your name is Richard. you cant get much more gay than that...... ive tried...... and you just cant.

Have you looked in the mirror? Obviously you haven't tried that or you wouldn't have said that^^^^!

small update. im not sure what the end result will be but at the moment the head is off and stripped down. being a 25de head i cant just buy off the shelf valve springs so i have to remove the stocker and measure them up compared to others.

DSC03117.jpg

DSC03120.jpg

and ive started restoring some new old rims for my 4 door. should give it the old school look im after with it.

DSC03118.jpg

RB20 valve springs are the way to go. I have a set of Tomei solid lifters and springs for the RB20, it all bolts into the RB25 DE head. So if the RB25 sux will be easy to put into an RB30 (heaven forbid  ) Well at least thats what i read on the internetz so it cant be wrong :D

Sometimes, i have bought two sets...as they come up sometimes realy cheap. I paid very litle for new Tomei 2.4L pistons, springs and solid lifters. The second set of RB20 solid Tomei lifters i got with my cheap ass Tomei cams. Nobody wants or can get good money for RB20 gear so can get the stuff cheap :(

whats that. your shipping ma some free lifters and cams?

i had a think about it yesterday and wondered why all the 25/30 crew hadent had thid issue then i remembered reading in the rb25/30 how to guide about putting somthing other then stock in. will have to re read it.

i did however mention that fact to my engine builder at the time and he said not to funk with it so i didnt. anyway im pretty sure were on the right path now so its just a matter of getting what i need and slapping it back together.

its been a busy week. Ben and i got all of the body wiring done on his car. and a big start on the ABS wiring.

i dragged the new 4 door in for what was ment to be just a lowering job. the aim with this new car is just to be a streeter and to only utilize parts that we have laying around or that are avalible vai horse trade.

lowering went. found climb gear struts in the front. put kings super lows in the front. way to low. 320mm ride. then pedders in the back. way to high. "modified" the rears. then it sat ok. 335ish. then stripped a pair or Tanabe GTR shocks and used the shoter than stock springs in the front. 340mm but still a bit high and probably way to heavy on the spring rate.

the aftermath of lowering stage 1

DSC03127.jpg

then thought id fit up a new cat. removed old one and wondered why the exhaust bracket didnt conect to the gearbox like usual. found that it is most likely a r33 exhaust bracket. cracked the shits and tried to find a r32 one in all of our spares. couldnt find one so went onto biger things.

DSC03130.jpg

also found at the above point that the turbo was hanging on by 2 loose nuts. (should have just tightened them) decided to remove the turbo. broke the 2 coolant banjo fitting as they were old and coroded. pulled the exhaust manifold off to expose the 4 broken exhaust manifold studs.

DSC03133.jpg

removed them tonight and got got the r33 turbo ready to go on.

DSC03129.jpg

oh and fitted the 2nd pair of rims for the 4 door. 17x 9.5 work equips. the guards need a slight roll .

DSC03122.jpg

they need a clean up like the other 2 but that will come later.

DSC03121.jpg

oh and i spent most of last night playing around with the head off the race car. measuring all sorts of things to try and solve our problem. My Tuner has been grate with my head float problem and has been sending me MMS's of the kind to rectify "head" issues. but on a serious note i had a set of tomei springs lent to me to test with a bunch of others and the option was to go for some genuine nissan ones slightly modified as it cost a quarter of the price of the tomei's. one thing we learnt thoe was the tomei stuff has excelent heat caracteristics.

DSC03126.jpg

parts have been ordered for the head and i supose it should be back together within a week.

If you are serious then i think we can come up with something regarding the second set of solid lifters that i have. The cams that come with them are mysetery Tomeis. I am hoping they are 260/10.25, but all i know is that they are 10.25mm lift....no idea of duration. If the duration is too big for the lil 20 then i will be getting rid of them. All your id you are interested. Looking at the pictures I am expecting they will need a linish as they look to have been left in the open and have some evidence of surface rust...thogh hard to tell in poor quality pics. I alslo have some RB26 titanium retainers, have no idea if they work with the RB20 valve and springs.

If you find the RB25DE springs are the same as the RB20DET, then they are also the same as VG30DETT and you can get sets of those real cheap out of the US

yea right well i went for nissan ones and theya re already here. the springs are the same id and od as even the rb25det ones so i just got some of them as they were the right spec for what i wanted.

thanks for the offer. benny might take you up on that as hes the one with all the Jue gold.

Dude, sweet build! Love all the DIY stuff. It will be interesting to see how those suspension mods pan out when you get around to actually using that modified subframe.

will the lifters work with any solid lifter style cam? do they need machining to go in?

What are you askign me for? I need to see if my inley will botl up to the NEO head, if so i will use R34 GTT cams, (possibly looking at HKS V-Cam cams pr cutoms) otherwise will jus go Tomei 260/10.25 cams. I belive these drop in and work with the std valves, only thing is the high lify cams may need relieving against the std head.

