Paul, u told me about that tomei bottom end kit u did for a customer then compared it to a nitto kit...what conclusion did u draw from this, 1st hand experience? Not a version from a pc warrior

simple Marko...

full 12 counter vs 8 counter crankshaft...Nitto wins.

i beam conrods vs h beam conrods...Nitto wins.

22mm thick walled pins vs 21mm thin walled pins...Nitto wins.

JE piston blanks machined by Nitto to exacting tolerances vs pistons that often need pin ends counterdrilled to get them to balance...Nitto wins.

JE ring package is regarded as the best in sealing and oil control in the market...Nitto again.

Thats without not mentioning oil pump etc...

It was a no brainer for me really.

I think that Nitto's best engineered product is actually their headgaskets. Incredible seal compared to anything else available.

Yeah it's actually a useful app in a sea of utterly useless ones, and I was really really uprised that it was free-how good is that!

Don't worry Paul and I get along well enough, this is just talking, not some all out workshop slagging fest like so many other threads on the forum we are all used to

hmmm...unless it has a spacer to sort out the rod to stroke ratio...anything more than about 2.8l in a 2.6 litre block is getting silly. I'm sure it *can* be done.....but should it?

that sucks....hope you don't have to do full emissions test as well

omg they have an app for that????

That's wierd.....i guess the rb30 might run out of puff up high but it should still flow the same air/make the same power, just at lower revs?

Not much point calling these a forklift block...rb30 was by miles the biggest selling rb motor...they are very well proven

BTW is this going to become one of those threads I have to lock and hand out warnings?

Jun auto has been long regarded as the finest machine parts for the Japanese tuning scene for years. If you were going to produce the finest parts you would take what is regarded as the best...and improve it.

Nitto have done just this...it makes excellent business sense. Find the best of each product (whoever the manufacturer may be) and see how it could be re-engineered to be better. This is precisely how all the Japanses tuning shops do this using the original Nissan parts. If you have actually seen in person the Nitto product, actually compared them to Jun and most importantly understand where each products strengths and weaknesses lie, you would always chose the Nitto item. Go and see for yourself...ill be there on Saturday and are quite prepared to allow some time to show you a few things.

Yeah I understand what you mean about business sense, using someone elses R and D saves heaps of development time which is of course quite costly, as I've been finding out the hard way

I hold JUN, HKS, Tomei etc in the highest regard like pretty much everyone else in the community, if I was living over in Japan I'd be going straight to one of those workshops to get all the work done, wether it would be a 2.8 or a 3.0, well, that's another story

I appreciate the offer, if Friday night doesn't go too late I might pop down!

If I don't, good luck with the stroker

we don't need any power trip admins spoiling what is a good thread of info but also fun.

my invite was a serious one Steve-o.

who's doing the donk?

All this SHIT COSTS WAY TOO MUCH FARKING MONEY! :D I am not young enough or pretty enough to pedal my ass down the local street corner to rich dirty folk and i make legal patended drugs....not stuff in sheds. :(

Looking at all this fluff even boat anchors are turning into 20k motors! :D

Guess it depends on how bad you want it Roy. I could build several "forklift" engines on your travel, f1 ticket, grog, race car hire. outlays.

Not to mention your "brake and wheel fetish". god knows what you've spent there without ever fitting them to your car. :D

not at all roy....the great thing about these motors is that you can build one for sensible power targets really cheap.

any type of stroked/shiney/whatever race motor is a different story.

99% of motors on here are in the real world where budgets are not unlimited...the $10k I spent putting an rb30 in the stagea was some of the best money I've ever spent on a car. Yes it is a lot of money but a long way short of $20k+ some people spend to impress people on the internet

lol let me know if one of those overbearing nazis turn up.

They get fitted, and then i realise that driving to work i am not really using them and i have over 2k in brakes that i have not needed on the track since 2007 :(

Yes, re the grog etc, but thats therapy for having to work in 3rd world countries where i dont even get to see my car...and you are right...its a matter of what you are willing to give up to have it ... if only i cold trade the flight allowance for car parts :D

ok well let me know what time and I'll see about coming down. Do you know there's a few rotating assemblies avail to check out on the day?

Can't say until it's finished, it a mutual agreement. I'll plaster it all over the forums once it's done though and send you a pm once I've done that

fixed

its got to have the full works if i want to keep the turbo/ecu on there Duncan. Now i need to figure out how to get it to Sydney, tuned for the EPA test, pass the EPA test and then back to Canberra without paying a fortune in towing costs as the car doesn't have any rego or number plates

Do you have a car that can tow?

Get it to Unigroup, Yavuz can tune it to pass, then straight to Botany, then tow back home

Call Yavuz and you can book it in to work with a booking at Botany ;)

Haha now that is a versatile engine hoist, better than pushing a mechanical engine hoist over the worlds most roughest driveway

I just use the swingarms on the 2-poster and roll the car out of the way heh

    • I know people cry at the price of the Getrag 12-14k for a conversion now, but it really is a nice mid point. Not going to get change from 10k on a gearset installed.  $30k++ for sequential.   I know you run the risk of a damaged used one and parts are hard to get but as a street car gearbox its really hard to beat. If you enjoy a more traditional manual, its the choice no question.
