Whilst it is nice you are quoting figures, I have say that Wikipedia is not what I would be quoting to back up performance figures.

Road tests for this car ranged from 4.3 to 4.5 (More commonly 4.5) for the 0 - 60 sprint.

Either way we are comparing vastly different cars, either way I would not be using Wiki for my sole resource as to what is right and wrong.

It wasn't a sole resource, merely an indicative example for all those bashing the 10yo F360 for being 'slow'. I also noted the record holder at WP.

Drive both and make your own assumptions. Who gives a sh.it about what some computer geek, who cant afford either car, writes on a forum? The majority of the people on the road could not GIVE A F.uCK what you drive. Never buy a car to get the look of others - buy a car to satisfy your own needs.

Whilst in Japan, get the Ferrari and buy the GTR when you're back in Australia when its about 80k. The 360 Modena will not go under 100k in 5 years, where the GTR could due to depreciation. Use your noggin and generate a depreciation chart, features vs benefits analysis of both to make an informed decision.

Alternatively, you can grey import F360s from the UK, SA, HK and ASIA for around 100k at todays prices. Australia has high car prices due to Luxury Car Tax an the fact that we are at the arse end of the world. LCT should be abolished - it is punishing people who have worked hard to earn a better ride with better safety features.

IMO the GTR will always be a Nissan regardless of its performance. Just like Lexus will always play second fiddle to the Euro Giants BMW and Merc in the luxury market, the prestige of the marque and 'badge' street cred will always have the euro cars higher than the Japanese cars. Both cars are special, but the F360 is sex on wheels and the GTR is a high performance gadget that will keep you amused for years.

I've owned and driven comparable lexus and BMW cars and Lexus has my vote for making a car that is not a POS, uses excellent materials and will last a long time - enough to hand down to your son. BMW make a nicely deigned car with some flawed engineering in the electronic and suspension department and their engines can be a bit fragile when pushed hard.

If you want to race and really daily drive a performance car - the GTR is something that should not let you down. The F360 is like an Italian Supermodel - always needs attention, money and work and doesnt want to be pushed hard without the right maintenance. Buy the one that suits our needs now and buy the other when you can afford it. Its a lot harder to make 100k the first time, but easier the 2nd and 3rd time.

Keep in mind that both cars will always be around and depreciate heavily - there is no great rush to get into it right now, especially with the improvements to the next gen GTR and hopefully a gearbox update.

Disclaimer: This is my e-opinion. If you disagree, tough. If you are dumb enough to argue about what someone else should buy for themselves, with their own money, my flame suit is waiting :D

Your name rings a bell...think I bought my Calibra off your sister Sally? Like 6 years ago lol?

Like many a thread in this section, and on this website for that matter, there wasn't really an answer to the OP's question...nor was much consideration going to be given towards our answers. So I don't think you need to tell him to do what he's already putting into practice, because it's more of a "look what I can buy proposition" than a question. And in return we get to feel important as if we're somehow influencing it :D

As for on the road...well it's true that other people don't actually care about the person driving it, only the car itself...but there's nothing wrong with buying a car to get the looks of others. For some that is their own need: the need for status. It's quite legitimate there are tons of people out there who utilise a car as an accessory (myself included) in the same way that we wear clothes (dress to impress etc.). But I agree with the rest of what you say about these cars and their values/purposes.

everyone on this forum buys a car partly due to how people will percieve them in the car..... if we didn't then we'd all be driving the cheapest reliable car money can buy (1970's carolla anyone?) you can make that go faster than anything, it does the job of A-B quite fine, and with some tinkering it can drift better than most mildly tuned S15's.

We are all influenced by peer pressure or how other people will perceive us, if we didn't we wouldn't have an economy or society like we do today.

And if anyone says otherwise tell them Uncle Tom said to stop being knobs

Can't say that I share that opinion Tom and I am pretty sure there are a few others that would also disagree.

Now, I don't drive a Ferrari, Porsche, Maserati or the like and I couldn't give 2 ounces of bat shit what anyone thinks about my car.

I bought my Stagea because I wanted a reasonably fun turbo charged car that is practical and has AWD.

If I was interested in status, I would have bought an Autech 260RS as it is known as a "GTR Wagon".

If I influenced by peer pressure, I would have bought an RB powered C34 Stagea.

Turns out a bought my car because it suited my needs perfectly, I like how it looks and I much preferred the interior over the older models and Toyota Caldina.

Maybe if less people were influenced by peer pressure or how others perceive them, society on the whole would be much more interesting.

if i wasn't interested in status and i had a choice of a stagea for performance, practicality and AWD, i'd choose a subaru liberty mainly because you'll always find parts and it has all the things the stagea has for a much better price (not saying the subaru is better, but it ticks the same boxes). Does exactly the same job, but even if your not consciously thinking it or want to admit it, there are a few cars that are on par with the stagea in every respect.... only difference is they are more rare and you would always know you are one of a few...

there will be people who say they don't give a shit what other people think, but let me ask you, why an import car when their are suitable alternative already in the country? do you own any brand named things that you could have got much cheaper without the brand name being on the product like Nike or logitech?