But wont know until its all done...i am thinking Bullet in SA will be the go for the headwork, but just so hard to trust someone...everyone is an expoert and offers different porting advice.

Another twist in my Fun car project. its now been locked away in storage for the next 6 months or so. im a bit over it and i need to actualy save some big cash to spend on this and have a bit of a think about what i want to do with it. 100% drifter or still a 50/50 drifter/track.

anyway before we parked it up we robbed some parts off it for the current project.

im tidying up a mates Pig drift 32. hes the 3rd owner and its been drifted for about 4 years with little maintinace. i does now sport a built engine with 3076R.

If we get it running 100% in the next few weeks ill be having a drive of it at the sep 11 drift event.

DSC03163.jpg

the first thing we robbed was the diff. the Pig as ill call it has had a whining diff for about 4 years so you can imagine what it soulds like now. while mines in there we will get the other rebuilt and put it in at a later date.

DSC03164.jpg

its a bit dirty at the moment but it does have a nice set of Meisters. the rears currently wont fit under the guards.

DSC03158.jpg

and to wrap up last weeks shed time i got the 4 door finished. new ex manifold studs and gasket.

DSC03141.jpg

i painted all the heat sheilds so it looks a bit nicer under the bonnet

DSC03139.jpg

and sofar ive got one rim outer polished and inner sanded ready for paint. i just need about 3 hours to polish the second one haha.

so its been 3 weeks since my last update. ive had a stack of things on but its all for the better.

the head for the fun car is ready to be picked up and can be added to a pile of new bits to fit to the drift car once work comences.

my new 4 door 32 was always just ment to be daily but i cant help a bit of mild modding. but mainly just to tidy it up and make it a pleasure to drive.

i brought a centre muffler off a HKS super dragger exhaust as the system on the 4door only had one muffler and at crusing speeds tends to drone. suprisingly its made a huge difference to the sound level of the car but doent sacrefice the crisp RB note higher in the rev range. i brought a used jap branded muffler because i have used mufflers of old systems in the past on friends cars after they had had AUS spec mufflers fitted and found no difference in sound. you just can beat them for quality.

DSC03170.jpg

i needed to fix the boot light so apon inspection i found that the old light asembly was broken and to remove it required removing the parcel shelf that had been custom made by a previous owner. it was covered in some crap fabric. it had some nice MTX audo splits with the cross overs mounted on it. i decided this was a bit to "showy" for me so i re-trimed the parcel shelf in black vynal to try and match the dash and other trims and just mounted the speaker back on it. the cross overs will be mounted somewhere elce.

DSC03198.jpg

DSC03199.jpg

to get the parcel shelf out i had to remove the rear seats which due to our spare parts stock i had fitted GTR rear seats. they are somthing id always wanted in a 4door and people always comment about the bucket style of them. one thing i learnt in doing the swap was thet the rear seat belt buckles needed to be longer so a quick trip to out GTR wrecking mate and i had that sorted. you can see the difference in the length.

DSC03175.jpg

while i was shopping for the muffler i got offered an ARC side mount for my 4door. im not planning to mod this car far and the stock side mount would probably do the trick but this was cheap and it has an ARC badge so why not.

DSC03168.jpg

in between other jobs ive been slowly prepping up the front rims for pain. i sand blasted the inner parts of the wheels then after finding the to be pretty averearge, scratches ect, i decided to pain the inners matte black.

DSC03186.jpg

DSC03189.jpg

the centers were then given a few coats on the nut holes and hard to paint bits so the finished coat on the face will be over spray free. i find rims to be a bit of a pain in the ass in this respect. then i sat one together to get me motivated to finish them.

DSC03191.jpg

i realy liked the contrast between the Gloss and Matte black so we did this for lols. a look that i think will be aplied to the drift car. Arrrg when do the ideas stop.

DSC03196.jpg

after my hectic shock and spring modding i was left with un-known spring off tanabe shocks out of a GTR sitting on climb gear shocks in the front and stock shocks with modded pedders springs in the rear. the ride was firm but nice in the front but horible in the rear so lashed out and brought these. 6 month old billies and whiteling springs. the rears are grate but the fronts are to soft for my liking so ill be playing around with springs to find the right setup in the near future.

DSC03176.jpg

And to wrap up the Pig got tuned after finding more dodgy stuff. a fuel pump issues arose on the dyno so i checked it out and did a quick power modd to it. in the process i found why the fuel pump was loosing power/ fuel pressure. an imoboliser sytem had been fitted and they had tapped into the fuel pump causing a massive resistance in the circuit. this car had had a few fuel pumps instaled in it over the last few years as no on had diognosed what the actual problem was. its now repping 266rwkw on 19psi and the power comes on like a light switch.

