I'd have to say Artist...

There is something really sweet about being able to time the lights and read the traffic so you just zip right by the idiots that try and challenge you at every set... ...I drive up and down Princess Rd every day and I would have to say I get at least one a day eyeing me off and wanting a go if they're beside me... ...So I let them blast of and when they're sitting at the next set when the lights go green... ...I blast by in 2nd doing 60...

And usually if you do that you'll make it to the next set just as they turn yellow and "Hero" will have to drop anchor again... :(

yeah i was goin down princess hwy towards fountain gate in my Stagea. and this idiot on p's sat behind me for a bit then pulled up next to me eyeing of my car.

now he had a VE SS sedan. so he dropped it into a lower gear and held it and just reved it and then slowed down, eggin me on to drag, i know for a fact i have no chance against that 6.0ltr v8.

next 3 sets of lights was like watching some one pour there fuel down the drain. he would launch it hard till about 60kph then realise im not racing and slow down, he did that twice. 3rd run i said to my miss's hopfully there is a cop over the hill, i took of a little hard holding it at 3k,rpm just sitting on boost and this moron gives it to it hard as and flies past me and doesnt stop till about 100+kph while i cruise to 80.

but he felt good about himself while he was getting a reach around from his mate in the passenger seat

while i just shook my head, if he got pulled up we would complain that the cops are targeting P platers and young drivers , perfect example why

most of the time I drive an automatic Toyota Yaris, so this problem you have doesn't affect me..

lol

I must admit I was actually a bit of a hoon when I drove a 1.6L auto Pulsar. 50fwkw of furrrrrrrrrrrrrry! But I turbo'ed the car and something changed, I didn't feel the need to prove myself to anyone anymore. And I drive the Skyline like a nanna. Every man and his dog tries to race it, but I'm happy for them to boot off from the lights and get pulled up down the road, while I nanna drive past them at the speed limit. I get some satisfaction out of it. Both my cars are too valuable to me to risk, as are my passengers if I'm carrying any at the time.

I must admit I have trouble resisting taunts from co-workers or friends to bag them up, but it's a pretty rare occurrence. And then I go back to my nanna driving :merli: There's a time and place for everything.

I think it's a phase that quite a lot of us grow out of (or I'd like to think so.)

  • 1 month later...

Do all of you live in hoon central?

I have only had my skyline for about 18 months and in that time i have only had three people want to have a go from the lights, a ba xr6t, an s15 and a cobra replica, lost to the cobra, kept up with the xr6t and beat the s15.

from what every one has said so far that puts me in the hoon class because you all sound like perfect angels.

Like the tuner at x-speed when he got his stockish r32 gtr....first night lost a drag race and then had to build a twin t04z rb26; yep a twin t04z rb26. ND4SPD was the number plates.

I dont see any point of looking at it like that, no matter how fast you are there will always be some one faster than you, an i also forgot the first beat i had in the 33, a blown vx r8, absolutely blitzed me, but i also know that when it comes down to money spent, i have a lot to spend to catch up.

best ever wannabe drag story was a commodore. bloke wanted to drag off at the lights. i smiled at him. lights went green, he planted it and took off while i just drove normally. then the copper that was sitting behind him threw on the red and blues and pulled him over. never laughed so hard!

depends if its a sportivo or not

:P

3 weeks ago i had a 35-40y.o with his wife n kids in the car - A TARAGO!!!, he was reving the shit out of it as he pulled up to me at a set of lights in the city. Lights go green and i stayed still, he spun the tyres (of wot that van could) and i took off slowly. I got up to the next set of lights and gave him an earful cos i thought, your in a van, you have ya missus and worst of all you had 2 kids in the back and your trying to take me on

A complete idiot!!!

Tarago..... Didn't think these things could wheelspin. Maybe he had feet on both pedals.

hmmm this is how i lost my licence 3 weeks ago lol, after the vic street scene dyno day at hp-f dandy, pulling out to my suprise a silver gtst behind me,had to be the hero i was and give him a run, then as i backed off to the speed limit he kept going, and woop woop undercover ve ss on princess highway got me doing 122 in a 80 zone 3k's more and it would of been my car on a tow truck, thats my story......5 months and one week to go lol

In my experience the amount of hoon-ness at the lights is inversely proportional to age and HP.

It's funny, after I got my GTR, I have had no challenges at the lights. The only time I speed off from the lights is if I'm in the left lane that ends shortly, and I know it will be a pain (as well as slow the whole lane down) if I try to squeeze my way into traffic when everyone else catches up.

I actually had challenges when I was driving my old car, which was a bloody Magna for gods' sakes. About the only thing it had in terms of performance parts was an ugly stock spoiler that did nothing for downforce but increased drag and weight. Just goes to show some of these ricers with their Excels/Lancers are desperate to show their *superiority* at any opportunity.

