I have never used a hand car wash place before, and for the first time i actually need to use one and get it done tomorrow only.

Anyone recommend any in Brisbane?

Looking through the posts it seems people either use One Stop Hand Car Wash on logan road or Car Wash Cafe - Mt Gravatt.

The latter doesnt look so good on their website.

Well i tried the one at mt gravatt today. They werent busy (only 1 other car there) and they werent good at all, sure it got "cleaner" but for their cheapest wash of $25, it was a waste of money and it took them 15 mins with 1 person washing it. Not surprisingly certain areas had not been cleaned properly and this guy also pulled out the blackest/dirtiest chamois i have ever seen for drying. Found lots of dried water spots as well, not happy. It was a $5 job.

Wha? You think $25 to wash the outside of a car is cheap?!

i reckon 25 is cheap.. and being cheap you will get a cheap job...

i wouldnt get off the couch to even think about washing someones car for $25.. when i do mine it takes me about 1.5 hours for a job i deem as decent... i wouldnt do 1.5hours work for $25. from that $25 he has to pay tax, and has to cover his lease, materials, tools/equipment depreciation, all before he sees any profit

Yeah i still disagree. what you do in 1.5hrs, i could do in 45 but lets meet close to the middle and call it an hour. The average income in australia is 50k, so your average australian would get off the couch for $25 for an hours work and many do it for less.

So on average, i think most would agree its too expensive to consider and the reason people do it themselves. You're saying because its a business and it has to cover costs, that its not expensive. That reasoning isnt right.

anyway, this was a 1 off unfortunately for me due to my circumstances so im glad i'll be back to cleaning it myself - just thought people would want to know that the business has changed at mt gravatt, its not any good and seems to be under new ownership too.

how do u know what i do in 1.5 hour you can do in 45.. i could be spit polishing here. :)

and covering cost IS right.. every business in the world, big or small, factors that into their pricings.

and if he is just an employee, not an owner operator, then its gonna be more out of the 25$ till profit is seen, cos the employee is needing to be paid.

for $25 i would only expect a quick rough wash, with a half assed chamois job

Completely agree!

Your $25 includes water, electricity, premises rent, outfit, supplies, wages, PROFIT etc etc etc.

So in reality your $25 wash is probably a $5 "actual wash".

haha hang on, while i understand what you're both saying and agree when looking at it from a business point of view - $25 to cover costs is right. It does not however make it "cheap" to the consumer because it covers the cost to run the business.

An example to help put this in perspective: i could filter water from the tap at home to drink OR buy an imported bottle of water for $10. The price being so dear because the business has to cover the cost of importing it.

now both of you would think that $10 bottle of water is not expensive because its the business recovering costs of freight. Your line of thinking only applies to a business point of view.

What im saying is, as a consumer....$25 to wash a car is expensive because your average australian would rather do it themselves. so in order for a business to charge that, they should do a good job. Please tell me you understand what im trying to say here... :whistling:

Completely understand what you're saying.

What we're saying is that you need to consider the overall costs when paying for a service. Regardless of your perception of what is expensive v what is cheap that $25 you paid is paid to cover everything. It's why for example the same places charge $40 and upwards for a proper wash.

Personally i think the entire car-wash industry is a complete rip off, built off the "oh-no, no rain for a month so the whole world is gonna dry up" hippie greenies line, and if you even slightly value your car you would stay away from almost 90% of the places that wash cars. Never have and never will. I'd rather my car stay dirty than have some 16yo who's washed his 100th car of the day pick up a sponge/chamois off the dirty floor and scratch the crap out of my paint.

lol, i'm a bitter man :whistling:

i see what your saying, but no matter what angle you look at it its still a business.. people washing your car and bottled water are both wastes of money if u ask me :P but we all do it.

    • I got back to Japan in January and was keen to get back on track as quickly as possible. Europe is god-awful for track accessibility (by comparison), so I picked up a first-gen GT86 in December just to have something I could jump into right away. The Skyline came over in a container this time and landed in early January. It was a bit battered after Europe, though—I refused to do anything beyond essential upkeep while it was over there. The clutch master cylinder gave out, and so did the power steering. I didn’t even bother changing the oil; it was the same stuff that went in just before I left Japan the first time. Naughty. Power steering parts would’ve cost double with shipping and taxes, so knowing I’d be heading back to Japan, I just postponed it and powered through the arm workout. It took a solid three months to get the car back on the road. Registration was a nightmare this time around. There were a bunch of BS fees to navigate, and sourcing parts was a headache. I needed stock seats for shaken, mistakenly blew 34k JPY on some ENR34 seats—which, of course, didn’t fit—then ended up having the car’s technical sheet amended to register it as a two-seater with the Brides. Then there’s the GT86. Amazing car. Does everything I want it to do. Parts are cheap, easy to find, and I don’t care what anyone says—it’s super rewarding to drive. I’ve done a few basic mods: diff ratio, coilovers, discs, pads, seat, etc. It already had a new exhaust manifold and the 180kph limiter removed, so I assume it’s running some kind of map. I’ve just been thrashing it at the track non-stop—mostly Fuji Speedway now, since I need something with higher speed after all that autobahn time. The wheels on the R34 always pissed me off—too big, and it was a nightmare getting tires to fit properly under the arches. So I threw in the towel and bought something that fits better. Looks way cleaner too (at least to me)—less hotboy, less attention-seeking. Still an R34, though. Now for future plans. There are a few things still outstanding with the car. First up, the rear subframe needs an overhaul—that’s priority one. Next, I need to figure out an engine rebuild plan. No timeline yet, but I want to keep it economical—not cutting corners, just not throwing tens of thousands at a mechanic I can barely communicate with. And finally, paint. Plus a bit of tidying up here and there.
    • Nope, needed to clearance under the bar a little with a heat gun, a 1/2" extension as the "clearancer", and big hammer, I was aware of this from the onset, they fit a 2.0 with this intake no problems, but, the 2.5 is around 15mm taller than a 2.0, so "clearancing" was required  It "just" touched when test fitting, now, I have about 10mm of clearance  You cannot see where it was done, and so far, there's no contact when giving it the beans Happy days
    • It's been a while since I've updated this thread. The last year (and some) has been very hectic. In the second-half of 2024 I took the R34 on a trip through Germany, Italy, France and Switzerland - it was f*cking great. I got a little annoyed with the attention the car was getting around Europe and really didn't drive it that much. I could barely work on the car since I was living in an inner-city apartment (with underground parking). During the trip, the car lost power steering in France - split hose - and I ended up driving around 4,000kms with no power steering.  There were a few Nurburgring trips here and there, but in total the R34 amassed just shy of 7,000kms on European roads. Long story short, I broke up with the reason I was transferred to Europe for and requested to be moved back to Japan. The E90, loved it. It was a sunk cost of around EUR 10,000 and I sold it to a friend for EUR 1,500 just to get rid of it quickly. Trust me, moving countries f*cking sucks and I could not be bothered to be as methodical as I was the first time around.
    • I assume clearances were all a-okay?
