As i was installing the plenum today, a problem came up, i have a R34 GTT, so i bought the AAC from a R33, a Q45 TB, and went to install them, BUT, i can't find nowhere what to do with the line that comes from the back of the valley cover(the one behind the cam gears), i believe that water runs through it but i am not sure what to do with it... Please someone help me...

Is it the water feed for the turbo?

if so, on the back of the thermostat housing is another outlet, that normally runs into the coolant bleeder than into the intake, then to the turbo (on an r33) I assume its the same for the NEO 6. so that turbo feed line will need to be Tee'd into there (depending on what you have done with the coolant bleed screw)

In this thread it says it is a vaccum line somewhere... that you disconect when you install rb26 cam covers..

So this was a vacuum line going to the power steering.. found it today..

Now i have another problem the R33 ACC is very different to the one of R34, the one has 2 connectors and the R34 one connector..

Please somebody who knows...

Has anyonw done back to backs with the greddy/freddy plenum?

Im considering one for my drift car but havet tested one myself

I'm pretty certain that there's a thread on FF plenums and several of the guys went backwards running one. The thread did center on the plazmaman iirc but doubt there'd be any difference. I'll see if I can dig the thread up and post it back here.

curious in results if you end up testing back to back....i thought about changing from my plazmaman due to the size but worried about lack of HP! i know the plazma will make power but not sure a greddy or copy would

The consensus is that the Greddy style ones will cost a (non RB26) RB low-mid torque and response in exchange for an increase in the top end that probably isn't worth it. The Plazmaman ones suffer a little less at the bottom end because they retain the longer original lower runners and also provide some increase at the top end.

The only real value is in being able to clear the top of the engine and run shorter intercooler piping - not that the shorter piping actually has that much effect, beyond placebo anyway.

Anyway, as has been said above, this has been thrashed to death in its own thread.

yeah, if you are aiming for high rev/boost/power setup its probably a good upgrade..though I have read of issues with leaning out on certain cylinders...the rear i think it was, I dont recall any "Factual evidence"

I think where they failed is people were slapping them on streeters thinking it was a huge upgrade but in reality it was pointless, with the only benefit being easier plug changes.. :rofl:...If its on high rev track car it probably wont do any harm...question is will it do any good on your specific setup...

Way i see it alot of big power setups use them so they cant be all bad...But on your drifter Jez (if thats what its for)...probably not worth the effort as you might gain a little up top and may lose low range torque and response..robbing Peter to pay Paul so to speak...

I bought one for my car but when I looked into it benefits (or lack thereof) and the effort involved in swapping it over , I sold it again

However if I had a huge turbo and planned to run 2 bar through it I would be more inclined put one on...

probably better to buy a blank plenum hat and start from scratch then...chop up stock manifold weld on tubes and hat...isnt that what hypertune do :unsure:

but what are you trying to acheive with it Jez, more power, better response...??

personally I think if you want more power just get the bigger turbo, (read t67 :P) throw a freddy on and crank up the boost...

if you want better "driveability" your time/money might be better spent adapting rb26 TBs.,, ...

Ramtubes in plenums are so completely overrated that I wouldn't bother. It is absolutely true that if you have a nice big fat plenum with simple holes into the runners that almost any ramtube will improve the flow rate into each runner. It is also true that you can choose the best ramtube (that would be the design that is rolled over so that you have a 1/2 donut shape lying on the floor of the plenum around each runner inlet) to maximise the benefit. But what is a major stumbling block is that it is not possible to make a nice big fat plenum to house these things in. The real world plenum on an inline 6 is constricted by the brake and/or clutch master cylinders and any other obstacles on that side of the engine. As such the side wall of the plenum opposite the inlet runners is already closer to the runners than you would like, and so sticking bellmouths up into the plenum space just steals from the room available for the air to make the turn into the runner.

It gets worse. 6 trumpets all in a row. All the air has to flow past all the trumpets to get to the last one. There will be wakes and eddies after each trumpet sticking up that affect the flow into the next one. Ramtubes only work well when you can get the air to flow towards each one of them as if it was the only one in the world. if you stick them in a row in a long plenum, then you have to start trying to fix the problems that they cause to each other (by other flow treatments inside the plenum) in order to get back to where you were before you had trumpets. Not worth the hassle.

If it were me, I would just the absolute minimum, which would be to either have a generous radius machined into the baseplate of the plenum where each runner starts, or put the half donut style bellmouths around each one. That last design would be, for say a 40-50mm runner diameter, probably mean that the donut would be maybe 15mm section thickness and therefore stand about 7.5mm proud of the baseplate. Would look a lot like this http://www.velocityf.../10950_WEBS.jpg with the back edge hard up against the baseplate. I'd remove the excess material from the back edge so that there was no parallel section, just radius.

have you seen the custom plenum made to address all the issues you mentioned...some guy did it and theres a thread on it, not sure if it was on this forum but its a crazy piece of work...I doubt the effort was worth it though...lets face it on a 30 yr old motor just about everything that can be done has been done....your really got to be pushing to find a newer/ better way...

    • Has equal chance of cleaning an AFM and f**king an AFM. I think you can work out what happened. When the Hitachi ECU sees the AFM die and goes into the associated limp mode, then it will start and run just fine, because it ignores the AFM and just runs on idle maps that will do what it needs to get it going. But there is no proper load signal, so that's about all it can do. My suggestion? If you don't want to go full aftermaket ECU, then get some R35 GTR AFM cards and some housings to put them in, in the stock location, and Nistune the ECU. Better to do a good upgrade than just replace shitty 40 year old tech with the same 40 year old tech.
    • So my car was recently having trouble starting on initial crank, I would need to feather the gas for it to start up but besides that it would start and run fine. So I clicked the idle air control valve (with throttle body cleaner) and cleaned the MAF sensors (with MAF cleaner). The start up issue was fixed and now the car turns over without the assist of the throttle, but the car is in limp mode and wont rev past 2.5k RPM. From what I understand the IACV would not put the car in limp mode, so I am to believe it is the MAF sensors, but it was running fine before and now I cant get it out of limp mode. I cleaned the MAF made sure the o rings were seated properly. Made sure the cables were plugged in properly, the cables also both read the same voltage. Does anybody know why this is or what could be causing this or how to get it out of limp mode?

    • That was the reason I asked. If you were going to be fully bodge spec, then that type of filler is the extreme bodge way to fill a large gap. But seeing as you're going to use glass sheet, I would only use that fibre reinforced filler if there are places that need a "bit more" after you've finished laying in the sheet. Which, ideally, you wouldn't. You might use a blob of it underneath the sheet, if you need to provide some support from under to keep the level of your sheet repair up as high as it needs to be, to minimise the amount of filler you need on top. Even though you're going bodge spec here, using glass instead of metal, the same rules apply wrt not having half inch deep filler on the top of the repair. Thick filler always ends up shitting the bed earlier than thin filler.
