Hey guys, since I've been reading about skylines and plan to get one, I have this insatiable urge to learn about them. Since I can't learn about them properly until I have one to stuff around with, I want to get a few mags for when I don't have internet access.

I usually buy street fords and freerider MX, but I'm sure there are import related magazines out there. I've seen Hot 4's but I guess they are 4 cyl only? If they are, I'm not interested.

Is there a 6 cyl import specific mag (one for skylines, supra's, soarers etc)?

What magazines do you guys read that are car related? Sorry if this is a silly post, I searched but couldn't find anything.

I don't even think there's many technically informative magazines these days - if you can get your hands on any High Performance Imports issues they were really good back in the day.

Cheers guys, I'll grab an issue next time I'm at the newsagent.

Nice one, I haven't read that magazine since I was in high school - SAU took over as my choice for car info  I think I might just swing past the newsagency and have a look at this mag!

HPI (Yep I know it is only called PI now but I hate it being called PI so I will continue to call it HPI) is the only decent magazine around for our cars. Any one see the "Sex Spec 10 second R33 GTR" on the cover of Hot4s at the moment? My son of rajab.

As others have mentioned, Performance Imports is a great magazine (been a subscriber for many years).

I also subscribe to Zoom, which is usually a good read (covers more than just japanese cars - but primarily they're focused on 'go more than show'). I will note that I feel that the quality of their articles has gone radically down-hill in the last 12 months, but it probably can't hurt to grab a copy and read.

I'd generally recommend to steer clear of Fast Fours, Hot 4's etc - they seem much more focused on portraying women laying over their cars, and the flashier aspects of vehicles rather than performance.

LOL.

On that note the bitch on the cover of Hot4s at the moment nearly made me rape the cover of the magazine in the newsagency, DAMN!

Yeah, I wouldn't mind giving her a nice shin kick to the face.

High Performance Imports (Performance Imports)

Zoom actually has some decent articles in it.

Auto Salon Rag / Hot 4's had some decent articles but most of the time it is shit.

i like PI because of the tech articles, sometimes it's a funny read, it's good to see "what products" are out these days...

.

plus i also find jash n kristians articles a larf.

and i know he's reading so i should probably just say "jash" n forget about him to piss him off :)

It would be really good if there was a catalogue of past articles of Performance Imports aka High Performance Imports, because there've been some extremely useful info reviews that are still relevant to-day. Then they could sell specific back issues more effectively (as well as selling them 3 for 1).

+1

If I want hot girls I have the internet for that, not paying $8 for a magazine thats supposed to be about cars.

If you want to learn about skylines look no further than here on SAU, I have learned more about Skylines on here than I would learn from reading 1,000 copies of Zoom or HPI. Just lurk around for a bit in all of the mechanically related forums, be it maintenance or forced induction there are alot of lessons to be learned.

    • I know people cry at the price of the Getrag 12-14k for a conversion now, but it really is a nice mid point. Not going to get change from 10k on a gearset installed.  $30k++ for sequential.   I know you run the risk of a damaged used one and parts are hard to get but as a street car gearbox its really hard to beat. If you enjoy a more traditional manual, its the choice no question.
