is there anyway to drive turbo on p's in nsw and if so how long is the suspension plus fine and demerit points?

is it easy to get a license in qld? and drive the turbo in nsw what do you need to prove in qld a residence?

exemption hard to get if its not work related?

Mate we all know its suks to be unable to drive a car with a turbo but just have some fun with a nonturbo for now im sure u can get a nice v-tec these days they go ok for a non turbo... wait out ur probation..! u dont want cop trouble..

I couldnt agree more with post above ... wait !!! ... these rules have been enforced because it was decided that "generally" there isnt a " P " plate driver alive with enough driving knowledge & experience to adequately handle & operate a motor vehicle of above average performance let alone one capable of being modified to deliver massive power to the rear wheels ... (some young drivers who have undertaken extensive & expensive advanced driver training exlcluded) ... these rules & regulations that have been adopted & passed as law since the recent influx of turbo charged cars have been especially put there for "P" platers not because the authorities hate you but because theyd actually like you to live long enough & gain the neccesary driving skills & confidence that can only be gained over time ... they also had the forsight to realise that these second hand R32 & R33 Skylines would soon dramatically drop in value making them easily affordable to "P" platers with little or no real driving experience ... ive had my drivers license for 32 years ... my car is close to 300kW at the rear wheels ... its NOT 4 wheel drive & has NO ABS ... its "practically" impossible to drive effectively in the rain or on a slippery surface ... the thought of a driver with little or no real experience getting into it on a rainy day makes it ever so clear to me why these laws have been passed ... not too sure if you recall back in 2004 when a "P" plate driver got into his dads blue R34 GTR when his dad was overseas ... took his mate & his pregnant girlfriend for a spin down the street ... he managed to tear the entire car into 2 pieces ... which youd think would be quite difficult ... though very easy when you mix inexperience with big power ... they all died ... sadly ... PLEASE wait & enjoy a non turbo car while you gain the experience to handle more challenges that a turbo will throw at you ... my daily driver is a Nissan Micra 4 cylinder 1275cc lowered / sports springs & shocks / bigger sway bars / extractors / 2 in straight through exhaust / high flow cat / cold air induction / pod filter ... unbeatable in the traffic ... 750KG ... power to weight ... AWESOME !!! ... sounds siiick too !! ... :cheers: ...

If i was making the decisions in relation to "P"platers driving turbo cars on limited budgets id make the minimum age 28 or 10 years driving experience ... :santa: ...

All the money youll save in fines by abiding by the laws will pay for a fantastic NA sports car ... :) ...

The suspension is however long it is when you lose all your points... I don't remember the exact value of the fine but it is in excess of $600. It is a 7 point demerit.

To prove you have QLD residency you will need a QLD licence. To prove you have residency I imagine you will need some paperwork proving you live in QLD like a bank statement in your name or something... I don’t imagine a policeman officer accepting anything other than a QLD licence should one pull you over.

From what I have heard it is easy to get the exemption if you have a legitimate requirement to drive a prohibited vehicle. If you don't have a legitimate requirement, you won't get an exemption.

If you want a fast P plater vehicle, look into a V35 350GT. More powerful, economical and comfortable than a R33 GTS-t.

I remember that accident very very well, the car was ripped in two, each piece was 50 metres apart, with the engine OUT of the car on the road........ a sad day indeed.

Everyone needs a "starting car". You cant have your first car as a super dooper amazing car, as you'll never be able to upgrade. Half the fun and experience is upgrading your car/cars over the years. Although two guys at my old school had their Dads buy them Porsches, so its a bit hard to upgrade from that!!!!

My first car was a 1992 Camry Station Wagon, then FWD Celica with tons of mods, now turbo R33 with 250rwkw, and the upgrading continues.....

there are ways in NSW to get exemptions while your on Green P's only..... friend of mine did it only recently, cost him under $50 for the exemption. They gave it to him because he was one of the few who went through their reds without any hassel.

