The other interesting (but not concerning) part for me was the turbo speed vs boost graph: I circled an example from the main straight. With the tune boost peaks at around 18psi but it deliberately drops to about 14psi at redline because the turbos are tiny - they choke at high revs and just create more heat than power if you run them hard all the way. But you can also see the turbo speed at the same time; it raises from about 180,000rpm to 210,000rpm which the boost falls....imagine the turbine speed if they held 18psi to redline. The wastegates are electrically controlled so there is a heap of logic about boost target, actual boost, delta etc etc but it all seems to work well
    • hahah when youtube subscribers are faster than my updates here. Yes some vid from the day is up, here:  Note that as with all track day videos it is boring watching after the bloopers at the start.  The off was a genuine surprise to me, I've literally done a thousand laps around the place and I've never had instability there; basically it rolled into oversteer, slipped, gripped and spat me out. On the way off I mowed down one of the instructor's cones and it sat there all day looking at me with accusing cone eyes as I drove past. 1:13:20 was my fastest lap, and it was in the second session, 3rd lap.  It (or me!) got slower throughout the day as it got hotter.
    • It sounds like you want what the Toyota Landcruisers have for their roof racks. Wanna know what you end up with? Rust holes in the roof, and water everywhere...
    • Discovered today that if I select reverse first and take my foot off the brake, then select drive, the drive indicator light works and so does the tiptronic gear indicator.
    • Ok so after much research and talking with knowledgeable people I've got my turbo conversion done and it's all running great other than 1 small issue.  Car has remained auto with the na auto and tcm, I've used a stagea ecu with. NIstune board and everything is great other than my gear selection on the dash. It illuminates park, reverse, neutral, 3rd and 2nd. But nothing drive or what gear your in when you pop it into tiptronic.  I'm sure there is maybe 1 wire in the ecu plug I need to move to rectify this. Does anyone here have any ideas?   Cheers guys
