Hey Everyone,

I'm in the 'slow' process of collecting parts to get my RB26/30 build underway - End result will be to achieve around 300rwkw with a lot of response (rev limited to around 7200-7500)

Items already purchased:

RB26 Head - complete with covers

RB26 std inlet plenum

RB26 std 6 throttles

GT3076r - 0.82 external gate

TIAL 38mm external gate (14psi spring)

6 Boost manifold

Now i'm looking at buying these bits as i go - just hoping people can speak from experience and point me in the right direction for what is good value, where to get it from for the best price - The build isn't supposed to be all out, just would like to keep it reliable

Items to be purchased:

RB30 block (series 2 - as means oil drains already in block?)

Forged pistons & rings

Rods

Oil pump

Metal Head gasket

Arp rod bolt kit

ARP main stud kit

ARP head stud kit

ACL Bearings

Water pump

Harmonic balancer (std?)

Modified sump – rb30

Custom oil drain & oil restrictors (or is this mainly to suit RB25?)

Crank collar

All other machining etc to suit - completed by Nisspeed here in SA.

Here are a couple of pics of parts obtained already,

cheers

-Matt

for your power goals i think the engine is abit overkill, forgies etc are not really needed, just freshen up the stock block and it should run 300kw pretty easily, and head studs etc not needed either.

The common belt everyone seems to use is the Dayco 94407, its about $35 or so, i reckon spending $100+ on other belts isnt needed.

If you plan on upgrading turbo later than think about forgies etc but with the 3076r i personally wouldnt bother. my motor i recently did i wish i went straight for the gt3582, the 3076 just doesnt have that throw ya back in the seat feel i was hoping for.

just my 2c worth ;)

If he plans to use the car like his avatar then he needs a very strong engine. If you have the money no need to skimp on reliability.

I love the gt3076r on my rb30det, it's freaken awesome, power and torque throughout the whole rev range!

My only concern about your setup is the 38mm ext gate. You my get boost creep, I would have gone for at least a 45mm gate.

Hey cheers guys - building it to be as 'reliable' as possible - mainly for drift, but also something i can just have fun in. Wanting to do some grip/hillclimb/drag aswell.

Initially i went for the turbosmart 38mm, but I spoke with Simon at morpowa (has a 2jz with 6boost manifold, 38mm tial, gt3582 no boost issues) and he also spoke with Kyle (i think thats his name) from 6boost and came to the conclusion that if i change to the TIAL 38mm i should have no probs.

I know you always hunger for more, but this is the route i'm going atm.

Here's a pic of the car before my old TOMEI 2.4 was removed and the car was stripped getting ready for CAMS cage.

...So who can tell me where to buy stuff

RB30 block - Every single rb30 i've personally seen (which is about 15 to date) has had the bungs for all the oil/water lines

Forged pistons & rings - Mahle pistons from USA or get the rod & cp piston combo from spoolimports, if u use the cp pistons get a set of acl oil rings to suit

Rods - Spool rods

Oil pump - i'd personally put a tomei on it, or better yet an external. ur going to be ringing its neck, lets not hide that fact lol

Metal Head gasket - acl gasket kit will surfice

Arp rod bolt kit - comes with the spool rods

ARP main stud kit - required for ur application

ARP head stud kit - required for ur applicaton (u'd be after RB25 headstuds)

ACL Bearings - yep their good

Water pump - genuine nissan

Harmonic balancer (std?) - atleast a ross balancer, ati if ur going to run an external oil pump

Modified sump - something with extra capactiy, gates & baffling

Custom oil drain & oil restrictors (or is this mainly to suit RB25?) - -10 drain from back of head, oil restrictors

Crank collar - proengines do them

id also put some poncams and springs in it with adjustable gears

hope that helps

Thanks for your help :)

That spool site is good - i've flicked an email off to him so thanks for that.

Why is it RB25 head studs are required? same as 26?

With the custom oil drain is it like this?

http://www.spoolimports.com/content/SPOOLR...OilDrainKit.asp

are these the oil restrictors? http://www.lewisengines.com.au/prod79.htm

how do they work?

Also looking into Moroso oil accumulator

the rb25 head studs will screw into the 30 block but the 26 studs are bigger and would need drilling and tapping the new thread. just make sure u have both the head guides before u fit the head gasket and head so the head wont move around.

ah, mr huddy, i have read a few of your posts in the cefiro forum. going 26/30 aye? i ran a bottom end bearing in my 26 cefiro and have also decided to go 26/30, i purchaced a series 3 siloette rb30, it has all of the oil lines in the block, i think there was one for sale on boost cruiser for $150. just having fun extending the down pipes off the twin turbos at the moment, not so easy doing it in the shed. good luck with the build. if you are running a 26 head do you still need to run the oil restrictors, isnt one of the oil galleries blocked off? i have noticed the 26 block has one of the oil galleries blocked off compared to the 30 do you need to weld up the 30s oil gallery? is running baffels in the sump necessary for a 30? any information will be greatly appreciated. sorry for crashing your thread huddy

Not all RB30's had oil feed and return bungs in the block.

Very early VL's had the series 1 block which has no ports for oil/water lines, to be honest, I have only ever seen one!

Pretty much all R31's have the series 2 block.

I am doing the same engine for my wifes car. I have the rb30 bottom end with a 26 head. My biggest issue is to go twin high mount turbos as my head came with a brand new twin high mount manifold, or a highmount single.

Just buy a cheap RB20 and throw a 26 crank and rods at it ...err oh :)

I think you're over due for another drive of my car Troy, just to jog the memory banks :(. It's a little different than when you drove it during the "run-in tune", that's pretty much my low boost now; high boost unleashes an angrier beast .

Still have some more "tuning experiments" that i want to try, to see if she has more in it, should be sorted in a few weeks.

ie: Apexi exhaust, adjustment of inlet and exhaust cam gears, etc.

    • Hey all  im wondering if you can help me please I have put a rb20 box in my r34 gtt as my auto packed up and a friend had a spare box I know it’s not ideal but it will get me up and running for now. we have done the conversation and everything is working great but my Speedo we got a s13 speed sensor but my Speedo reads double now and I bought a speed converter but still not having any luck.  so I thought I’ll reach out and pick your brains  any help would be appreciated please as I wanna drive my car again
    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
