My computer fcucked up and crashed. Only just got it back online.

What i was going to say waaaaas:

This has been sh!tting me up the wall for a while:

Licensing of drivers. In Australia for some reason a license is regarded as a right, NOT the privalege it is. The test is too easy and we've got too many people out on the roads who don't have a bloody clue about driving. What's scarier is that in many cases they don't keep their cars safely maintained (legal tread on tyres, etc) and then call us/you/me dangerous because we've got performance cars. Sure there are a few performance car owners who don't know wrong from right, but they're a minority.

People who drive on the main freeway from Sydney-Newcastle (f3) won't keep left unless overtaking (there's enough bloody signs to remind them!). They just blindly travel at 100 or less in the right lane. WTF??? Most of these the sphincter of the universes also pull out, cutting you off, and then trundle along at 100 or less in a 110km/h zone. WTF#2???

Parking lot dents. I'm sick of it. I don't know why i bother keeping a car looking nice if people don't watch their doors/parking and crash into it. I've spend over 2k fixing dents up in the last year. What's with people in Sydney and the Central Coast?

Speed limits. THESE ARE RHETORICAL QUESTIONS This is a can of worms that inspires passionate and biased replys so all im gunna say is:

I totally dig 40km/h school zones BUT what's with all the other fixed speed cameras in safe, multi-lane roads or at the bottom of hills? And why doesn't all this money go to fixing our abysmal roads?

I had my Mazda for 2 hours after i picked it up, brand new!!, from the dealer.

Parked it at Tuggerah shops for 15mins. Came out and someone had thrown front and rear doors open into my new car, causing dents in my front door and the leading edge of my rear door... GRRRRRR

I bet the dude who did that said to himself "Ya shoodn`t `ave paaaaaarked so close to me ya goose..." and left without a guilt feeling at all.

...bastard...:)

farken idiots!

i recently parked at uni where i was sideswiped by some idiot trying to park in the spot next to me! lucky the scratches were very superficial and you can hardly see them after 1 hour of cut-and-polish and buffing...

one day i will catch the person in the act and they'll regret it!

hahaha a cop told me having a license was a privilege not a right?

Unfortunately its pretty much a right, because who can't get a license?? The only time it stops becoming a right is when it makes the government more money to take it off you, or the potential to cost them money is greater.

I'm all for 5 yearly resit of licenses. Would solve so many problems. Hell after about 5 years you've fogotten half the road rules anyway..

In ten years all i'll probably be able to remember, is "red stop", "green go", and "follow the speed limit to the letter".. actually **** it il'll just get autopilot to drive my car and snooze off to sleep. May as well

Man, go drive OS and you will soon see whilst we are not perfect we are a mile a head of some of the opposition. That said i have only driven in Indonesia (that was fun... but if i had a wife and kids it would have been scary!) and in France and England. So dont have a lot of experience.

I was reading something the other day that got me thinking. I cant remember the percentage but it was low, like less then 5% of accidents can be attributed to an unroadworthy car, ie bald tyres etc. So whats with the whole defecting / road safety thing.

And AUSTRALIA is the BEST country in the world my friend!

I cant remember the percentage but it was low, like less then 5% of accidents can be attributed to an unroadworthy car, ie bald tyres etc.

That was an independent report tabled before VIC parliament i believe a couple of years back. Of course, that doesn't stop them defecting every man and their dog. And I still don't understand how a car being "too low" causes any form of safety hazard other than to your own car.

Then again, with appropriate independent research i am sure "speed" would also not be a major cause in most accidents either.

Its all what they want people to believe, and what they need to push their own agenda.

U think its bad over there? in WA we dont have keep left signs at all.

This week ive been driving the old mans jeep and it has a set of big ass spotlights on the roof. Needless to say , i have become the scourge of the right line hog. Oh and the horn is pretty loud too :)

Im all for making driver lic harder to get though. Cars should be like bikes, if u want a powerful car u have to earn it. Too many kids with 'lines and or silvias that are just wating to have an accident.

Also if u cant see a speed camera u deserve to get busted, they are plain as day. If the speed camera was a kid about to run onto the road u would have nailed him good.

Australia rules m8, where else can u get free education, free medical and have the govt pay u to sit on ure ass. :)

you thinking moving to WA ..... us WA guys are thinking of moving to SA ... no demerit points taken off for multinovas .... their cop presence seems less than WA .... they dont have friggin PolAir following their cruises around! ..... Trust me WA dont get away with murder ..... we get defects just because its an import therefore something must be illegal on it!

Oh and talking about idiots - most people have heard my story but last week a old guy ran a red light and rearranged the front of my car then reversed and drove off.

About 2 years ago someone backed into my Zed ... no note ... nothing .... got it fixed picked it up from the panel beaters .... had it back only 15 mins then someone right in front of my eyes in a shopping centre backed into again .... you do wonder how people get their licenses but unfortunately nothings going to change ... there will be forever idiots ....

    • Thanks for doing that Duncan! Makes you a good person in my books. We don't get kangaroos or wombats here. But we have bats and it's similar. AFAIK it's often the mums with a baby attached that get hit because they drop lower when starting from a tree. If you hit an animal, check on it. https://www.ifaw.org/au/resources/wildlife-rescue-app An app to get the closest wildlife rescue contact.
    • My dream is also to have a proper hoist, but I don't think it will ever happen. My quickjack is probably as close as I'll ever get, it really is very good though.
    • Yeah we keep on in the dailies, it is pretty poor how many animals get hit and the driver leaves without checking....have saved a couple of little ones over the years. Bit of a gruesome job though, pouches generally need to be cut open because they are so tight and often the joey doesn't realise mum is gone so they are still locked onto the teat. I checked the modules in front of the DS wheel where an oil cooler should go.... There is the radar unit - that can go for race use) One of the 2 HX water pumps, the silver cylinder. That needs to be kept but might be able to be relocated But the bad news, the big computer mounted vertically in front of the wheel (blocking any potential air exit) is the electric steering computer. That is required until/unless i do a hydraulic steering conversion, and in CAD based modern car design it is not like I can just pop a big unit like that somewhere else (plus the loom would be too short anywhere else too). So, the passenger side is OK to clear out (just use a smaller washer reservoir, potentially elsewhere), but the DS no beuno
    • Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.
    • BTW I measured the jack I have, it is 70mm at the saddle but you only have about 700 until it returns to 150mm high at the cylinder so it is good but no magic bullet.
