OK....... im assuming lots of you know lots of good, clean, cheap places in Melbourne that you can get dumplings.

So share the wealth :)

Im looking for somewhere new to try.

From looking at some reviews on the web, I was considering Hutong Dumpling Bar (Market Lane). Anyone been there before??

In the city, Hutong is good.

They're all good. They're cheap, they look nasty, but the food is awesome. Don't go there if you're trying to impress people with decor or expect quality service though. Golden rule with dumpling houses is that the ruder the staff, the better the food.

For under $15 you will have a good feed of dumlings - steamed/fried - whatever.... and a can of soft drink :)

They also got other chinese food too.

You may have to book for Friday and Saturday nights it gets very busy - it's not essential to book - but highly recommended if you want a seat at these times.

All other nights and lunch times lots of available tables.

Food there is excellent - I go there for lunch there quite often. But Friday nights it's crowded.

I recommend the fried prawn and pork dumplings with some fried rice. nom nom nom

I think it was JG's in Glen Waverley where I had the best dumpling's of my life. It also happened to be on the night that a waitress got into a screaming match with a customer, which then became physical. The uglier things got, the better the dumpling's tasted :)

Taste Dumplings! Does a better name exist?

251 Burwood Highway, Burwood. I go there for lunch occasionally and the dumplings are really good and really cheap. A plate of 15 (which usually come out with 20+) costs around $8.50. I split a plate of dumplings and a plate of noodles with a workmate and we eat lunch with green tea for under $10 each. It's a bargain!

First Taste @ Footscray, they have dumplings with chunky whole prawn in it, big size!

also sports various chinese herb soup, one of it was like the penis of an ox... was said to be very potent for.... you know what I mean...

try it if you're game enough.

there's also another one opposite dumpling plus further up the street on the same stretch but I can't remember what name

then ther's the usual Shanghai Dumpling chinatown down one of the lane

After going to places like Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong, i reckon the closest you get to good 'Xiao Long Bao' will be at Hutong in the city. It is just opposite Flowerdrum.

Be sure to ring them up and book a table before you go. Eating these xiao long bao is an 'art'. You have to pick them up carefully from those bamboo steamers, ensuring the gravy is still inside, dip it into some vinegar and devour it. :happy:

A good xiao long bao is one which has the best gravy and thin fine skin. Doubt any other places in Melbourne can be any better than Hutong in that aspect.

If you are talking about steamed or fried dumplings, the Shanghai Dumpling place at Tattersalls Lane in the City would be my pick. Another place worth mentioning will be 1+1 Dumpling noodles restaurant along Hopkins St in Footscray.

Btw, steamed dumplings and xiao long baos are 2 different things ;)

used to get them from bobs kitchen in glenny but its closed for renovations. so these days theres a place down the road near china bar, i think its JK as mentioned above. ill smash down at least 10 steamed and 10 fried every time. im killing to go back there but havent had the chance :'(

The truth!

Dumpling King in Box Hill are the absolute best dumplings I've had anywhere in Melbourne. And yes, their service can be very shit. On an upside the restaurant is very clean and all the food I've had there is fantastic. Favourite are the Pork Dumplings in Chilli Oil Soup.

Xiao Ting Box offers this too - xiao long bao - not sure how it compares to Hutong - I've never eaten at Hutong though - might have to try it. :)

Anyway, this dumpling place might be cheap and good but try taking a look at the kitchen. I was there this afternoon sitting at the back on the ground floor, saw the waitress cleaning the table before handing back to the kitchen, picked up a dumpling from the kitchen table with her hands and drop it back on the plate :)

      Here's the chart for fuel pressure vs. current draw, assuming your base fuel pressure is 3 bar and you run like 0.5bar boost on WOT, you should only momentarily hit 9amps here and there. (Ignore my prev post, I cannot read a chart these days it seems)

      Those comp test results are not hideous. Whether they are accurate or not (ie, when that comp tester says 140 psi, is the real pressure120, 140 or 160?) is unknown to us. The state of the battery used to crank it over is unknown, etc etc. Many people around here would say that the absolute values and the spread are perfectly fine to just add boost and keep going. I personally would be happier with a narrower spread than that, but even the diff between 125 and 145 is not terrible. That one cylinder at 125 though, has probably copped some damage relative to the others. You should inspect the valves seeing as you've got it open. Do you know how to measure installed ring gaps? That, and an inspection of the rings themselves, is how you will determine whether they need to be replaced. If you're not good to do these things, take the block and the pistons and rings to a shop that is, and ask them for the go/no-go on them. Do the bores need a hone at all? If so, you might well be justified in getting some different pistons in order to get away from the ring supply problem. Whether you're happy to spend a lot more money right now, on more gear, rather than less money, but an amount that looks stupid given that you will only get a handful of rings in exchange for that money, is for you to decide.

      Ok so i would love some advice here please, i purchased an R33 a few months back and its had a few mods done to the engine, its an RB25det running a Master ECU, 1200cc injectors, bigger turbo, oil cooler, oil filter relocation kit, Spool H-beam rods, acl/ross pistons. When i removed the motor from the vehicle (as its getting a respray) i thought i would compression test it and these are the following results. Cylinder 1-145psi, Cylinder 2-143psi, Cylinder 3-125psi, Cylinder 4-145psi, Cylinder 5-140psi, Cylinder 6-135psi this test was done with the motor on the ground and powering up the starter motor. I dropped the sump and found broken oil squirters on cylinder 3,5 and 6. I was told my rings are probably worn so i stripped the motor completely to get a new set of rings for it. The trouble is no one has these rings anywhere and they have to be custom made by Ross over in the states and will cost about $600+$200 delivery. My question is how can i tell if my rings are at fault and if they are still ok and is this price ok for a set of rings?
