wondering if i should try e85 on my new engine build. running a fully built rb25 with cams and all the other goodies needed, running a turbonetics gtk550 so its slightly larger then a gt35, will prob run about 24-27psi. any idea what power i might beable to hit?

Got this email recently from a well known magazine feature writer about his engine (SR20) and the switch from premium to E85.

Got it tuned it last night. On 19psi power went from 289kW to 311. In the end we turned it up to 24psi but the injectors maxed out and exhaust housing on the turbo was starting to choke. However it made 342kW and the increase was from the word go, not just top end. The car wheel spun on the dyno for the first time ever, it’s very aggressive!

Went for a drive with him a few Fridays ago, that car is an absolute animal!!!! For its setup, that thing is incredibly fast, 135mph with a GT3037?

Also Adam at JEM has E85 in a massive drum. $1.50L

Not sure if it was mentioned or not but the V8 Supercars are switching to E85 for next years championship should prove some interesting results and possibly even more demand for the bogan crowd (we all know there is a lot of them, some don't even know it...) which means import drivers might also benefit. Interesting article in the Current CAMS magazine too that the fire extinguishers will not need to be upgraded as dry chemical powder and foam are fine.

so ant, after your testing do you recon i'd be able to switch between the 85 and 98 regularaly if i have a pc and datalogit?

and will i have to change the fuel filter every time?

yeah piece of piss. just load the new map when you stop at the bowser, make sure your tank is as empty as it can get.. then load up the map upload it to your ecu.. fill up and go!

sweet... where can i cag datalogit?

hey mate sorry for the late reply.. but i been at the nats.. probly pissin ppl off more then anything but having a damn good time as well

ii will

do a search on google for datalogit, the joint is in NZ and they do actually send out your datalogit afr you pay for it in a pretty reasonable time frame, ppl have reported that the product has been recieved in the mail before any kind of confirmation of payment or order completion at all. So pay your money and the unit will arrive quicker then expected.

Cheers

    • Did you pay with a credit card? I'd be putting a charge back through then finding a new sparky to sort it out.
    • If you mean the alarm immobiliser; theyre internal to the alarm itself which makes that difficult; I couldnt even see where he put it; its not in the same place as last time; but with all black wiring it might be very challenging to trace  I had someone turn the key for me as I know it only primes for a couple of seconds As my post above; I am getting no voltage to the pump at all; but I am testing continuity of the power line (SB) from the pump plug to the relay fine. As well as the negative from the pump plug to a 12V constant.    Yeah; he blammed the no start on a bad battery; said I needed to get a new battery and it'll start. Turns out the battery drained because the tail lights had been on for half the day during the install (the rubber cushion on the brake switch gave out while he was testing it as I have a picture of the car from that morning with the tail lights off..i've replaced that). The battery was turning over the engine just fine for a long time; but got low since lights were draining it so it was too low to test a start after he finished. I bought a new one on his advice...$250 wasted. My original battery charged up just fine and is healthy.    It was running perfectly fine when I messed up the old alarm (programmed out the remotes). He couldnt start it after removing the old alarm; my assumption is that when he unhooked it; he didnt bridge the circuit back when trying to start it. Its always been perfectly fine. The ECU swap and pump were 2 years ago. It's never missed a beat in that time.
    • This is a big issue for me without the diff. I just have zero drive from the passenger side when drivers side has no traction. Bec's parents place has a crazy steep driveway with odd camber and I have never been able to get up. My bro-in-law's 130i with an (unknown brand) LSD gets up fine as does their dad's Hiace. My car stays at the bottom. We have other odd camber roads around here as we're elevated a bit and if it's raining I can get totally stuck around some hairpins.
    • Yeah, I am super excited for this.
    • Was the car running before he touched the car?
