Hello,

Ive recently fitted a 52mm radiator to my r32 gtst. Due to the large size, the the engine fan has been chucked out and now im in the process of finding a proper thermo fan + shroud option.

I was wondering if anyone else has installed a 52mm radiator in their r32 gtst? What did you do in terms of cooling?

The most common setup is using a Ford Falcon AU twin thermo setup but have heard that it sticks out 11cm.

Has anyone had any luck fitting an AU shroud onto a 52mm radiator in their r32 gtst?

Another option I am looking into is the Flex-a-lite thermo shroud which is 6.7cm thick but comes at a cost. ( http://www.jegs.com/i/Flex-a-lite/400/420/10002/-1 )

Love to hear what others have done.

Here are some pictures of the initial fit using the standard shroud.

Thanks

The au gear should fit, Ozeparts is were i got my last set. it may be worth a visit just to measure one up in person as it has alot of overlap which you trim off anyway (so less overall depth).

Benefit is its cheap... about 13/ to 1/4 of the price of the flexalite gear (even though i used alot of flexalite fans over the years).

It does require triming up but im sure your more than capable and would find it a piece of piss.

just out of curiosity, what brand radiator did you get?

It is an ASI 52mm radiator

if at all possible try to keep the stock shroud, they designed it like that for a reason

Stock shroud has been designed to compliment the large engine fan. Hence the opening is similar size to the fan diametre. In order for the factory shroud to work the thermo fan would need to be spaced out and any gaps sealed off for it to replicate the shrouds advantages. As the shroud opening is quite large, due to sitting close over the engine fan, it takes up a lot of space once a thermo fan is mounted.

Mechanic measured up 65mm clearance between the radiator and engine. That would involve trimming 4cm off the AU thermo shroud.

The flex-a-lite dual thermo is 66mm which claims to be the lowest profile shroud in the industry.

I'll drop by some wreckers to scope out the size of the AU shroud, but most likely Ill bite the bullet and get the flex-a-lite. If that doesnt fit, then will most likely reduce to 42mm radiator...

Surely I cant be the first r32 gtst with a 52mm radiator? Share us your setups people!

Thanks all

This thread has me interested. I am putting in a PWR crossflow 55mm soon, with a 16" spal fan (http://www.spalusa.com/store/Main.aspx?p=itemdetail&item=30102050). It also has an oil cooler build in to the end tank so will be taking a bit of extra loading from the engine.

Its not going to be driven on the road so not worried too much about traffic jams, but interested to see if it is going to be enough of a solution if left to idle on a hot day.

Id look into the AU thermo fan setup if it fits in your engine bay. Although you might not be sitting in peak hour traffic, you can always run the thermo fans at full speed during warm down laps and after any track racing. Cause once you park the car, there will be nothing cooling the radiator and temps will shoot up.

I highly recommend looking into a shroud setup with the thermo fan as the fan is only as good as the shroud surrounding it.

Update: Ended up buying Flex-a-lite low profile dual thermo fan from Carshopinc - http://flexalite.carshopinc.com/product_in...ts_id/98227/420

66mm thick and moves 2500cfm of air

Should hopefully have it in the car some time next week.

im running the same radiator with the stock shroud and fan, shroud was trimmed a little bit but it fits nice. the only issue i have with the viscous fan is that when i installed a front mount intercooler the pipe that runs across the front of the engine tries to foul the fan and i couldnt shut my bonnet properly or it would push the pipe onto the fan - not ideal. had to chop some length off the top end of the pipe so it would sit further away from the fan but thats caused other issues. so im looking to do something similar with the twin low-profile electric fans, are you going to wire it up yourself? if so do you know how to wire it up so it switches on and off as required? if someone can share some DIY intstructions for that im sure it would be much appreciated
