i get my Ps in march and my parents have gave me 15000 to spend on a car but don't know what to get . i need something an alright sized boot and not to expensive to run and maintain

vz commy wagon , huge boot, and if you been drinking just crash in the back..

fuel bills are ok if you drive it normally, drive it like a hoon and there not real good

Mate save your 15K until you are off your P's ( I know it sounds painful ) and then go splurge on an R33 GTST

lol a 33? By then a 34 should be within his price range unless for some reason car value depreciation just completely stops.

15k why are they giving you so much for a first car i reckon everyone should have to drive a shitter as a first car it's mad fun don't have to care about it :)

Yeah true that, and theres nothing better than shitter races at the lights, neither of em can break the speed limit and feels so good when you beat a better car in your shitbox, but its more fun racing other shitters..Its like real racing in slow motion......My first car was a 120y. got it for a slab of VB...

for a start I reckon Honda intergra and civic with Vtec engine will be quite a good choice.

After you had got used to front wheel drive, then you might want to try RWD.

lol he says he needs a decent boot, must be a drummer or something i guess.

Just get a tight ass $2000-$3000 something, it will get scratched in parking lots taken off road for one reason or another, then afterwards get something decent. for the near future you'll probably have drunk mates riding in it at some time spilling crap all over the car, being douchebags in there, having a lady friend or 2 dirtying up the car :) (well thats how the first year or 2 was like in my car).then later on get something smaller and sportier when you get sick of being the dezzy driver or sick of the herpes clinic jkz)

Up to you depends what you are expecting out of the car? What are you going to use it for?

The teenager with a working class background in me says "get something cheap, you spoilt brat with rich parents". The father in me says "get something fairly new, safe and economical, you lucky boy to have parents who care enough and have the means to buy you something decent".

Don't get a powerful car, but, likewise don't get something that doesn't steer or brake very well as they can be death traps too.

Why do you need a big boot? If you don't need the space that often, maybe you're better off getting something smaller and a cheap trailer, roof racks or a pod.

240 VOLVO WAGON!

Massive boot.

Safer than a tank.

Get a shitter at first.

Stick the rest of the money in a high intrest savings account.

And hopefully in a couple of years you might see another 15 odd grand again.

Then, if you still need a big boot, Stagea.

I wouldn't spend 15k on your first car. Spend maybe 5k max and save the rest for your next car, just buy a cheap commo wagon or twin cam corolla, something cheap and realiable.

But if you really wanna spend the 15k get a ae86 or maybe a type r integra, you'd be surprised at how big the boot on a ae86 is. Much fun can be had in a ae86 trust me.

i dont see the point in getting a car worth 15k for a first car.

being a noob and all your most likely going to ding it,

I advise buying something for around 4-5k which is still plently imo for a decent p plater car. I had a r31 on P's...cheap as f**k and never missed a beat.

It really comes down to a lot more than just, needing a boot and being cheap to run...

There are so many factors that you haven't listed that we all know are necessary to think about.

Do u want it to feel fast at all?

Rear, AWD or Front wheel drive?

Are u going to use it for work?

Planning on putting cheap petrol or willing to put in 95+?

4 door? Coupe? is it JUST the boot u need to be big?

Those are just some of the questions that first jump to mind, there are HUNDREDS more...

My suggestions would be:

Sporty, low maintenance, S13 Silvia

Though insurance could be a little expensive, but it seems like those are minuscule costs based on spending $15,000

I am 17, so I don't have as much experience as many of the other people here, so don't take my word as best advice.

Buy something cheap, manual , low maintenance and learn how to drive better from there. You dont wanna have learning accidents in a 15 grand car.

I'd get an NA silvia or an old supra if u still wanna go for a sporty car

i had a 2003 corolla sportivo, 141kw, very reliable and economical, reasonably quick for a 1.8, I think they go for around 15k now or less for an 03/04 model, the rear seats can be folded down

for a fairly large rear storage area.

i'm also pretty sure they p plate friendly.

good luck with the purchase

as i have said in pretty much every thread on this topic, N15 SSS. fast (enough), reliable, handles well, runs cheap. and will also cost you well under 15k for a tidy one.

or what doozooby said above, but good luck finding one for 15k, LOL

LOL!

I never got a penny off my parents for a new machine!

Go save up for an R34 GTT, in the mean-time just get a boxy-econo machine until then :woot:

    • Look for broken wire or bad connector at the motor. Might not be it, but is worth starting there, as it is easy.
    • Hi everyone, I’m having an issue with my R32 GT-R. Sometimes, when the car goes over a bump or experiences some vibration, the 4WD warning light comes on the dashboard. When I check the code from the control unit in the trunk, it shows Code 19 – ETS Motor. However, everything seems to be working fine — if I turn off the engine and restart the car, the light goes away and everything functions normally. Has anyone experienced this before? Where should I start troubleshooting this issue? Thanks in advance!
    • I'm back from the dyno - again! I went looking for someone who knew LS's and had a roller dyno, to see how it shaped up compared to everything else and confirm the powerband really is peaking where Mr Mamo says it should. TLDR: The dyno result I got this time definitely had the shape of how it feels on the road and finally 'makes sense'. Also we had a bit more time to play with timing on the dyno, it turns out the common practice in LS is to lower the timing around peak torque and restore it to max after. So given a car was on the dyno and mostly dialled in already, it was time for tweaking. Luis at APS is definitely knowledgable when it came to this and had overlays ready to go and was happy to share. If you map out your cylinder airmass you start seeing graphs that look a LOT like the engine's torque curve. The good thing also is if you map out your timing curve when you're avoiding knock... this curve very much looks like the inverse of the airmass curve. The result? Well it's another 10.7kw/14hp kw from where I drove it in at. Pretty much everywhere, too. As to how much this car actually makes in Hub Dyno numbers, American Dyno numbers, or Mainline dyno numbers, I say I don't know and it's gone up ~25kw since I started tinkering lol. It IS interesting how the shorter ratio gears I have aren't scaled right on this dyno - 6840RPM is 199KMH, not 175KMH. I have also seen other printouts here with cars with less mods at much higher "kmh" for their RPM due Commodores having 3.45's or longer (!) rear diff ratios maxing out 4th gear which is the 1:1 gear on the T56. Does this matter? No, not really. The real answer is go to the strip and see what it traps, but: I guess I should have gone last Sunday...
    • 310mm rotors will be avilable from Australia, Japan, and probably a few other places. Nothing for the front can be put on the back.