DSC03185.jpg

it come back friday to have some more bits finished off which included a bolt in harness bar to add to the bolt in jap bendy cage.

DSC03194.jpg

DSC03195.jpg

DSC03197.jpg

a few more small details and it will be good to go.

Lot of work done Damo!!! I think I need some thing with an ARC badge as well. Nice pick up on the Bilsteins, they ride so well and are well worth the extra cash you pay for them I think. I probably think this because my car has some as well and I want to be a Bilstein fan boy.

yea the bilsteins are grate. i ended up putting the springs i got out of bens GTR in the front. the ride is super.

on the 4 door hectic daily i have added a very JDM centre console lid.

DSC03216.jpg

so now when im fealing super American and i get my 3 super sized cheese burgers i can fit all the ddrinks in. on a plus nite the top sits at the same level as the arm rest on the door so it feals like im in a sporty arm chair. 2 thumbs up for this mod. haha

DSC03217.jpg

after weeks of tinkering the Pig 32 is ready to roll. as usual while doing some matenance, replacing turbo to manifold gasket, we found some split and burnt water and oil feeds. so an expensive trip to enzed and some time later and everything is nice and in braid.

DSC03207.jpg

DSC03221.jpg

DSC03222.jpg

and a mate welded up the drain pipe designed to get all the fittings of the drain pipe away from anything super hot.

DSC03225.jpg

and we made a tuff spec front bar out of one of our spares. first some pro repairs.

    • But first....while I was there, I also swapped across the centre console box for the other style where the AV inputs don't intrude into the (very limited !) space.  Part# was 96926-4GA0A, 284H3-4GA0B, 284H3-4GA0A. (I've already swapped the top 12v socket for a USB bulkhead in this pic, it fit the hole without modification:) Basically to do the console you need to remove the DS and PS side console trim (they slide up and back, held in by clips only) Then remove the back half of the console top trim with the cupholders, pops up, all clips again but be careful at the front as it is pretty flimsy. Then slide the shifter boot down, remove the spring clip, loose it forever somewhere in the car the pull the shift knob off. Remove the tiny plastic piece on DS near "P" and use something thin and long (most screwdrivers won't fit) to push down the interlock and put the shifter down in D for space. There is one screw at the front, then the shifter surround and ashtray lift up. There are 3 or 4 plugs underneath and it is off. Next is the rear cover of the centre console; you need to open the console lid, pop off the trim covering the lid hinge and undo the 2rd screw from the driver's side (the rest all need to come out later so you can do them all now and remove the lid) Then the rear cover unclips (6 clips), start at the top with a trim tool pulling backwards. Once it is off there are 2 screws facing rearwards to remove (need a short phillips for these) and you are done with the rear of the console. There are 4 plugs at the A/V box to unclip Then there are 2 screws at the front of the console, and 2 clips (pull up and back) and the console will come out.
    • So, a bit of a side trip, but one that might be interesting for people with JDM cars and japanese head units. I know @Pac previously posted about a carplay/android auto adapter he installed which used the AUX input, and @V35_Paul put in one of the Tesla style units that replace both screens. The option I went with was a Lsait LLT-YF-VER5.87_2 (https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/Lsailt-8GB-Android-Multimedia-Interface-for_1601187633672.html). Price was $1,150 for a single unit although they are much cheaper if you are willing to buy 2....$857ea. Make you you get the version 2 not version 1, it is faster and has a better UI - this is the manufacturer listing: http://www.lsailt.com/product/348.html. BTW if you've never bought from Alibaba before, don't be concerned....these guys can't stay in business unless they are responsive, ship fast etc, they were excellent (probably faster shipping than most local places) So, this was my task for a lazy Sat afternoon....looks complex but was all done in a few hours (it probably helps that I had some of it apart before so it was a bit familiar). I also decided to add a HD USB drive recorded at the same time and the unit also supports an aftermarket reverse cam (if you don't want to retain factory) and also AV in and HDMI out It looks much worse than it is, in fact in was genuinely all plug and play (no custom wiring at all). This video was pretty good (skipped a few steps), unfortunately they are an Aussie seller but no longer sell this unit (I guess Carplay/AA adapters are easier to install and much cheaper) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T5hJfYOB8Dg
    • That still isn't a lot to go on. I don't have a Y50 Fuga Head Unit wiring diagram. I can say that a lot of nissans of that age shared head unit plugs, so if you are in Australia something like this would probably help: https://aerpro.com/app091# You plug that into the car loom, then either plug the head unit ISO into that (if it has ISO), or you buy and ISO adapter harness that you wire in. Bit of stuffing around, but once you have ISO its easy to change things in future.
    • It is a kunfine Android screen . Does anyone know the wirering diagram of the fuga ??
    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
