hi guys,

about to buy new coilpacks and for the price of JJR ones, can't really pass on them considering splitfires are like $640ish.

after feedback on ppl who has personally used them. no slandering of their products saying blabla this is better then that blabla.

cheers

One of my best mates has a R32 gtst, he has Nistune and when I was tuning it his coil packs were breaking down heaps, tried to get the tune as best as i could then he purchased some new JJR coil packs and coil pack lead and installed it and the car runs like a dream, no break downs or anything.

He was getting 200rwkw on mild boost from a RB20 with Nistune

mate of mine has some in his r32 with a hks 3037 on it. standard coils were breaking down so upgraded to JJR, and they work perfect. I have a set in my rb25, yet to be tested though.

Installed these in a customers car, missfire gone for two weeks. Missfire returned. Customer bought splitfires. Turned out the second missfire was due to ignition timing. He had the car dynoed with the JJR coil packs in and made 201hp, installed the splitfires on same day, half hour after the first run, car made 210hp with more midrange.

He's selling the JJR's to suit s2 33 if anyone wants to give them a go.

I can't remember which thread, but someone said they're not that good, even stock standard coils are better

Standard coils may or may not be better, but the JJR ones are certainly going to be better than stuffed stockies any day.

Don't forget you can also buy the superspark brand.

This is a feedback thread based on actual first hand experience from people using these products, not second and third hand opinions from things you have heard on the internet or from your mates cousins sister.

There was an issue with the first release coils for SR20 which was resolved a long long time ago, and given that these coils are backed by a straight up replacement warranty from a reputable trader on this forum, I think they are a safe bet, and a quick read through this thread shows a stack of people who seem to be very happy with their performance:

Hi Blitz,

I value your comments, but I did not hear any off this from my mate's cousin's sister, in fact non of my mates even are into imports, and if they were I don't think I would be talking to their cousin's sister nor would I be talking to their cousin's simply because they're not my friends.

First hand experience, I have none, but this is a forum where we share thoughts, experiences and learn from each other. I base alot of my judgement on selecting parts for my car from people's opinions, reviews of products, I use that information and form a judgement on what parts to buy.

I might not be as rich as some and can afford a variety of parts to test in my spare time like some.

I don't own JJR coils mainly due to the reviews/opinions I hear from other people.

My first set fixed my coil stock packs breaking down problem all together

used them for about 6 months but one day I went to go change my spark plugs and the rubber boot that goes on to the plug was stuck to the plugs a little bit and they broke quite easily when I pulled them off?

I sent them back to JJ and they sent me back a new set no dramas

Never got to re-install them as they were stolen

I would probably use them again.

The problem is, though, that sometimes people misinterpret a negative feedback or form their own opinion based on what people say. This may or may not be the reality, though. Internet forums can be an anti-social place at times but usually it's only because of this misinterpretation that we come unstuck. There is nothing wrong with the JJR coilpacks and even if you know of someone who has a problem with them, they are still not junk. JJ back up their warranty on rightful claims so worst case scenario you endure the slight miss fire for a couple of days.

We cannot all make bulletproof products that meet every single persons demands but we can ensure that our products are well supported and that is exactly what JJ do.

I already got berated at by Blitz via a PM

Waste of money in my opinion, stock coils are perfectly fine. Why spend hundreds of dollars when some high voltage/temp (non-conductive) goo of some sort around the base of the coils will fix the issue of the spark earthing out via the cylinder head? $10 fix ftw.

i have just paid for some s2 33 coilpacks from JJR. I also read mixed reviews about them, but the one unanimous point i read was that JJR are really good with customer service and honouring warranties etc.

ill post back up here when i install them.

thanks mate, ive already ordered them and they are on their way. if i have any dramas, they come with 1year warranty, got nothing to lose, if it DOES (not saying it will) keep stuffing up, i can just request a refund i guess.

tried the high temp silicon path and failed.

Got a mate with an R32 running these. No problems at all, fixed his missfire. I was also considering these when my car was missfiring.

That friend would be me (i think??) But yeah havnt had a problem at all!!

    • It was a great, but typical track day, and some VB was ingested at the night time debrief 🤪
    • And so, to round this out, I couldn't be happier to confirm @MBS206 has decided to buy the car. He drove down from sunny QLD with a trailer last week and it is off to its new home today. I'll let Matt confirm on next steps but I understand broadly that the plan is to leave it pretty much as is, and just get some quality wheel time with a nicely balanced car that is pretty much track ready. There are a few a jobs still to be done first but nothing too major and I think its a very smart buy Dinner last night at the Paragon with a round of VBs (mostly) for Neil
    • Well, 50 pages and the end of a chapter for this car. We took it out for a shakedown at Wakie yesterday, and everything went well. There were a couple of niggles: - Oil cooler fitting leak - tightened, cleaned, stopped leaking - Radiator cap overflow fitting was leaking....Mark called it, the overflow fitting was threaded in and not tight....tightened, tested and held pressure - Small oil leak at the rear of the block, probably the turbo oil feed - too hot to get at it comfortably but probably just needs to be nipped up - leak at the driver's side rear brake line where it meets the hardline. Fitting wasn't loose, so Matt backed it off and back on, no further leaks - there's also a leak somewhere on the top of the fuel tank, maybe that cross over fuel line - that was has been left to fix when its on a hoist Otherwise than those niggles the car went great, turned great and stopped great so it was a very successful day out. I'm always really nervous when a car first hits the track after a long break, especially with a brand new engine as well but it was great. VID-20251011-WA0007.mp4  Big thanks to @The Bogan who dropped by and helped out, @MBS206 and my nephew Lachlan the apprentice.  Neil's wife Mel also surprised the hell out of all of us by dropping by; she's up in Tamworth these days but was travelling to Melbourne so had plausible deniability for turning up at the garage, it was great to see her but also obviously a bit sad all round.
