Hi all

I rang Nissan today, due to the fact that I have a faulty AFM on my R32, He said he'd get back to me.....

3hrs later he quoted me 1000.00 because they wont just sell the AFM to me.

Any thoughts?

you could get 2 z32s for a lot less than that...

Your getting your pants pulled down over the price..

Search the for sale sections. You can find them second at a FAAAR cheaper price.

Call up some Jap wreakers or Places that import half cuts. Or upgrade to Z32?

1 grand is rediculous

So $1000 for them to repair your afms? That sucks. I repaired mine a couple times and got jack of it breaking down so I bought a pair of genuine afms through nissan for $1100. Expensive, i know, but i didn't want to upgrade to z32 or buy second hand. Don't understand what they mean they wont sell them to you?

I guess they are 16 - 20 yo, so they don't really want to get rid of them?

were yours for r32's?

my cousin was also quoted a similar amount for an rb20 AFM about 1 year ago. very strange.

and no Greg you dont need a SAFC or anything like that to 'tune' an afm :|

you cant run a car with a standard ecu with z32 afm

Not sure if SAFC can be made to make it work, but your standard ecu will hate the z32

Nah man Nissan will rip you off big time, just get a (300ZX) Z32 AFM from any aftermarket place afew hundred dollars as some has said on here.

I don't think you will need a tune, but you can run it on a dyno just to make sure.

Ahh k Cool guys,

Least its not only me, that fixes my theories of being cursed :D

What about airflow meter elimination with an emanage ultimate (airflow map), anybody had a shot at that?

:) Thanks for all the info BTW

Do you mean running the car with no AFM?

If so I have seen a R33 GTR with a APexi Dejectro and there is no AFM's and also SAU member DSTROY has one and you can ask him about it.

I asked about it one time and from memory it came to the conclusion that it does the same thing as having AFM's.

Or rather there was not much of an advantage, as the APexi Dejectro was monitoring the Air Flows, insted of having AFM's.

But if your having trouble finding an AFM you could use the eManage Ultimate...

Yeah i did some research on it and found that i could drop the AFM, so i was sold on the Idea hahaha.

But i did want to know if it was reliable as a daily driver still after using the map, I.e. cold starts etc.

That and in the future i was thinking of a FMIC hence the i could get it tuned.

If you wanted to retain your AFM a better way to go about it would be to get a change over item through Injectronics, http://www.injectronics.com.au/.

They send you a new AFM and if it fixes the problem you send your old one back to them.

If it doesn't fix the problem you send the new AFM back.

New units come with a 24 month warrenty and cost about $300.

    • That looks good, but I think you're going to need much beefier side skirts now.
    • They are daft and there's a reason it never caught on. Steering feel? We don't need no stinking steering feel!
    • I gotta pull you up on this. It's driving me crazy. A shutter is something that closes, like over a window or in a cmera. The word you want is shudder. That LSD is clearly f**ked. Take it to a diff shop and get it disassembled and examined by an expert. YOu might have plates welded together or something equally crazy.
    • Define "starting to fail". Wy not just rebuild them?
    • Check the Nistune doco. There are a few assumptions being made here that might not be valid. I will list the things that occur to me: Base map. Base map for what? Base map for Z32? Then the cranking pulse width is probably wrong for an RB25. The extra 500cc of capacity might well be enough to prevent it from catching. Base map for RB25? I don't think you can load one of those into a Z32. You have to just make the settings correct for an RB25 in the Z32 base map. That is either K or the TIM to get the pulsewidth right. Loom. You bought a loom for an RB. And you plugged it into a Z32 ECU. Did you make sure that any iwre differences were swapped. From memory, there's at least a couple. And as per the others, I would suggest making sure that the fuel pressure is correct while cranking and that the injectors are actually flowing as expected. They really must come out and go on the bench, unless you do find that you have messed up as per above points. I would also suggest watching in Nistune to make sure that everything is reading correctly. That the correct binary flags are raised at the right time (like the crank signal), that there's no stupid values in K or TIM. That you have not got mismatched firmware for the ECU and/or a wrong image loaded.
