Its getting really bad...i live in Mill park..northern melbourne and iv been pulled over 7 times these last 6 months. I was definitly not doing anything stupid. Every time i had my engine checked, tires checked and 2 times was sent to EPA to test my exhaust. Its just stupid..

Won't bother arguing bout how dodgy cops are but most r good and reasonable even with standard cars but in the end u have bought the gtr for the love of it, like I bought my gtst and gtt cos I always wanted a skyline. Just enjoy it while u have it mate, if the cops decide to act like cocks then that's nothing u can help. No one really appreciates fully sick kents who rip skids n make the rest of us look bad

Serious? Surely not in the northern subs... You may have something very obvious on your car that warrants them to take a look.

or the car you are driving has some sort of "history" with the cops. :)

Cops in the northern subs generally don't care unless you seem to be driving erratically or driving in a suspicious manner. Cause they actually go out and fight the "real crime" and accidents as a priority - due to resources being stretched.

I imagine defecting someone is lower in their list.

As opposed to the east and south east where the crime rate is generally lower - so "possibly" more reasources are focused on the roads.

I've lived in different parts of northern subs for the past 22 years.

But since you are from Mill Park - they could be ramping up cause of the guy that decided to wrap himself and some friends around a tree back in January...

By the way I find the cops in the northern subs pretty tough (really lay down the law) but easy going and don't mind a friendly chat - I guess they have seen way too much - that nothing really shakes their world anymore. If only more cops were like this... but that's probably for another thread - and would be open to debate

Pft you can have illegal mods. Just make sure they don't find them :D my car looks 100% stock under the bonnet. So I don't care that they pull me over with my skittles paintjob because I never get defected haha

wow... now that's confidence...

your car is too loud for starters.... then there's the matter of the aftermarket turbo... your injectors are the wrong colour (epa guys can spot this)

from memory you have a hole cut for your fmic....

you could be reeeeeeemed

(but your car is DEFINATELY not too low) :D

After I get this EPA cleared I'll be taking Boronia Road from now on. f**k Burwood Highway and f**k the gauntlet. Most police I come across are nice and most cop cars don't give me more than a glance, but there's something about Knox TMU...

That's what I'm saying man, it's the area. Saying "oh you wont get pulled over looking stock" is just plain BS. It's a matter of time, unless you're out west or north. Come live out east and you'll see what I'm talking about. You'll be f**ked in the ass, I guarantee.

In saying that you can mod legally but really, what are your options? FMIC or POD, No ECU, no boost, no turbo change....whoopy do!

I had my kicker panel pulled off to check my ECU by the TMU, they are THAT thorough!! I'd swapped the PFC plate for the stock Nissan cover plate luckily.

Yeap but just shows how useless cops are. I just don't go to Knox and I'm fine. Cops never questioned injectors or even knew it had a larger turbo. They really can't find shit lol

The cops r probs reading this lol...Now they know the bright orange Skyline is illegally modified.... :)

The answer is simply if you can accept the fact when mod it you will get done eventually every now and then and if your prepared to deal with it rather then bitch about it then go ahead, me personally I like the mods I do and yes I hate getting done but to me driving my car with mods and enjoying it outweighs the price of getting done every now and then I just think of it as a extra tax for driving a skyline.

I use burwood highway all the time, no dramas at all, but i've only had the supra for what, 1.5 months?

Which sections should i avoid?

I find stud road just as bad around the knox area, even my dad noticed he got a new Pajero from High street road / stud road corner and when he was checking up on the progress / paying stuff off, 3/4 of the times he was there he saw a commodore pulled over, soarer, and a skyline, just at the bus lane there..

Also thats where i got done once as well, even in my full hecktik non turbo bro.. they don't care apparently my P wasn't up even though it was.. just wrote a letter saying WTF? and got out of it. Driving normal too.

The whole of Knox man, but specifically the gauntlet (that section of traffic lights that 99% of the time you have to stop somewhere outside of Knox). I used to drive through there all the time with my Soarer, never got attention. And in a year of driving the R33, no worries either bar a couple of relatively unfair traffic infringements. But they will eventually get you on the defect. I drive through there at the moment but that's because I know I can thrust the defect/EPA notice in a cops face and say too late your colleague beat you to it f***face. Once the EPA is cleared I'll be avoiding at all costs.

High Street Rd, Stud Rd, Scoresby Rd, Ferntree Gully Rd...STAY AWAY!

    • As I've said elsewhere, I am using the stock intercooler piping path in the engine bay, and a return flow cooler, and making ~250 rwkW (without any effort put into trying to turn it up past there just yet) and expect to be able to make some more, and frankly, I would be perfectly happy with 260-270rwKW. This is peak road Skyline usability territory. You go past there and, sure, the car will snap necks more when it's on boost, but it will also break shit all the time, cost a (even larger) fortune in tyres, etc etc. Anyway, I also do not like the over-the-fan pipe path, and you don't have to do it.
    • I see, honestly I’m not too fussed about the looks. The only reason to go plenum is to make the piping easier instead of the classic over the rad etc.
    • Not easy to quantify wrt something like how many fractions of a second slower it would be over 0-100. But given that a 250-300rwkW car is able to do that launch sprint in 5-6 sec (and faster with appropriate tyres, and surface)..... giving up as much as a second would feel like torture. A ~450HP capable turbo is not going to make lots of boost in the 2000-3000 rpm range. So, whilst with some boost on hand it will be faster accelerating in that rev range than your engine currently is NA, it will not feel like a fast car until the boost is solidly in. You know what your car feels like right now when you open it up at 2000rpm. if you've ever been in an actual fast car, you will appreciate that the NARB25 is.... not exciting. Well, add some boost and it will be better. But shorten the intake runners and it might not be better at all. It might come out better, but it could end up feeling the same. For me, it's not the 0-X km/h sprints that matter. It is easy to fry the tyres with anything over 200 rwkW. You can't use all the power available in 1st and 2nd anyway, you have to modulate the throttle. What matters is how the car reacts when you're driving in traffic in 4th or 5th and have maybe 2000 rpm on board, and you want/need to add some speed quickly, and don't have time for the downshift. It won't make boost, it will be all NA (at the speeds we're talking about - remember how fast you're going at 2000 in 4th! and don't plan on breaking the limit by too much.) So giving away NA torque is not what I would consider practical for a street car. And retaining that NA torque builds boost faster which makes the car faster. The flashy plenum is not actually better, unless you're looking at a track car where you can keep it on the boil all the time.
    • So how much difference does it make you think? Like 1 second in the 0-100?  I was have smaller turbo so hopefully that spools quick GTX2871.  currently it’s NA so you can imagine pretty slow, but I do want fast accusation a little as there’s not many places I’ll be driving where I go over 80 even near me. So 0-60 and 0-80 targets
    • Short inlet runners cost quite a bit. Dulls off the off-boost torque, and delays boost onset, because arrival of boost is driven by gas flow is a product of the ability to flow air which is torque. This is the reason that the stock manifolds have longer runners. On a 3L, or bigger, you can usually accept the compromise of giving away some torque because the extra capacity gives you a little extra to waste. But on a smaller motor, there's not a lot there to start with. Example, I swapped RB20 out of my R32, 25NeoDET in its place. The "wall of torque" that I experienced afterwards made it all worthwhile. That's because I came from RB20 land where torque is not a thing. But I would not do anything, anything at all, to reduce the low/mid torque I have now, because I remember what it is like to not have it!
