Amazing work Ben, builds like this inspire me. Quick question, it appears you have a gloss finsh on the dash with the carbon fibre and a dry finsh with the centre console ( may just be the lighting ) Is there any tips to get the dry finsh ?

Cheers,

The pic must have been taken before we put the resin on it when it was sanded back, all of our carbon parts have had a clear coat of resin on them, not really sure how you would make it look like dry carbon.

Hi Guys,

Started the car today and had a few issues but eventually fired up. The Bloody Crank angle sensor shit itself so lucky mark had his old one from his GTR. Also had a Voltage drop on our injector supply and was only getting 9volts instead of 11.5volts and would not fire the injectors. Once the car was started we shut it down fairly quickly cause the V band clamp behind the turbo was leaking and we will buy a new clamp in the morning and chuck the car on the dyno. Here is a video enjoy!

are you going to put more boost into it?

also how did you run the motor in if its just been finished and put together?

i know with my motor they wanted me to do 2000 kms before having the full tune completed

Sorry guys had a miss print the end result for today was 800Hp at all 4 wheels @ 26-27psi @ 9000 rpm which approx 1000 flywheel hp, dyno sheet and videos will be put up as soon as i get home got a 12hr drive now yucky.gif, we ran the motor in on the dyno for about 50km on 98ron fuel than upped her.

50kms is enough time for everything to bed together?

Also from what I've read and been told by my own engine builder, you shouldnt run motors in on a dyno.

Not saying you dont know what your doing just going by my own experience.

There are a number of shops who do 50k's or so after a quick drive around the block to make sure of no leaks, then turn it up and give it back to the owner at full power :)

Mine was done like that, installed and started, check for leaks, 100k's of run in then booked for the dyno

yeah 2,000kms to run in before power tune is a waste of about 1,800kms in my opinion. but given I didn't build your engine you did the right thing in taking their advice.

also I dunno what's wrong with running in the engine on the dyno? it's fantastic. you don't have to go anywere, you can vary load and speed as you like. no time spent at red lights etc idling. no time spent on long constant speed and rpm sections of road, can run up to whatever speed you like, and since you are not driving you can keep a much better eye on the car temps etc. it's the best way to run it in in my opinion. but would get a bit expensive if you wanted to do 2,000kms of it!

well i was just going by what croydon told me to do,

they build heaps of motors and know there shit so i took there advice.

but yeh i guess everyone is different as to how they do things

    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
    • Well they got my money but they are not getting my gearbox !
    • It's needed for rolling idle up, and I think it is a decider on VCT also.
    • I mean, not really. Link ECU's can absolutely still have errors from the ECU thinking it's getting a sensor it's not expecting. I would imagine the speed at the ECU level in Nistune does absolutely nothing anyway? I assume the ECU does not do any fancy TC stuff with regards to front+rear wheel speed or anything of that like anyway. Someone who uses Nistune may be more fluent in it.
