I was always under the impression hypergear did turbos for other cars, but as this is a skyline forum, we only hear about skyline related turbos?

I guess I was wrong.

You are absolutely correct. Stao even mentioned he was working on a turbo for a VW Golf, so I take this as interest in moving towards other markets and keeping with the times. Regardless, Skylines are not over and done with for aftermarket parts...far from it in my opinion. In fact, the market segment for companies like HG is larger than ever, simply because these cars are becoming more and more accessible and they aren't worth spending big money on big brand stuff anymore. I know you guys are just trying to help with your feedback, but don't you think Stao would be doing what you're saying if his current system wasn't working for him? Also, FWIW I didn't buy an HG because I can't afford an HKS, I bought it because I wanted to have some fun with an experimental underdog, not use a turbo that has been tried and proven...I wanted to do the trying and proving.

I'm pretty sure he will still build you a cheap high flow for ~$1000 if that's all you want, but it's not what people want anymore...this thread has had nothing but talk of SS1PU and the G3 over the last couple months, they are what people want. So you got your wish for two models that Stao can focus on improving and I'm pretty sure that's what he's been working on lately. As far as previous customers buying turbos and having them superseded...er...Stao is always offering to upgrade people's old turbos for them with the latest modification at little or no charge. He does NOT owe them this, no other company I know of in this industry will offer to do that for customers and it's a moot point to claim the R&D isn't worth continuing on an RB25 turbo yet claim that previous customers will experience dissonance over their model being superseded significantly by the latest improvements - which one is it guys?

As for beta testing, who cares as long as people are happy with the product. People know what they are getting when they buy a turbo. Yes Stao creates a turbo and puts up a few dyno charts...but he doesn't say "this is the new turbo you should buy" - people practically say "give me that one!" and demand he makes them the same turbo. So what should he do, "sorry can't sell you one, I haven't spent hundreds of thousands on testing it yet..."

/rant

tl;dr don't like it, don't buy it, there's no pleasing some people

lol sorry guys, I don't mean that to sound harsh either, just feel like there's a bit of misinfo being chucked around for no particular reason and I'm somewhat tired/moody (male PMS).

*changes tampon*

lol, i knew you would have a rant...

*Artz goes to look up meaning of dissonance :ermm: *

Haha once you know it you'll use the word all the time.

The RB25det is a good engine for a research ground, results from it can be used to estimate power range from a specific turbo combination on similar sized engines.

Looking back to results generated with the old TRxx series, new series take a giant step forward in performance. Take the ATR43G3 for instance, it had same response as the TR43i but makes 70kws more top end, while the ATR43SS1 makes similar power as the TR43 with twice more mid range, they are not comparable.

The same car's been used for testing and evaluation through all those years, Even running stock engine it was producing similar power as what it is today based on same boost, running hub or roller dynos with 3 different tuners.

The final evaluation figure pre-release means the turbo is capable of making what it made, So the differences could only be in supporting mods and tune. And there are people getting evaluation results per boost level.

A large section of this thread is problem solving and support, it is a good write up in many cases of how people find the problem, sorting it out and ends up with the desired performance.

Turbocharger development will kept on going, we can only come up what I believe is the best during the time been, and improve out comes as project progresses.

I love the turbo btw.

Wouldn't mind the boost issue to be fixed but I will speak to Stao about controlling this.

Everything else is perfectly fine

Most aftermarket turbos with internal wastegates have boost control problems, EBC is a requirement IMO.

Trying to control flat high boost with big back pressure with a simple linear spring is borderline impossible imo because as the rpm increases it chokes more and more so you need a changing gain factor (the spring) which is only really easily achieved with an electronic controller.

The reason a lot of people manage flat boost on garrets is because they are running much bigger exhaust housings where the turbo doesn't choke up as much. it isn't because it is a "better" designed turbo imo.

Kasko please check my youtube video under: taosg2001 for preloading instructions and just check to make sure the gate is tightly shut by the actuator with about 3mms of preload. That will get even better response as the gate don't open as early. This should be the correct boost curve that matched mine

Preloading the spring won't cause the boost to go higher then the preset 20psi will it?

Also will it put at DVS's tune?

If its currently lose then making it tight with about 2~3mms preload won't affect much. But check boost controller once you've done it.

It never seemed loose from what I remember when installing the turbo.

I didn't play around with any of it I just got the turbo in the mail and bolted it straight on.

I'll check this afternoon after work but

Stao, have you thought about fudging your results to show LESS power, that way when people actually make more power than what they were expecting, HG turbos will be all the rage? ;)

LOL thats actually a really good idea.

Under rate the turbo, keeping expectations in line with response and let end users be happily surprised in the end.

Well Kando did have the advantage of being initially perceived as cheap chinese eBay shit lol. SURPRISE!

Talk about a mad troll right? lol

Anything repro' MHI is awesome. Just look at Hyundai!

LoL have a look at the dyno footage, you will note all the runs are pretty much within 10kws or less. That 330rwkw G3 had variance of 5kws pulling runs all afternoon.

exactly, and if people don't trust status to give an accurate result then we are all f**ked.

    • Haha, i kow right? Could have bought so many cars for the same amount of money (or less) but driving Unicorn gives you at least +1mln to style 😅. Like wise man said "life's to short to drink cheap wine and drive boring cars" 😉
    • Newbie here, proud owner of an Autech 260RS. I'm on the hunt for wiring diagrams specific to the 260RS, particularly S1. I've ran my eyes through R33, R34 Diagrams, there are some similarities, however continue to find incorrect wire colours and pins on connectors in the 33,34 diagrams.   I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction? I'd be happy to pay for the originals in Japanese. I can translate them, at least they would be accurate.   Any help please would be greatly appreciated, never heard an RB26DETT before let alone driven one, and I've got a spaghetti monster of goodness to sort out.   Cheers Benny
    • Hey all  im wondering if you can help me please I have put a rb20 box in my r34 gtt as my auto packed up and a friend had a spare box I know it’s not ideal but it will get me up and running for now. we have done the conversation and everything is working great but my Speedo we got a s13 speed sensor but my Speedo reads double now and I bought a speed converter but still not having any luck.  so I thought I’ll reach out and pick your brains  any help would be appreciated please as I wanna drive my car again
    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