It's not an attack on you, but in reality very very few people don't give a shit what other people think about them, the people that truely don't care what peers think of them are literally the people you don't see, they have no need to be seen by other people. the car is an extension of a persons personality if you like it or not, the only reason we get haircuts and look in a mirror every now and then is to make sure you don't look like an idiot to the greater majority.

Everybody cares what other people think about themselves, the only difference is the degree of how much it controlls their lives.

Also thats the main reason the economy has been going shit the last couple of years, but its also why the economy was going great for the 10 years prior and will probably go great again for another 10 years after...

Peer pressure isn't always a bad thing, if there weren't laws, what would stop you from punching your next door neighbour in the face? The fact that other people may not stand for it, they will think differently of you? sure its an exageration, and their are plenty of other factors, but peers are an influence, and always have been since nomadic tribes of human beings...

Thats the fact

Whilst the Liberty is a nice car, the model I liked at the time came with a higher price tag. The other issue stopping me from buying one is I have never really been a huge fan of Subaru's (just a personal thing).... Can't think of another turbo AWD wagon around the 20k mark that was AUS delivered.

To (sorta) answer your question, it is not a price tag point. I am much more interested in the quality of the product, what goes into it and how suitable it is for what I will be using it for.

No Logitech in my house and I think I only have 1 Nike T-shirt :)

Can't really think of any brand name I would buy just to have/wear that brand name.... Nope, not one, and I actually did think about that one for a while.

That's cool, didn't take it as an attack.

Help me understand, what do you mean by "the people that truely don't care what peers think of them are literally the people you don't see"?

Just because you are "seen" by others doesn't mean you have a need to be "seen".

I do agree very much that a car is an extension of a persons personality. All the more reason for people to buy what they want and not what will make their peers jealous... unless or course, that is what gets them off.

lol... Haircuts? nah, just get the Mrs to shave it as I just don't see the point of going to a hairdresser/barber.... Maybe I am missing something?

My own morality.

I am a pretty laid back guy and will tolerate a lot, but if I am given reason enough to punch my neighbour in the face, then a punch to the face he will get.

I understand what you are saying with this example, Tom but the decision would be based on my perception of the situation and certainly not on what others may think.

Cannot argue with your fact, but I feel that for the vast majority it is a shame that it is so.

Having said that, there have always been "outcasts" which, in certain times were merely free thinkers/believers who bucked the ideals of the time.

Without excessive peer influence, maybe there would have been more of this throughout history let alone in society today?

hahaha all good, guess you could very well fit into the "outcasts" as you put it. I don't know you and have never met you so I was only having to try and find the most common ways people express how they want to be seen by others but wouldn't really think of it like they are trying to, like haircuts and what not... I wouldn't call those types of people outcasts though... as you said, if society wasn't so obsessed about other people, we would most probably be living in a much better world than we are at the moment.

For thousands of years humans have been obsessed with how others see themselves, it is very very mainstream so many generations down the track...

Oh and I was refereing to the monks and nuns who are the people who really don't care how they are seen by mortal humans, they only tend to care what God, Budda, Ganesh ect... think of them.

So basically we are both right, just depends on how you view certain things in life aye?

lmao yeah right they'd probably mistake a ferrari for a camry hey.... lmao you cant be serious :P

if a woman doesn't know what a Ferrari is, then she's not of legal age lol, and get the hell out of there...

Yes the R35 is good value compared to other new supercars, but if you want real value get a $18k R32 gtr, throw $50-70k into it, for under 100k it WILL eat anything else on the road lol, all depends if you want a stupidly fast car, or a fast car with class

Yeah in a straight line the R32 GTR will beat the R35 GTR but not on the track. At sandown a multitude of quick cars had a go at an R35 GTR including big hp R32 and R33 GTR's and they were no match for the R35 GTR.

but an r32 with a driver that can handle it, right suspension set up can beat an r35 around the track, all depends who is driving what and how heavily modded they are (and if they are set up good).

