I don't class a minute or two with a flat file as "machining", it's not like I used the lathe or the mill or even anything electrically powered. Quicker and easier than cleaning your teeth. If someone told me that they weren't capable of that simple a filing job, then I sure as helll wouldn't trust them to bolt on a set of brand new rotors, pads, callipers and braided lines.

Yeh that looks after the pads, but what about 343mm rotors that becaome 340mm with the correct hat offset. No drama if you can do it or can get it done....but the drama of payign people to do this stuff adds to the cost of a compromised solution, i say compromised as it gets towards a full kit price. ... i am just making excuses for wanting a straight up bolt on guaranteed to work well solution

I know the sizes i want, front 17 x 8.5 +30, though i am not sure how they work with brake calipers ?!?!?!?

The wheel pictured is 17x8.5 +40 offset which just clears the custom coilover struts on the inside.

I guess I am the engineer and tester (ie; guinea pig) for what eventually will be an off the shelf solution. Complete package, BO + GTW for half the price. But it needs field (ie; track) testing to prove the results, temperatures, G forces, braking distances etc etc. When I break (no pun intended) down the "Chinese" kits I find that the callipers are worth next to nothing, which confirms the physical observations that tells me they are compromised in design, manufacture and the hardware supplied. Their lifespan is questionable and servicing comparatively costly and sometimes impossible due to long term unavailability of parts. Compared to what is a very decent standard calliper, they have no real advantages and lots of disadvantages. Except bling of course.

Cheers

Gary

Yeah, not impressed about the dollar! The guy I was ordering through has not responded for a week... which has cost me another few hundred. Not happy Jan.

The price landed was $2050 US for the 332mm kit. The 355mm kit was $2700 US landed.

I'm just considering a few options at the moment, but I think I'm just going to get the stoptechs through another supplier. I'm also in some talks with another guy about piecing together a custom 4 pot Brembo monoblock kit, so we'll see what works out as the better kit.

Just thought I'd give an update.

I ended up going with my first choice of brakes, which was CSC. I'd always said that was the setup I was going to go with once I decided to upgrade, and thanks to a lot of help from Stuart at Benson Motorsport (t01-100 on here) I picked these up last night.

So now the brake setup is CSC 4 pots with 343mm discs, 33 GT-R rear brembo calipers, and a BM44 Master Cylinder with the ABS blanked out, set up for use with no booster. Should be plenty for my lil' old 180SX :(

I've not heard a bad thing about them thus far, so I'm glad I went this way. I've heard really good things about the Stoptechs too, but I like the local support of the Bmax/CSC's and supporting an Aussie brand. And if they're good enough to pull JFK's car up, then I'm sure it'll be heaps for mine

What didn't Matt like about his?

Same thing I've heard about Stoptechs, in the rare cases I've seen that people haven't been happy with them. Perhaps a set up issue? Loose wheel bearing? Who knows, but hopefully I don't have the same issue!

  • 2 weeks later...

noice! GTRJason on here has them on his 32 GTR. that thing has some serious power, (well over 400awkw) and dog box etc and the times I've been in it it really pulled up nicely. he has been able to run 17s with them too.

Ok, so now we just have to find a nice 1 pce std sized rear rotor that uses curved vanes and is slotted/fish hooks etc.

Stoptech dont make OE replacement rear rotors, Endless and Project U are all straght vane. DBA and RDA are shit! I think i may just end up getting some Endless rears unless someone knows the part number for the AP rotors. I know they exist, but nobody lists them. I suspect that perhaps they are N1 diameter so ???

Yeah, I spoke with BB last year about them and he gave them a really good review. They're on some really quick cars and have local support, so I'm really happy about picking them up.

Troy: Are you sure mate? Aren't 300ZX rears the same size as yours? I'm getting a price on CSC rear discs as well, not sure if they're curved vane or not though.

    • There's restrictor pills in the stock boost control hoses. That's how they set the amount that was bled off and hence the "high" boost setting. The usual mod in the day was to remove it and send the "high" boost setting up to about 14 psi.
    • Thanks Duncan, that's the best info I've read. Furthermore after learning about the PCM programming side controlling the factory boost solenoid, the purpose of the solenoid is to "bleed" boost when pin 25 is earthed, thus allowing spring pressure in the wastegate actuator to overcome diaphragm boost pressure, thus closing or reducing the position of the wastegate flap creating more boost as the turbo is able to spin faster. It's pretty cool to see a designated Pill to do exactly this, would have liked to have seen it with a tiny filter over the end for those moments in vacuum.  The constant bleed pill has now been removed completely from the system and solenoid boost control has been restored once again.   Case closed 😂
    • The wideband reading is meaningless if it's not running. Why are you using shitty old sidefeeds on any engine, let alone a Neo? What manifold and fuel rail are you using to achieve that? Beyond that, can't help you with AEM stuff as I've never been their ECU/CAS combo.
    • Manual boost controllers (where a little of the boost was bled off) were quite common back in the day, because they were cheap and easy. Generally they had a manual adjustment screw rather than being fixed like yours. Down side is they always bleed boost, not just when you want them to so an electronic boost controller that uses a solenoid will have less lag.
    • Hello , im new here and i have A31 home build  RB25det neo stock eng / turbo  aem ems 2 blue connector  aem 3.5 map aem cas disk aem wideband connected to ecu  355 lph pump 550 nismo yellow injectors side feed aftermarket regulator  and won’t start with base aem tuner basic tune eventually flipped cas 180 degree so it triggers on correct stroke not in exhaust cycle  Now it won’t start Wideband reads 10 and 11 at lowest fuel setting  and will share calibrations soon for aem tuner i think something is wrong in aem tuner    please if you have any information, am very grateful
