Out Of Interest: What gives you the greatest thrill - buying your 1st car (and driving it) - or driving your present machine? What was/is your 1st car?

OK I'll start first. My first car was a Datsun 1600 & it gave me the greatest thrill to stick a Weber on it with Chrome wheels...

Out Of Interest: What gives you the greatest thrill - buying your 1st car (and driving it) - or driving your present machine? What was/is your 1st car?

OK I'll start first. My first car was a Datsun 1600 & it gave me the greatest thrill to stick a Weber on it with Chrome wheels...

my first car was a supra 1j was soo fun till i hit that wall :D

My first ride was a Volkswagen Type 3 Fastback, followed by a VK, then VL Commodore. My present R33 gives me the biggest thrill especially being my first turbo performance car but I'll never forget the sense of freedom and independence of having my first car. It was very economical too so even though I was still in high school driving around for hours was easy to do. Of course this was also when petrol was slightly more expensive than tap water.

R33 was mine and with the police, accidents, parking tickets and insurance premiums i highly regard it to be the worst time of my life.

on the upper side, i had my share of small minded chicks whom were impressed by guys in nice cars.

my first car never passed a roadworthy and ended up in a demo derby. which was hella fun. it was an old VB commodore, which was followed by a VC commie that met the same fate. after that came an XD panel van hand painted (with a brush) in "wheelie bin green". that ended up on a tow truck before it was finished. my first car with NUMBER PLATES was an XG panel van. i drove that for a few years and, while it was cool to sleep in the back on road trips and was great for carrying my drum kit around, i never really got that thrill out of it that i wanted. after being in a few shunts and bumps and one rather high speed collision that left a perfect imprint of a mitsubishi mirage in the side of it, i lost all love for it and lent it to a mate with a suspended licence. it never came back... when i took an r33 for a test drive at the importer was when i really got my first rush of awesomeness. it doesn't even have a turbo, but being my first car with fuel injection, let alone a decent rev range, i fell in love and bought it. the only reason i'm selling it now is to upgrade to bigger and better things... like whomping turbos and the like :D

i started with a quality machine which began my love affair with the turbo nissan, i baught my next door neighbours e.t turbo n12 pulsar for 800bux, the problems, the police, the never forgoten

young and reckless days, i still miss my n12

First car: V8 One tonne WB ute. <-- Great car, got me places without any hassle.. always pulled hard.

Second car: R33 Nissan Skyline <-- First and only turbo car in the family (all are v8s, 300c srt8, 1968 fastback mustang, Ford XE 351 clev, V8 ute) The best thing about it? When the turbo kicks in!! =)

My first car was an utter piece of shit manual Galant 1600 - Poo green with rust holes the size of fists around the petrol tank. I remember stealing it from my mums driveway before i was 16 and licensed and thrashing the shit out of it up Norton Summit road one night. Scared myself stupid but boy was it fun.

I had the best times with that car. Going down the surf every weekend in it, pouring chemiweld in the head when it cracked...snapping the rear wheel off the axle when i lost it in the rain going around a really slow corner - tyres were bald at the time i think. It went pretty hard for a 1600 , much harder than a mates gemini, datto 1600 and corolla that we had in the surf group at the time, and the shitty old stereo it had used to crank hard, lol, good times.

Impossible to compare that to what i have now but its always good to reminisce.

First car was a restored 1972 VW 1600 Superbug. Was a good first car but everytime it rained i drove down to the local industrial area and did 10,000rpm burnouts (no rev limiter) which eventually killed the poor thing.

Second car was a 92 Ford Falcon GLI (LPG). This was the first car i modded, simple sports exhaust and 12 slotters all round. As i was an apprentice it was hell cheap to run. At the time LPG was 25c a litre!!!!

Third car was a 94 Ford Falcon (EF shape) This time the modification bug had truly bitten:

Lumpy cam,cam gear,Crow valve springs,Pacemaker Competition extractors, straight through 2.5inch exhaust,BA intake,XR ECU,XR fuel reg,Superlow King springs with KYB shocks all round,DBA slotted rotors all round,17s,HID kit ect ect

I wish i still had that car, with fuel prices the way they are i would have put LPG in it.