But on the whole any idiot can jump into the r35 and look decent driving it since all you have to do is steer it and the car does the rest, not really that fun though, the bullet trains are fun and fast the first time you go on them, then after a while they are boring and predictable. Still bloody fast but boring

    • Hey Dave, welcome aboard! Good to see another soon-to-be Stagea owner here. The wagons are awesome — plenty of space, still got that Skyline DNA, and loads of potential if you’re into mods. Definitely post up pics when you get it, everyone here loves seeing new builds. What model/year are you looking at?
    • See if you can thermal epoxy a heatsink or two onto it?
    • The other problem was one of those "oh shit we are going to die moments". Basically the high spec Q50s have a full electric steering rack, and the povo ones had a regular hydraulic rack with an electric pump.  So couple of laps into session 5 as I came into turn 2 (big run off now, happily), the dash turned into a christmas tree and the steering became super heavy and I went well off. I assumed it was a tyre failure so limped to the pits, but everything was OK. But....the master warning light was still on so I checked the DTCs and saw – C13E6 “Heat Protection”. Yes, that bloody steering rack computer sitting where the oil cooler should be has its own sensors and error logic, and decided I was using the steering wheel too much. I really appreciated the helpful information in the manual (my bold) POSSIBLE CAUSE • Continuing the overloading steering (Sports driving in the circuit etc,) “DATA MONITOR” >> “C/M TEMPERATURE”. The rise of steering force motor internal temperature caused the protection function to operate. This is not a system malfunction. INSPECTION END So, basically the electric motor in the steering rack got to 150c, and it decided to shut down without warning for my safety. Didn't feel safe. Short term I'll see if I can duct some air to that motor (the engine bay is sealed pretty tight). Long term, depending on how often this happens, I'll look into swapping the povo spec electric/hydraulic rack in. While the rack should be fine the power supply to the pump will be a pain and might be best to deal with it when I add a PDM.
    • And finally, 2 problems I really need to sort.  Firstly as Matt said the auto trans is not happy as it gets hot - I couldn't log the temps but the gauge showed 90o. On the first day I took it out back in Feb, because the coolant was getting hot I never got to any auto trans issues; but on this day by late session 3 and then really clearly in 4 and 5 as it got hotter it just would not shift up. You can hear the issue really clearly at 12:55 and 16:20 on the vid. So the good news is, literally this week Ecutek finally released tuning for the jatco 7 speed. I'll have a chat to Racebox and see what they can do electrically to keep it cooler and to get the gears, if anything. That will likely take some R&D and can only really happen on track as it never gets even warm with road use. I've also picked up some eye wateringly expensive Redline D6 ATF to try, it had the highest viscosity I could find at 100o so we will see if that helps (just waiting for some oil pan gaskets so I can change it properly). If neither of those work I need to remove the coolant/trans interwarmer and the radiator cooler and go to an external cooler....somewhere.....(goodbye washer reservoir?), and if that fails give up on this mad idea and wait for Nissan to release the manual 400R
    • So, what else.... Power. I don't know what it is making because I haven't done a post tune dyno run yet; I will when I get a chance. It was 240rwkw dead stock. Conclusion from the day....it does not need a single kw more until I sort some other stuff. It comes on so hard that I could hear the twin N1 turbos on the R32 crying, and I just can't use what it has around a tight track with the current setup. Brakes. They are perfect. Hit them hard all day and they never felt like having an issue; you can see in the video we were making ground on much lighter cars on better tyres under brakes. They are standard (red sport) calipers, standard size discs in DBA5000 2 piece, Winmax pads and Motul RBF600 fluid, all from Matty at Racebrakes Sydney. Keeping in mind the car is more powerful than my R32 and weighs 1780, he clearly knows his shit. Suspension. This is one of the first areas I need to change. It has electronically controlled dampers from factory, but everything is just way too soft for track work even on the hardest setting (it is nice when hustling on country roads though). In particular it rolls into oversteer mid corner and pitches too much under hard braking so it becomes unstable eg in the turn 1 kink I need to brake early, turn through the kink then brake again so I don't pirouette like an AE86. I need to get some decent shocks with matched springs and sway bars ASAP, even if it is just a v1 setup until I work out a proper race/rally setup later. Tyres. I am running Yoko A052 in 235/45/18 all round, because that was what I could get in approximately the right height on wheels I had in the shed (Rays/Nismo 18x8 off the old Leaf actually!). As track tyres they are pretty poor; I note GTSBoy recently posted a porker comparo video including them where they were about the same as AD09.....that is nothing like a top line track tyre. I'll start getting that sorted but realistically I should get proper sized wheels first (likely 9.5 +38 front and 11 +55 at the rear, so a custom order, and I can't rotate them like the R32), then work out what the best tyre option is. BTW on that, Targa Tas had gone to road tyres instead of semi slicks now so that is a whole other world of choices to sort. Diff. This is the other thing that urgently needs to be addressed. It left massive 1s out of the fish hook all day, even when I was trying not too (you can also hear it reving on the video, and see the RPM rising too fast compared to speed in the data). It has an open diff that Infiniti optimistically called a B-LSD for "Brake Limited Slip Diff". It does good straight line standing start 11s but it is woeful on the track. Nismo seem to make a 2 way for it.
