Hi All,

I'm new to the forum... I've been considering buying a r32 gtr for a while now... I noticed 1 for sale on this forum... The link is below... It's going for $10,000... Why is it so cheap... the guy posted on the forum stated it would cost $1500 to repair... is this correct or would the entire engine need replacing to be safe? I had a quick look and a used engine goes for $5800... that's quite expensive just for the engine... is that how much they usually go for?

It's going so cheap because it is not drivable, despite what the ad says in regards to fixing it, budget at least $10K to get it going again... If your capable of doing a swap yourself it could work out cheap.

Keep in mind that they are getting quite old now.

thanks for the reply bro... geez 10K to get it up and running... i/m better off saving abit more and buying something in better condition...

it would probably depend on how cheap you can score an RB26 for..If you can get a decent one at a decent price, as well as being able to swap old engine for new all by yourself...then maybe its a good deal

yea, your probably better off saving and getting one thats all sweet under the hood.

as for wrecked ones, due to the age its probably better off been stripped for parts? can i get the gear box pleeeeassse. lol

Yeah i was thinking if the engine is gone, then how's the rest of the car... this i suppose would indicate how well the owner has taken care of the car...

If the car is a good example of a GTR it could very well be worth buying and fixing it up. Do some reading as the oil pump drive on the crank is a common issue with these motors, and really its not worth just replacing bearings and not fixing some of the other inherent issues. 10K could easily be reached with a decent motor build, but then it would be quite a strong motor after this.

Thats it, he caught the problem before it caused any damage, hence the low estmated price "if" you can fix yourself.

If it is clean & straight, I reckon it'd be a great candidate for an RB26/30 hybrid... but thats just me :(

WHy dont you look at ali turkos wide body gtr going for $15,000 you'd be crazy to throw that away its awesome.

When you look at any car they are not worth buying they all depreciate. Then you take into concideration the massive amount of mods most of us do to them and you can kick yourself when it comes to sale time!

Thankfully skylines hold some value (bar GTRS atm, especially R34s), atm some i.e R32s are appreciating as they are now, unable to be imported.. (year dependent)some of them anyway.

Another example AE86

My tip, buy the car I mentioned or buy the 10g car... wait until someone posts a offtap Rb25 or a crazy rb26 on the forums and buy that.. I think someone sold a real nice one for 6g a while back.. then u got everything u want!

id buy it, the last new R33 crank i bought from nissan locally was 1100 add another 1500 on remove re-fit and approx $500 on ancillaries and you would be laughing. 3000-3500 would see you cruising again.... IF it is as quiet as he reckons.

Really? I didn't realise these engines usually fail. I thought the rb26dett engines were meant to be bullet proof...

Sadly they aren't, but they can be reliable depending on how they are treated, looked after etc.

Your new to the forum, so do some reading/searching, lots of valuable info about :(

    • Reading through the engine service manual their advice is do a cylinder balance test. Unplug one injector at a time and see if the idle drops a consistent RPM. You can also do this using a Consult cable which is easier. They also call for unplugging the power transistor, then with the engine off and the fuel rail unhooked from the manifold verifying that you have good fuel flow (even injection, no dripping/leaks, etc) when you twist the CAS by hand. Also verify the spark by pulling the spark plugs and allowing the plugs to ground and turning the CAS by hand. I would also start doing the sensor checks and idle valve checks in service manual. Make sure the MAF tests reasonably, the intake air regulator is sane, etc. You may have to get new spark plugs.
    • This sounds very old of me, however since buying the Tiguan shit box, my view on shit boxes have changed.
    • I've looked up the parts number (41011AL501). It's around $700 OEM. Usually our Infiniti G35 here in Canada have interchangeable parts with my Stagea but the parts number are not the same. I have looked around and it seems the JDM 2005 V35 Skyline (which is the same as our G35) has the same caliper but I cannot confirm. And I can't find a repair kit. The inner brake pads drags on the rotor, seems to be rusty piston. Thanks for the info by the way
    • This coupled with 6-9 speed autos with ridiculously short gearing is why these modern shitbox cars always seem so fast off the line. If it wasn't for those things, Raptors would not seem fast. The problem we have is there is a driveability gap between a more gentle take off and a wheelspinning sideways launch. The difference between ankle flex required to achieve one and ankle flex required to achieve the other is about 0.5°.
    • Yeah I think I'm also with the opposite here. It's 'hard to keep up with traffic' because in the real world I'm accelerating with 15% throttle and they are pinning it. It feels like I'm being an overt dickhead at anything above 15% throttle, so the car sounds like I'm being an overt dickhead to keep up with/get ahead of traffic when I'm really just trying to drive with traffic. There would be no issue 'keeping up with traffic' if we used the same level of throttle input/aggression to drive around. People really do just drive around with their foot nearly pinned in econoboxes.