Fourth car (current), the R33, looked for ages for the right one. Found it in Melbourne so i flew down and drove it back. When it was in my garage i couldn't believe i had just bought it. It has certainly change alot since i bought it nearly 2 years ago now.

Fifth car (current), 98 Proton Persona this car i use everyday for work and driving around. Its cheap to run and maintain.

First car was a Ford KC Meteor... still remember the day I drove that for the first time by myself, cruising down the road with the music cranking. Putting it into reverse, and then back into first and just dumping the clutch... haha. Good times...

Then I had a VN Commodore, cost me $500 & thrashed that every weekend pretty much, all it was good for really haha. Sold that for $1700 was a good buy that car. :( Only replaced the brake pads and the radiator. Was still a fairly clean car.

Then I got my Z31 300zx... god I miss that car, I wish I could drive it for just one more day. :( Many headturns in that thing, the fact it was a single muffler exhaust, buy boy did it sound nice. And the IRS, gave the rear end an absolute dumping cos of the f**ked shocks. haha... Miss the targa roof the most though... Going through the hills with it off was beautiful. Got defected...

Dad bought me a 85' Volvo 240, that was my punishment for my stupidity when driving lol...

Then when my mate bought a 180sx, I decided I was gonna go buy a decent car... hence the Cefiro, I bought that to get away from the police for a while, otherwise I would of bought something more sportier. Love the RB sound, and dont know if I could settle for any other engine now. Still, got defected anyway.

Back to the Volvo again, over the period ive had it, almost a year now... its not so bad, it gets me to work and thats basically all it needs to do.

Ceffy is almost back on the road though. :)

First car was a 1980 ford escort. Awesome first car. It taught me how to drive and fix stuff when it breaks. I think I'm better driver now for thrashing that thing around.

Since then I've had an R31 coupe and now a 32 that I use for track, and V8 aussie cars for daily driving. Good combo.

first car was a vl with a ceased engine, swaped in an rb30 from r31 wreck and had 101 problems. loved it but doesnt compare now.

but it prob top of my long list of cars owned.

1. 32 gtr

2. First r33 gtst

3. current r33 gtst

4. vl commo

then the rubbish after, vr commo, 2 pulsars, astina

An N15 1.6L Auto Poosar!

That thing was freaking awesome! Oversteered easier than my 32!

That car has seen more sh*t than cars twice its age..

Abused the living daylights out of the poor thing!..

Tought me how to drive well aggressively.

Had big plans for the little thing. Independet rear end, disk rears brakes, coilovers, SR16VE stroked to a 2L. But decided to pump the money into my 32.

Somtimes I wish i kept it and spent the money on that would of been an awesome ride and very diffrent..

9 vl commodores, a vt commodore, 4 skylines, a mitzi pajero, nissan primera TE 4wd turbo, mitzi zr4, ford telstar with a cossie motor in it, but best of all was my first vehcial, a 1985 single cab well side toyota hilux in red with a ford nine inch in the rear, custom driveshaft, 5 speed box, rb30 block, rb25de head with a great dirty tractor turbo bolted to it.

In 1990 I got a 1977 Datsun 280 Z Black, a very sweet car. I was up in the wilshire area of LA and this A_ _ stole my boss ride. I only had the car 6 months. In those days a car that cost $2800 was not insured.

First car was an 1956 850cc 4cyl Austin A3, (250quid drive away) commonly known as A30 but we thought there was no room for a nought so A3 it was. The buzz was......FREEDOM!

A total oil burning rust bucket. That car got fitted with a bored & balanced Morris 1000 motor, dropped straight in, nothing else done & went everywhere. Max indicated velocity was 70mph & was regularly wound off the clock...............corners were exciting, especially if you were pacing a lowered Morry 1000 or a VW bug...............freedom.

Cheers GW

X2 but mine was a R34. Although my first true car was a U12 Pintara that belonged to my mum. I remember thinking the car was so good..why would anyone want anything more??..

    • Hey all  im wondering if you can help me please I have put a rb20 box in my r34 gtt as my auto packed up and a friend had a spare box I know it’s not ideal but it will get me up and running for now. we have done the conversation and everything is working great but my Speedo we got a s13 speed sensor but my Speedo reads double now and I bought a speed converter but still not having any luck.  so I thought I’ll reach out and pick your brains  any help would be appreciated please as I wanna drive my car again
    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
