Mines pod-less as well I hate pods anyways

On the subject of 'pods' think I should put stock air box back on? Some people say yes some say no.. unsure as to what gives more power. (I have apexi ones on atm)

mine...

i know adam has Kris' old pods on, or used to, but facebook has yielded nothing

Yep, I sure do. Having a few intarwebz issues so can't post before / after pics but will do once I get back online.

yeah but gotta work out what's available being a new estate etc...it's just inside the exchange which is around the corner from where I live now, so TPG etc won't guarantee speeds.....It might still be fine, and being ADSL2 even 'slow' would probably be quicker than normal ADSL, but it's not like you can try before you buy..

when you say its around the corner, you mean the exchange?

If so, it'll be fast as f**k if they have ADSL2+ support. dont worry about their promises or whatever as the closer you are, the faster it is. They can't stop that. Although TPG do artificially shape you without warning & reason - and then deny it, so be wary of them.

Although due to the waste of money NBN, most internet companies are not installing decent infrastructure anywhere so you'll probably just be stuck with shitty ADSL.

Ash, I meant my parents house where I live at the moment is around the corner from the exchange. My house is just inside the boundary according to some website thar was linked in the adsl thread a few weeks ago.

Not sure what other options are available to me but need decent speed, adsl minimum, and decent download limit... Splitting the bill with housemates, so might be able to spend a bit more if necessary.

What's better adsl2 or cable?

depends how many people in your area have cable. Cable speed is distributed throughout the network it belongs to, not just to one house. For example with adsl the things that will slow u down are distance from exchange and load on the service at home, say ur housemates and u being on at the same time. With cable, if everyone in ur street has cable, ur never gonna get a good speed from it. Worst part is there's no way of knowing how popular cable is in ur area

thats the age old cable thinking

over subscribed / hub technology / blah blah

the network is pretty well setup these days

i dont reckon cable would ever be over subscribed

ive used optus @home and bigpond cable and all times

it was consistent line rate non-stop regardless

the only time it was slow back when optus @home would cap you for reaching your quota

adsl as others have said

varying line rate and speed and throughput

dropouts and very suseptable to line conditions

coax cable is very mature, stable and static

and when adsl does barf you get that age old chestnut

oh its the line, oh its your exhange, oh its your filter blah blah

cable if it barfs, you ring bigpond or optus and say fix and they do it

Are they rolling out cable still? I thought all of that sort of infrastructure spending had pretty much stopped, especially with everyone waiting to see what happens with the NBN

Not these days, and basically why would neighbors get adsl if they can get cable? All the neighbors that I know have cable atm and I don't seem jibbed with speeds at all - in fact I see speeds of around 35mbps often (30mbps plan)

and yeh, I'd still like to see fiber but seriously doubt its happening anytime soon here, well it may in the direct city but for a country our size? lol good luck with that.

    • I don't understand how this hasn't boiled down to - Upgrade the turbo when you have everything required. ECU, injectors, fuel pump, turbo, etc. Do it all at once.  If you don't have everything required, just enjoy the car as it is and keep saving up your pennies.
    • Sounds like you've got an interesting adventure ahead here with local support if you have trouble! My guess is that, unboosted, you will be OK with a small upgrade like -9. What will happen is that once the stock ECU sees more airflow than it expects it will add a heap of fuel and pull a heap of timing to be safe because it can't understand how it could get that much air without there being an issue. You will see clouds of black smoke and it won't pull hard through the midrange and top end. So, overall it will be a bit frustrating but should be OK. If you are still nervous set the base timing back 2o through the CAS, but it will be even more sluggish everywhere. As said above through...this is not my guarantee your engine won't be blown into a million pieces, leaving you looking for very hard to find parts A better idea is get a computer with logging ASAP, wire in a wide band O2 sensor and a use remote tuner. I've done multiple cars this way and while it is not as good as a specific tune on a dyno they can get it 90% right. I'd suggest if you can afford an R33 GTR these days you can afford an ECU and tune. And if you can't afford that you sure won't be able to afford the rebuild if it goes bad in the meantime,.
    • Yeah it would be nice if someone took the time to put that sort of information together, but there are a lot of variations in looms. I think you are making this way hard for yourself if you just want to get it running....sourcing an SR20 with the right wiring will be a billion times easier than matching the RB loom to an S15 chassis. If you do end up going this way, you just need to trace every wire in the loom with a multimeter, 95% of them will go to a location you can confirm at the ECU.....and then post it up for the next person who needs it
    • Just top it up with water, and keep a general idea of how much you added. It is normal for water to be pushed into and pulled out of the reservoir through the cap, and it should not be more than half full or it will be likely to overflow when hot. Any decent mechanic can do a pressure test of the cooling system to confirm if you have a leak. Keep in mind if it is only leaking a little and when hot it may well evaporate before you see it hit the ground
    • I'd ask the shop what they used and use that. Mixing coolants is sometimes OK, sometimes not, and you have know the details of each coolant to know whether it's a good idea or not.