:P Painful. Princes Hwy is a trap, though.

had some chump try and race me in his skyline. He went to the local petrol station to fill up, so I pulled in to the next street, got out of my truck, unhooked the load that i was delivering to Shell and waited. Luckily for me, when this guy got out, the lights were red - so i pulled out of the street, and went along side him. He started reving his engine. I started reving mine. Lights go green, and he stalls!!!!! So I start off, and then i see him pulling up quickly along side me. I drop it down a gear and gun it - we are now neck and neck. Turn on to the freeway. Hitting 130....140....150.....160.....

by now he is getting scared....and i do the unthinkable....handbrake and turn the wheel, and let the truck roll over. Before it hits the road, i jump out, take out my replica mp5 and pull the trigger at the skyline. He ducks and tries to weave, but I land on his bonnet. I break the windscreen with my head, and put a barrage of bullets into the car. After the car came to a stop, I got off it, and jumped over the bridge and onto the speed boat that was waiting for me.

Now I am hiding out in Tijuana. If only he didnt flip the bird at the start, none of that would have happened.

here is a pic of my truck before our incident:

^ priceless, thanks for making my night.

+1 for the ridiculous geelong commodore drivers.. not sure what they are thinking, for example

in my barina, yes barina, with the beats on loud n the sub hitting hard (i voted ricer so dont worry, i know). Had some old commo pull up at the lights, hear it n start reving. big wheel spin n shot off, same at the next lights except this time he wanted me to try, not sure if he thought loud music meant fast car or what... hopefully he got pulled over somewhere down the track.

Dont right yourelf off so quick against the VE SS. I did alright against one and all i got is cooler and exhaust and the car isnt running the best at the moment. I suppose this puts me in the hoon catagory hey. I suppose i should have just done what u did but sometimes its just too tempting.

i feel I am a granny 98% of the time... have a few stories, had the occasional good drag at 3am on a friday night.. but Im not stupid...

The thing that pisses me off more then anything is stuff like this:

Going back to my gf's place tonight in her '89 charade, she's driving, bout to turn onto the monash freeway at the chaddy onramp, have our new puppy in the car, bout 9pm, just enjoying the cool change and talking.

Get this douchebag rock up next to us in this sh*t box integra and stops so fast that his and his ratty thing he called a female head's fly forward with his awsome $80 sony explode sub going nuts....

lights go green, we drive off normally, he didnt see they went green... absolutely tried fanging to catchup to us...redlining... just narrowlly cut us off as his lane was ending and slowly speeds off...

guess he feels like a big man infront of his whor, beeting a lady driving, doing the speed limit.

a 89 charade??? With a top speed of like what? 150? What is it with those idiots such as that integra fag that you encountered that makes them feel like they have to race anything they drive next to?? Except when they KNOW they don't stand a chance, like say you were driving your R33 bet he wouldn't have done shit then. But it seems like all you do is move up an idiocy level, now instead of integras you get WRX's, Supra's, certian Silvia's, etc Reminds me of those type of people who i saw today at Autobarn some tard came in wanting to buy a muffler and you know what his first question was? "Will it make my car louder?" It was funny cause you know everyone wanted to go "Are you an idiot?" but they were being all "professional" and explaining that he should change they entire system to get some real sound improvement, I couldn't stand working with people like that i'd just want to take a 2x4 and whack it over their heads telling them NO ONE likes Cannons

Oh just curious what puppy did you get?

Driver, but with momentary lapses of reason when playing in the twisties, you know, doing the speed limit of course. MMMMM, might have to do the putty or bell line this weekend.

Yes, exactly right, they dont try... or if they do i cant even tell :P  let them get the fart cannons and attract the cops away from us... friggin donate a megaphone and tell them to shove it right up their exhaust pipe , then whens theres a subtly modified skyline sitting next to a commo with chrome 20's on the front and stockies on the back the cops will know which one to pick...

oh and heres the puppy :D

Name is pip, 13 weeks old, pomerainian but in a kelpy brown colour! very unusual..  if you want good looking girls to stop you in the street or at the beach I highly recommend :)

Best story so far:

we go to the beach, put him down, turn around to get a drink next thing I see this fluffy thing flying off in the distance towards a stunning girl tanning, goes right up to her and starts licking her face, I run up, really appologetic, she bursts out laughing and starts talking to me about him... Good on ya pip!

