My first session at Sandown ever was in the dry, second session it was pouring rain. Still good fun, you jsut have to be very careful and use higher gears, 3rd when you would use 2nd, 4th when you would use 3rd and be smooth. In a perfect world you would do every track in the wet, for me the next time i have gone somewhere in the dry i have always been quicker. Slow mo in the wet gives you time to really suss the lines

It was great for the 6 practice laps I did before coming off :D No rain, just windy and cold.

Thanks to the crew that helped me get the car moving, Martin for his space saver, Mick for his space saver and Escort dude for his jack :)

shitty day for me, I only got in 2 timed laps before I retired with oil pressure issues. i got a time of 1:26.2953 which is way off my pb. one day i'll get a good run at Sandown!

What happened Juliette? I heard the tyres came off the rim?

Bris. I was there in the arvo and mick and Ryan were going well with the sil80. While packing up all the gear the front rotor cracked spectacularly just sitting there! It was really loud!

Tims 32 went well. Reliability special... well it is a 32 after all!

Datto's go better with tight wheel nuts... :D

I don't envy the 46deg heat even though it's windy and wet here.

I got into a slide at turn 1 I didn't manage to get out of, got airborne over the ripple strip, landed and spun in the grass. The ripple strip and grass at turn 1 told my tyres to leave the rims :D

The shit thing is I managed no more than the practice session before that happened on the first f*cking corner and then the car spent the rest of the day on the infield at turn 2/3.

I was wondering where you'd gone :) Sorry to hear.

Alot of people had problems today...

Matty, i was wondering where you dissapeared to... i told you this morning its because i keep turning up to the same track days as you, im a bad omen! :P

Juliette, good to see you made it home ok, though it was a shame you had such limited track time today :(

Chris, i hope everything is ok with your engine.

Me, well brakes, aparently you need them... i did one session, lap 4, coming into turn 1, brake pedal hit the floor! (i pooped a little... :D ) just made the turn. came in to find nothing left on the front pads but metal... its my fault, silly me shoulda check this before the day... the things we forget. :)

Sam, what an amazing car! for the minimal mods done, that machine is hoocked up! and thanks again for taking me round on the passenger session. you steer the car really well! :D

All in all, it was good that the weather held out for us, though there was big tail wind down the main straight for most of the day.

time for me to get some new pads, cant wait for the next track day! :)

cheers,

matty shepo

So Tim was out there. LOL Mick has the life, moving from Dirty2 to that silly thing of Ryans. Did Ryan get into the 22s? He needs to warm and cool brakes properly, he has quite the appetite  LOL and i jsut sold my rotors for a song :)

Matt, sorry to read that again Sandown has been shit all luck for you. So our hopes are with Ryan. If Mick says he prefers Ryan's car to Micks then i am going to have to remove my car from the workshop :P

Oh an Chris? Which Chris had engine problems ?

Oh, and looks like Andrew got his fastest time of the day in the last session. Well done....

Thanks big fella, was going for the 19 but failed again. I forgot how hard this track was on brakes. Mine are in serious need of a bleed.

I didn't have the camera on for the last session as it was just meant to be a bit of fun. I'll put some footage up later on and some data for those that are interested.

Car was flawless again. Keeps amazing me that a 15 year old sh!tter can be this good.

it was an awesome day

no rain except for 1 or 2 drops

i was so wishing i had my car ready for this, but there is always the next one. :)

saw a few ppl with cameras, so would be great to see some action shots :/

Cheers

Well I had a blast today

First proper track day, car went great, even if I was slow as..

have to say 2nd lap of practise hitting the kitty litter at end of turn 1 with a mx5 coming in backwards towards me was a interesting moment had me puckered up when hitting the track again

so destroyed front right tyre, went though 45-50 L of fuel in 97 km, and had the best fun in my own car ever..(no offense to some ex's)

and all this on stree rubber, with very very minimal mods

I strongly suggest anyone that thinking about doing one of these days to bite the bullett and do it!

(oh and see u all at deca)

cheers

M

    • What 1.5 way? There's no such thing really as a 1.5 way, just different ways of explaining 2 ways with different ramp rates. HOWEVER. In any driving in a straight line your 1.5 or 2 or 1.7 way should have no clunking at all. With the clutch fully depressed the diff should be silent (unless it's welded but I'm assuming it's not). Something aint right here.
    • Clutch is a spec brand, new clutch system,( PP, flywheel, friction disc, etc. pull type) installed 100 miles ago, with no problems.
    • looking for some help and maybe some insight on others experience with a new LSD. R34 GT ran and drove beautifully, but always alot of grip loss due to the open R200 rear end, so I just installed a new 1.5 LSD way into the stock open R200 for a ER34. Simple. Everything seemed right. I test drove for the first time this weekend. as I started to back out the garage the first time slowly with tires straight it sounded and felt like I had a loose or half disconnected drive shaft...that was clucking around loose and shaking entire vehicle, and making it feel like the trans clutch was spontaneously slipping then grabbing very roughly while just letting out pedal slowly. I backed it out went to pull forward with the same noise, shake and slip grab feeling with hesitation, I turned the tires to back out more and then pulled ahead some same thing but worst because of added wheel resistance (which that I expected) puzzled … pulling it back in checking everything over and finding nothing wrong, I tried it the next day. same thing, couldn’t believe how it shook everything again making a terrible noise and making it feel like the trans clutch was slipping and grabbing, but I got it out of garage into the driveway, got it straight, drove forward and then reveres a few times in a straight line everything shaking , causing what felt like clutch slip and grab every time, sounded like right behind front driver tire and I could feel it in the floor board with my feet,... worst right when beginning to let clutch pedal out to engage slightly, shuttering and sounding terrible along the way…I managed to slowly get down the road, babying it the whole way, once I was rolling (out of 1st) seemed to be better and between shifts, then clutch felt closer to normal…not slip/ grab etc., but back down to any stop, straight road or turning, same thing. Made no difference if all tires were straight or if I was turning. All other gauge read out correct. with in 2 miles as planned I reached the empty parking lot and performed the break in procedure that came with lsd, essentially to drive in a figure 8 a bunch.  Did this, binding chattering, and shaking the car the whole way. I drove it back home seemed somewhat normal once I was in straight line and past 10 mph or so, and I know it will “bind” on corners and cause some tires squeal when turning especially from a stop, but when I begin to move it still causes what feels like the trans clutch to slip and jerk badly as well as shaking the entire car, and sounds terrible, that I didn’t expect. I used the fluid they supplied with LSD kit and did the breaking, planning to change fluid as they suggest after breaking, but wondering will it get smoother or less aggressive with use? maybe a 1.5 is just too aggressive for normal road driving?   I have a LSD that I put in my 71 cuda when I restored it, with amazing smooth , quite yet effective results. Different style LSD but that ones a joy to drive. maybe expecting too much from this R200?
