Hey all

The GOR cruise really highlighted the fact that I need driving gloves for mountain twisties. Not because I'm a wannabe racer, but I remember a few spirited corners with sweaty palms and just dreading what would happen if my grip loosened a bit.

Does anyone know of decent gloves that aren't bulky and have enough grip in them? Had a look on ebay, and the only half-decent ones for car driving are the go-kart ones.

The more expensive Nomex ones I found from another post are like >$100 delivered

OMP Gloves

What are people's experiences with these or cheaper alternatives? Is Nomex the be all and end all? Also if I am looking at doing track work in the future do I need "FIA approved gloves"?

Yehh i was thinking the same thing... Was also thinking a helmet would of been nice around some of the twisties but that might b little over the top hey...Iv'e got a whole box of alpinestar racing gloves that i got cheap from an auction, might bring em to the next meet if i can find where i stored em..

Sounds to me like you are gripping the wheel far to tight for a cruise!

What i do actually (as ive had it happen as well), is just turn the A/C on lightly (20-22 degrees) and have either vent blow over your fingers.

Seems to work for me if I'm suffering from a bit of "wheel gripitis"

Haha well the only reason I was gripping the wheel so hard was because I had sweaty palms and was scared to let go. Every few minutes I was wiping my palms on my pants. I think I would've been far more relaxed with grippy driving gloves. First time in about 6 months where I actually pushed the GTR a bit. Almost forgot what it felt like, but great to realise why I had bought one.

I might try your AC trick if I don't get gloves.

I have the Original but they have holes in the fingers from my dog so am getting new pairs soon, Ebay is your friend here. They ar ehte best fitting gloves, forget those IronClad things from Bunnings and you won't look as much like a d!ck as you would with half arm length nomex fire retarded FIA driving gloves :)

+1 for the A/C trick.

With the fan speed of 1 @ 23 degrees - I read somewhere this is the "ideal"/most confortable temperture.

But not the best idea if you're driving it a little hard - the A/C saps so much power.

Helmet through twisties is a good idea...can just keep it in the passenger seat when you're not going through them. People might look at you funny but atleast if you come off you won't be in for a concussion!

Your steering wheel must be different to mine...the more I sweat the easier it is to grip. But if you hold the wheel near the spokes you shouldn't have much trouble with grip. Weight training gloves are good at soaking up sweat without being too restrictive...can be had for as little as $20.

driving gloves for a cruise... oh dear. everything about the reason for getting gloves is wrong. it is a cruise and if you are sweating up a storm driving on the road then your probably going too fast.

at most get a suede or part suede steering wheel.

Haha, no the reason is not cuz I am going hard. It's to prevent accidents cuz of sweaty palms. The reason is safety, not speed.

      Wife wanted basket things in the wardrobe in our temporary house. Thought about ripping our the wardrobe and fitting the entire IKEA set, but it's a temporary house and we want to move in a few years. So IKEA advertises this as a 50cm unit, however the actually basket and rails measure 46cm wide. Only issue was depth, IKEA stuff is quite deep, where as the builder special junk is super shallow at less than 40cm. Send it, chopped the rails, then offset the mounting holes, job done, happy wife, less shit scattered all over the bedroom. Did the same to the other side too. Also drove the Skyline shit box today, dropped off oil at Supercheap Auto. I didn't realise they only now take max 2x bottles per visit. I visited 2x Supercheap Autos.

      I've seen similar actually in my situation. You never know what tables are attempted to be used when the car thinks it's -99C or +200C. The fail state is not usually that extreme but you know what I mean - it was in my case though! This is where being able to read all the sensors is useful cause you see this stuff really quickly.

However as long as you keep timing relatively low, it's plausible to make your own knock ears and plausible to learn to tune with a modern ECU that can do wideband O2 correction like a boost controller. I mean if you only have one viable road to even drive the car on, learning to tinker to this level may be worth doing given you can't do much else with the car...?

      I find the fact that the rear plate has to be bent inwards at the rear not so bad: but the front is just awful: It's like come on. (these are my very old, now retired/turned in plates) TBH it is a lot of money to fix a minor issue, the fact I said "I'll never really spend the money on doing this" is why people ended up buying them as a gift for a 'car guy' who can be hard to shop for.. for car guy things.

      I just bent the ends of my premo plates. It even went through Regency like that after the engine conversion and the inspector (a great bloke!) just squinted his eyes and said "I didn't see that". Plates, and how they look, are just something that have zero importance to me.