    • Well, I can recommend the partial AV system translation CD I ordered from Car Audio Workshop in NZ. Whilst it didn't address the date issue, it has conveniently translated on-screen menu items into English, and now allows the GPS-received time to be offset in hours rather than minutes, so I can display Eastern Australian time accurately ( and bump it by another hour when daylight savings starts ).
    • Yuh, if it's 45°C outside, my car is driving in it.
    • I'd be curious to hear more. Otherwise, have you driven a modern x-trail? I wonder how it compares. Here in Australia they are/were popular for rentals and fleet vehicles. I have been in some and my impression was they are bad. But, this may have been very different in the 2000s at a good trim level. Twenty years is plenty of time to make the model worse. I do very much agree with the 2 silver cars in the garage approach. But, not driving because it's too hot would not leave a lot of time in the year for many Australians. I don't think you need to worry too much unless the car has actual issues with overheating.
    • Back again. I returned to Japan in Jul/Aug to spend time with the car on my birthday and remind myself what all the sacrifice and compromise is for. It happened to line up with the monthly morning meet in Okutama, which I have been wanting to go to for a long time. It's a unique event at a unique spot with really rare, interesting, and quirky cars. It's where all the oldheads and OGs gather. The nighttime scene at DKF certainly has its place and should be experienced if you're into cars, but there's too much bad attention and negativity around it now. IMO the better time is Sunday morning at DKF or Okutama; it's more chill and relaxed. I'm glad I was finally able to go, but not sure it's worth the drive from all the way from Nagoya immediately the day before, unless I was already staying in Tokyo for the days right before the meet, because you have to wake up quite early to make it in time. Funnily enough though I didn't drive the car all that much this trip because it was just too damn hot. While there were zero issues and running temps were nominal and the A/C was strong, RBs already run crazy hot as it is. Sure, it took it all like a champ but something about driving these cars in the ridiculous heat/humidity bothers me and makes me feel like I'm asking too much of it. I'm just me being weird and treating the car like a living thing with feelings; I'm mechanically sympathetic to a fault. Instead I was mainly driving something else around - a KX4(silver) 2001 X-Trail GT, that I acquired in May. There's a few different flavors to choose from with Xs, but visually it's the Nissan version of the Honda CR-V. Mechanically it's a whole different story as this, being the top-trim GT, has an SR20VET mated to a four-speed auto and full-time AWD! It was a very affordable buy in exceptional condition inside and out, with very low mileage...only 48k kms. Most likely it was owned by an older person who kept it garaged and well-maintained, so I'm really happy with how it all worked out. It literally needs zero attention at the moment, albeit except for some minor visual touch-ups. I wanted something quirky, interesting, and practical and for sure it handily delivers on all three of those aspects. I was immediately able to utilize the cargo and passenger capacity to its full extent. It's a lot of fun to drive and is quite punchy through 1st and 2nd. It's very unassuming -in the twisty bits it's a lot more composed than one would think at a glance- and it'll be even better once I get better tires on it(yes, it's an SUV but still a little boat-y for my liking). So...now I have two golden-era Nissans in silver. One sports car and one that does everything else; the perfect two-car solution I think👍 The rest of the trip...I was able to turn my stressed brain off and enjoy it, although I didn't quite get to do as much as I thought. I did some interesting things, met some interesting people, and happened into some interesting situations however, that's all for another post though only if people really want to know. Project-wise, I went back to Mine's again to discuss more plans and am hoping to wrap that up real soon; keep watching this space if that interests you. Additionally, while working in the tormenting sweatbox that is the warehouse, I was able to organize most of the myriad of parts that my friend is storing for me along with the cars, and the 34 has a nice little spot carved out for it: And since it can get so stupid hot in there, that made it all the more easy -after I was standing there looking at the car and said 'f**k it'- to finally remove all the damn gauges that have mostly been an eyesore all this time. Huzzah. The heat basically makes the adhesive backing on the gauge mounts more pliable to work with, so it was far less stressful getting this done. I didn't fully clean it up or chase the wiring though; that will happen once I have the car in closer possession. Another major reason to remove all that stuff is to give people less reasons to get in my car and steal s**t while it's being exported/imported when/if the time comes, which leads us to my next point... ...and that is even though it's time in Japan is technically almost up since it's a November car and the X would be coming in March, I'm still not entirely sure where my life and career is headed; I don't really know what the future looks like and where I'm going to end up. I feel there's a great deal of uncertainty with me and as a result of that, it feels like I'm at a crossroads moreso now than any point in my life thus far and there are some choices I need to make. Yes, I've had some years to consider things and prepare myself, however too much has happened in that time to maintain confidence and everything feels so up in the air; tenuous one might say. Simply put, there's just too much nonsense going on right now from multiple vectors. Admittedly, I'm struggling to stay in the game and keep my eyes on the prize. So much so in fact, that very recently I came the closest I ever have before to calling it quits outright; selling everything and moving on and not looking back. The astute among you will pick up on key subtext within this paragraph. In the meantime I've still managed to slowly acquire some final bits for the car, but it feels nice knowing there's not much left to get and I'm almost across that finish line; I have almost everything I'll ever want for my interpretation and expression on what it is I think an R34 should be. 'til later.
    • Thanks for that, hadn’t used my brain enough to think about that.
