Interesting to read the V8 take on the race :(

Funny how there was no mention of this GTR being a 20 year old, mostly driveway-built 206KW *nugget* against a couple of workshop backed 300KW+ almost brand spanking new taxis :nyaanyaa:

Now while we've been having a little bit of cheeky fun with this thread I should point out that there is always brilliant, skilled racing in the CTC category, regardless of the badge on the car.

Should also mention that most of the commodore guys seemed genuinely pleased to see Duncan FINALLY finish a race, and finish it well.

(and yes, I am still in trouble for posting that pic) :(

bloody commodores are already wide enough. at least we can rely on wakie not being hot and dry. I'm loooking forward too it but I would rather a couple of sprint races than one enduro really.

yeah the mount I got was from RR as well. they are cheaper on ebay though. it is attached to the rear passenger window, gives good in cabin view for my use in reviewing laps but not great for mounting it maxmising external view thru the windscreen. the best mount I've had for that is from the passenger side roof at the a pillar - these cameras have very wide angle heads so you need to mount them right forward. this is from that spot

Thanks Duncan. Is yours the suction mount, or the window mount version.

These seem like a pretty cheap option: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi...=tab%3DWatching

yeah mate its the same one in that link. I just paid 3x for it :( It holds a light weight like a camera head easily and firmly. not sure how it would go holding a whole camera though, and as I said window is not necessarily the best place for in cabin shots.

I want to try mounting it off my cage as I had a cage mount put on for my Handycam... waste of money that was! :(

But I also want to try mounting it off the window and where you mentioned near the A pillar also. I just wasn't sure whether to get one like the above, or the 'Ultra Clamp' type from Race Recall http://racerecall.com/mounts__cases.html Can you tell me how the POV head mounts to the screw type fitting on the ebay clamp I listed? I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed :(

Dan came up with a pretty good setup for recording track time on my car. Spy pen, zip tie + numberplate ftw. Might not be applicable to race-style events as the camera might get crushed if you were to give the car in front a Duncan-style love tap, but for time attack where you dont have to worry about contact, it's pretty secure.

the spy pen was like $80 and can do over 5 hours of continuous recording. Plugs straight into pc/laptop and the files are already in avi or wmv format.

some proof this is a proper driveway built car!

the shelter came out when it started pissing down this arvo :P

D is still out in it getting the poor old girl ready for the 1-hour race at Wakie this weekend (and I'm guessing still cursing we won't have the 3 car + hoist shed built until June at least)

Oh yea,,,forgot about that little oversight. I'm at Oran Park this weekend,,,so Duncan needs help. 3 heads actually,,,1 to hold the car (no touching) 1 on the jack (also the wheel swapper) and 1 changing the wheel.

Ha Ha I could use some help too,,,but Duncans racing is a lot harder than mine.

Neil.

Spotted today :D

Hey Duncan,I'm thinking about becoming a paid up member of the club for amongst other benefits being able to go to race tracks on track days and give my GTR 33 a run, just wondering if you can tell me what's required of me before I can race on the track or even do solo laps to avoid hitting or being hit,as I don't want to damage my baby just want to have some fun legally??Cheers Grey Pearl.

    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
    • So, now all you need to do is connect the 2 or 3x 12v feeds into the unit to permanent 12v, ACC 12V and IGN 12V that you can find in the spot behind the stereo, and the earth, and then it will switch on with the car.