I'll send him this thread and see if he contributes to this.

Looks like a new mines datsun man in the making. 350 gt's are probably a bit pricey for someone of that age unless he is loaded. Get a S2 Rx7 with a 13b peripheral port.

Isn't peripheral porting a 13b modifying the engine? If so than it's no good I'm afraid :cheers:

i had the same trouble when getting my bike licence... i was restricted to L plater legal bikes... aka... crap. or so i thought.. i tried every angle to get around it, couldnt be done without just risking it and going out on a big bike and hoping for the best. and i have been riding motocross bikes since i was a wee fella.

doing all the research, i ended up with a little aprillia rs125.... top speed... 130km/hr. one day i went for a quick ride on a mates cbr929 fireblade.. which will eat 130km/hr in second gear.. it was just plain scary.. my brain couldnt handle the severe acceleration and obscene speed and everything was literally a blur.. youd just get a grip on where you were on a straight, and a corner would jump up out of nowhere... sure you'd get used to it, but where do you go then??.. whereas my aprilia with its severe lack of weight and revvy nature was just plain fun, i could ring it out and feel like i was going fast... but only be just over the speed limit.. i could rev it out and launch it without worrying about it wheelstanding or flipping out.

to say the least, im on the lookout for another aprilia rs125..

you dont need power to have fun, you dont need a turbo to have fun. :)

all you need is a decent chassis, good brakes, good suspension, and good tyres. :)

    • For once a good news  It needed to be adjusted by that one nut and it is ok  At least something was easy But thank you very much for help. But a small issue is now(gearbox) that when the car is stationary you can hear "clinking" from gearbox so some of the bearing is 100% not that happy... It goes away once you push clutch so it is 100% gearbox. Just if you know...what that bearing could be? It sounding like "spun bearing" but it is louder.
    • Yeah, that's fine**. But the numbers you came up with are just wrong. Try it for yourself. Put in any voltage from the possible range and see what result you get. You get nonsense. ** When I say "fine", I mean, it's still shit. The very simple linear formula (slope & intercept) is shit for a sensor with a non-linear response. This is the curve, from your data above. Look at the CURVE! It's only really linear between about 30 and 90 °C. And if you used only that range to define a curve, it would be great. But you would go more and more wrong as you went to higher temps. And that is why the slope & intercept found when you use 50 and 150 as the end points is so bad halfway between those points. The real curve is a long way below the linear curve which just zips straight between the end points, like this one. You could probably use the same slope and a lower intercept, to move that straight line down, and spread the error out. But you would 5-10°C off in a lot of places. You'd need to say what temperature range you really wanted to be most right - say, 100 to 130, and plop the line closest to teh real curve in that region, which would make it quite wrong down at the lower temperatures. Let me just say that HPTuners are not being realistic in only allowing for a simple linear curve. 
    • I feel I should re-iterate. The above picture is the only option available in the software and the blurb from HP Tuners I quoted earlier is the only way to add data to it and that's the description they offer as to how to figure it out. The only fields available is the blank box after (Input/ ) and the box right before = Output. Those are the only numbers that can be entered.
    • No, your formula is arse backwards. Mine is totally different to yours, and is the one I said was bang on at 50 and 150. I'll put your data into Excel (actually it already is, chart it and fit a linear fit to it, aiming to make it evenly wrong across the whole span. But not now. Other things to do first.
    • God damnit. The only option I actually have in the software is the one that is screenshotted. I am glad that I at least got it right... for those two points. Would it actually change anything if I chose/used 80C and 120C as the two points instead? My brain wants to imagine the formula put into HPtuners would be the same equation, otherwise none of this makes sense to me, unless: 1) The formula you put into VCM Scanner/HPTuners is always linear 2) The two points/input pairs are only arbitrary to choose (as the documentation implies) IF the actual scaling of the sensor is linear. then 3) If the scaling is not linear, the two points you choose matter a great deal, because the formula will draw a line between those two points only.
