SO here I am again, trying to decide what to buy for $15,000 this time.

I was thinking R34, manual, turbo as they are newer and just feel 'sturdier' than a R32 (no R33's thanks).

Look on carsales...hardly anything..and same with these forums.

I thought they were cheaper than that?

I guess I thought wrong :D

I could get a R32 GTR, but to find one in GREAT condition that hasn't been as pounded as Heather Hunter would be pretty hard.

R32 GTR...or R34??

R34 in white or black...hottt, especially with a 'mild' body kit.

someone help!

stagea? i picked up my rs4s for under that and its factory manual (r33 gtr gearbox and diffs) with the rb25 neo (r34 motor)

just keep an eye out for bargins and look at cars in the price range above yours (i.e. 20k) its amazing how much ppl will drop the price if they have to sell

Whatever you pick up...

December & January are the best months to pick up a bargain...

whether it be from 'private' or 'dealer'.

Notwithstanding that, you still need to do all your homework as you inspect - don't rush!

R34 GT-t sedan MIGHT be possible, otherwise you're dreaming if you want a decent manual coupe. Same with a decent R32 GT-R. If you want something in mint condition, get an R33.

If you want something decent, definitely stay away from an R32 GT-R with your price range. You may be lucky to get a clean exterior one, but more than likely motor will be shot, and there may be other problems, meaning, big $$$.

As others have said, for 15k you'd be better off looking at a 33. Or save for a bit longer and buy an R34 like you want

xmas spirit bitch.. time for giving lol

lol

Theres a schmick 5 spd GTT down the road from me at some compliance joint, they are asking 19. Finding a good one for 15 may be time consuming but not impossible.

32 GTR at 15k will be a turd. You're in a shit situation really because you're at the bottom end of the market with your budget. The only Skyline that you will find in decent condition for 15k will be an R33 which you don't want. If you haven't already, go out and drive an R33 and then decide. If you don't like the 33 keep saving for a 34 or 32.

i doubt you can get a r34 for $15,000 unless there was something wrong with it.

back in the day i bought my r33 for exactly $15,000 standard except the exhaust, always garaged pretty much mint condition not a scratch.

that was until i got caught in a hail storm :D

got any other cars for trade-in? best bet would be to go to a dealer and state you got 15k and that's it.. see if they take it or not.. i'm doubtful, but if you got another car for trade-in then you may be lucky

a mate of mine just bought an R34 GTT with alot of brand name goodies on it for $16,500

PFC

HDC coilovers

Greddy EBC

Greddy FMIC

HKS BOV

Defi Guages

etc

but u get what you pay for cuz as soon as he got it... his tranny gave him problems... his tune is farked we think as the car just stalls when u put it in neutral...

bottom line... save up a bit more and get yr car inspected before you buy because you really do get what you pay for

is the BOV atmo? if so, tell him to try the stocker one.. i had problems with stalling when i pressed clutch.. car would stall.. happened after i installed PFC.. due to incorrect readings i think.. worth a shot b4 forking out for a tune

thanks for the replies guys

Im gonna give R32's a miss, GTR or not.

Having driven a few of them, they actually FEEL 20 years old, and everything rattles, car feels like its gonna fall apart.

I'll either save for a R34, or just by another Rexy and be done with it

    • And if you want more power, more reliably, and cheaper, go get the Aussie RB... The 4L Barra and put that in instead.
    • No cats will keep discolouring the rear bar. Sends white paint a weird yellow stain. Cut and polish normally gets it out, but you'll be doing that every fortnight I found.
    • Both heads will be equally reliable or unreliable depending on what you do to them.  Stock the RB26 head will flow more. You have access to the stock intake ITB manifold on the RB26 cheaply which flows really well(1000hp+).   Arguably more aftermarket support for RB26, though in Aus we love our RB30 SOHC heads too.    The only downsides to the RB26 head is if you have a VL commodore and want to keep the SOHC look.  Where you may have an issue is drilling out the rb30 block for the bigger head studs but if you are building a big power motor you'd probably put bigger studs on the SOHC head too.  This is just about finding a good machine shop, sometimes easier said than done.  RB30 head worked can make big power just like a Rb26 head, so really it actually more comes down to what your preference is for your car.  People now even making billet versions of both.
    • 2630s work perfectly well. There is something to be said for just using the 30 head, as it saves all the pain of the conversion, still makes tons of power, still sounds cool, etc etc. 2630 will obviously make more power again, but the differences are not stupidly big. It really depends on whether you're racing for sheep stations or not. If it's dead serious, then it's a 26 head. If it's just for fun, it could go either way. But the 26 head and the effort to get it set up, etc etc, is part of the fun.
    • I've been building a 26/30 for a few years now. I've had the head built with all the good stuff. I had a 32 gtr but blew it up and yes its all going into a vl but im looking for some advice from some RB nuts on pros and cons on putting a 26 head on a 30 bottom end is it worth it Works are as follows Head -Extensive porting 1mm oversized supertech valves Supertech double springs Supertech valve guides Supertech titanium retainers Tomei solid lifters Tomei 270 x 10.25 cams Head drain Bottom end series 2 rb30 block Cp ceramic coated pistons Eagle rods Romac balancer Oil restrictions  O ringed blah blah spent a fortune And will get a girdle because the 30s arent used to handling that much rpm Nitto billet oil pump Hypertune plenum 6boost mani Refurbed astra pump thats the cover for it in the boot I did have a precision 6262 but sold it because drag car life. Currently building the ass end full 4 link floater rear end with a 2 speed  But the dilemma i have is my mate rekens I should just stick with the 30 head for reliability. Has any one had any issues with mounting the 26 head ie compression blowing gaskets etc. Just looking for some advice from people who have gone down this route. Here's some photos. Blew the oil pump in the gtr and decided to rip the motor out at the time and do a full build only to find it had been a repairable write off so went down this path.
