Exhaust threads seem to be in fashion at the moment so ill throw in this query.

What do people usually run on a street car making 800+HP? (btw not implying i expect it to make legal volume!)

I was thinking i'd benefit from a 4inch system, yet I have looked at all the Jap systems on most of the popular websites, and havent found anything larger than 3.5inch.

The question would then be, will an unrestrictive 3.5inch system hold back power potential?

The setup in question is a single turbo RB28.

Looking at the recent custom exhaust thread, custom could be the way to go, but for simplicity id rather a system i can just bolt in. I have heard of a 4inch HKS system, but cant find any details. Im aware that its gonna be noisy.

thanks for any help

HEY mate note what turbo set up you are running ,but im running twin turbo on 30/25 .and was running single 4 ich ,and then went for a custom twin 3 inch off dumps right through and it made a tiny bit more power ,but im only running 720 rwhp at the moment ..

Just to clarify, 800 flywheel HP. so looking at the over-600hp at the wheels range.

turbo is rated at 850HP.

400kw, a twin 3inch system sounds like a lot of flow! How loud is your setup, any muffled sections or is it a race setup?

with the 4 inch system ,it was loud and its dronned really bad ,but that was with no muffles just a rear cannon, with the twin 3 inch i have 6 hotdogs in it ,3 each side and 2 cannon out the back its not as loud ,as the 4 inch ,buts still loud ,but it doesnt dronn no where near as the 4 inch ...i would look around at 3.5 inch system .

a well built custom 3.5" or 4" would do the trick i'd imagine.. after seeing seans exhaust im quite tempted to use those magnaflow mufflers as they look to be of good quality

just make sure you use a good quality cat.. im a big fan of the catco and metalcat cat's with 5" round body they flow really well.

thanks for the recommendations, it seems 4inch is the go.

the last remaining question is are there any nice off the shelf 4 inch systems? As mentioned i have heard of an HKS 4inch system, but i cant find it, or any other 4inchers available, only 3.5's.

cheers!

Trust/Greddy have a Power Evolution II exhaust which is 94mm so close enough to 4". I am pretty sure Twoogle had one (ask Paul). I have one on my R33 GTR. Comes with a cat replacement pipe, check with Croydan Racing Dev. that is where I got mine from, they were clearance stock.

little man, i run a 3.5 inch dump with a 3 inch system with i muffler and a resonator muffler, its quiet.

Gate is vented externally. So far on pump fuel through a powerglide its made 630rwhp

and so far isn't a prob.

cheers

LOL no shit, is this bluebird/VLT Darren??! I havent been called that in years! HAHA

Just for interests sake, a twin 3" exhaust would have the same cross sectional area as a single 4 1/4" exhaust so its not actually as wild as it sounds. Depending of course on how wild you think 4 1/4" is ;)

    • Is the panel filter one that is oiled? Have you ever cleaned or touched the AFM?
    • So.... the K&N air box thingo was too big, ended up gifting it to a mate, well, by gifting it he actually supplied food and beer at the pub,  which was nice, as it will not sit on a shelf in the garage for the next 10 years I did trim up some of the existing stuff to neaten it all up and gave it some wrinkle paint, unfortunately it currently has a used and abused mish mash of different types of hose clamps, 4 big fat T bolt type (shit), and a few normal clamps of vairing sizes and brands, but..... only until the 6 constant tension black worm clamps that I ordered from EFI solutions turn up next week Currently the current hose clamps are triggering me hard, LOL Is this the final version, probably not, I really want just 2 silicone pieces, a straight bit of silicone from the filter to the MAF is easy and will happen as soon as I head into Just Jap tomorrow, the problematic part is a 30° silicone bend from the MAF to the TB that I can connect the engine breather from the head, I found that there are bulk head fittings for boat bilge pumps that should work, but until I can get a 30° silicone bend the alloy pipe, and the 11ty thousand hose clamps, are there for the foreseeable future 4 hose clamps are golden, 6 are grudgingly acceptable, the 8 currently holding it all together is just taking the piss    I've also ordered 60 more retaining wall blocks for the front yard, I mis-gonculated the height that was required to get above the base of the Photinia's (red robin's) that are the hedge behind the front fence, currently it is 2 blocks high, and about 1/2 a block short, so going 3 blocks high will be above the base of the red robin's, and allow some room for mulch
    • It is the stock air box with the panel filter. Everything else is stock except the exhaust at this point, as I also went back to the cleaned 270cc injectors. I will check the RPM when the IACV is unplugged and report back.
    • As MBS suggested if this is happening when the engine is cold you're going to want to remove the intake air regulator and verify resistance + that the shutter is physically opening and closing. At -20C should be fully open, 20C half open, over 60C fully closed. At 20C should be 70-80 ohms. For AAC valve testing using a Consult cable see if you can raise and lower the idle by commanding more or less AAC duty cycle. Hopefully it's pretty linear as well, shouldn't be like 30% AAC valve is barely idling and 40% is 1500 rpm.
