We only have 2 main types of fuel here. 92 Octane and 97 Octane. The other 2 types of fuel are Diesel and Regular (dunno what ron that is). Of course i only use Octane 97 aka known here as RON97.

Doesn't all of the fuel here come from only a handful of major refineries? (I recall dimly something being mentioned about this in the last fuel saga thread)

I've not seen any real difference in 98 octane fuels from any of the major servo's apart from United which took me from ~350-280km per tank to barely getting to 270km on the trip with the fuel light coming on.

99% of the time it's either Mobil or BP 98 purely due to convenience.

I still think if bp is ripping us off 5c a litre for a 0.1 ron more compared to other 98ron fuels is not worth it (the others have 98.5 ron) mine idles fine on all 98ron but then it's tuned (power fc) always get 480km per tank from all no difference, except that I'm loosing $2.5 (as it costs more) at bp which is a much needed cold drink in this heat!

BP definitely makes a stupidly high profit on ultimate.

thats some decent k's youre getting out of a full tank DaGr81; i only get around 350 (with standard ECU though - running pretty rich)... what car though GTR or GT/T/S25T?

Gtst basically all the standard bolt ons with 200atw so it's no slouch, it's a mix of highway and city driving. But I used to only get 360-380 I picked up 100kms from changing to standard bov and new 02 sensor

Yes it's all from caltex except mobil's 8000 and it is all the same pretty much, you want more from it, add a $14 octane booster

The only way to go is BP Ultimate and E85 on a 10 to 1 mix.

My GTR was tuned for Shell V Power Racing 100 RON and by changing to this mix on the same tune I picked up 10 kw and the car runs cooler. E85 is a good cheap octane booster that really works.

A few questions about this

My GTR was tuned for V power racing..... Have you since had your GTR retuned for the 1:10 ratio?

Do you just premix it in jerry cans?

I have made no change to the tune at all - it is still the V Power Racing tune. This mix is very similar to V Power Racing with a similar RON which is why the tune works.

I use a 25 litre jerry can that I simply mix 20 litres of BP Ultimate with 2 litres of E85.

used to use bp ultimate only since I got my R34 ... but only get 300kms out of 50l of fuel which is about 16.5l/100 Kms ie. HIGH. My ecu is factory but remapped so it is NOT running rich, however I do drive around town exclusively with a lot of stop and go traffic.

Recently started filling up with Caltex Vortex 98, but mileage is the same (300Kms from 50l) except I am starting to notice exhaust fumes now .. not sure if it's just the fuel that stinks more or if I got a leak somewhere recently (exhaust? some gasket ? hmm)

have a quater tank left, and have done 310ks on a single tank of ultimate so far....

on V-power would struggle to make 300 comfortably.

driving is around a largeish country town so a fair bit of stop/starting

    • How dare you sell your unreliable Skyline and buy a reliable, Toyota/Yamaha car with a strong gearbox, torsen LSD and Toyota reliability. At least you won't need to worry about oil pumps, big catch can, oil restrictors, blowing off power steering belts, sheering off 3rd gear, failing ABS relays/pumps, etc.
    • Hope you aren't too sore after that one, might take a day or 2 to notice yet and I guess it is a loooooong drive home. On the bright side, tube frame front end is a thing at superlap, right?

    • The chart of front pressure to rear pressure (with one being on the x axis and the other being on the y axis) is not a straight line on a typical proportioning valve. At lower pressures there is a straight line with one slope, and at higher pressures that changes to a lower slope. That creates a bend in the line at that pressure, called the knee point. If you do not change the proportionng as the pressure gets higher, you will suffer excessive pressure (at one end of the car or the other, depending on which way you look at the proportioning action) and then get lockups at that end. The HFM BM57, from my memory of previous discussions, is based on the BM57 from a different car (to a Skyline), with a different requirement for the location of the knee point and the distribution of pressure front to rear, and so is not a good choice for an upgrade on a Skyline. Here's a couple of links to some old posts, one from here, one from elsewhere. A lot of it pertains to adjustable prop valves, but the idea is the same. There are plenty of discussions on here about this issue from al the many years of people wanting a cheap/accessible option. https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/ https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/
    • Yeah dunno why johhny posted that here with no context, just post on FB/insta bro where he put it up?  Laine had an off at T4 during Thurs prac, he's ok, car is less than perfect, they are done for the weekend, he can fill in the rest. Bando also binned it like 100m up the road.
