A RB30DET was a motor never offered by Nissan, it is illegal until tested... The test costs 3k, and if you fail that's it.

So clearly it will never be legal either

I don't know that the cylinder head effects the eligibility of it for compliance. The block is made by Nissan and all factory mounting positions are maintained. The do the same with V8's....HQ 308's never came with alloy heads but if you put one of those engines into a different car, they are still able to be certified regardless of cylinder head.

Honda is another example with the KA20? with 24 cylinder head or something. Pretty sure it's cylinder block related

Apparently changing heads from single cam to twin hurts the environment according to Victoria EPA.

In eyes of EPA in Victoria, twin cam RB30 doesn't exist thus the need for emission testing.

surly you wouldn't just roll up and ask for a cert? You would do some home work at least right?? There's always loop holes.

If you were to do something along those lines your be finding an engineer and Maybe for argument sake paying a few hundred extra to find out what can and can't be done and working with them.

It carnt be impossable you just have to make it save and pass the tests ect and if your wallets deep enough and you want an rb30 in your r33 then I'm sure it can be done!!

Personally I can think of much better things to spend to money on but hay ho

The reason no one bothered is as Ash pointed out the emission testing cost $3k, if you fail thats it.

If you want legally to have RB30DET, move to another state.

Well not really.

You have to basically go through the entire ADR emissions testing for Vic. It's not like NSW where you can just get a quick test and off you go (where you can get it pre-tested).

The equipment is not cheap, so for a "pre test" you'd probably be looking at close to the 3k anyway.

Its quite involved and it's not just 5mins on a dyno. It's the full testing in closed conditions for 20mins, road testing and whatever else goes on as part of ADR certifications for emissions standards...

Basically forget it in Vic for 100% legal is the theme here.

Dan - Ye to an extent, but they class it as 3ltr and SOHC falling into one emissions setpoint as a factory motor.

The motor you are making is not a factory offering, therefore there is no emissions data available to reference off. If Nissan made a RB30DET - you'd be sweet :rofl2:

Stuff all that crap. I'll just buff out his engine No. and stamp in my currently engine Number. Thanks guys.

X stamp the hell out of the old number first, then put new number on top. If they get that thing under X ray you'll be in more trouble than just a defect...numbers go right through the metal past what the eyes can see :)

What do you think it would cost to make up a spacer plate , fit it to the block and bore the "sandwich" for thin walled liners ? Paint the block keep your number and claim the 5th if questioned .

In with the 30 crank/rods/pistons and have a real torquey "RB25DET" .

Don't they all roll off the boat looking like that ?

A .

    • The 296mm rotors are the R33 turbo brakes. The 310mm rotors are the R34 turbo brakes. The calipers are nearly the same, but not. They're the same caliper but the R34 caliper has longer legs so that it sits out far enough to go over the rotor. The pads are the same for both. When you say, "I bough tsome EBC"....did you just mean pads? Or rotors? 310mm rotors fit under 17" wheels. There may be some wheels without enough clearance though. I can't fit my fingers between the barrel of my wheel and the "corners" of my R34 calipers, but there is plenty of room behind the spokes. This is on Enkei RPF1. You can fit 324mm rotors inside a 17" wheel, but I'd be willing to bet that it would be close to impossible with the Nissan/Sumitomo caliper (using an adapter, of course), because the Sumitomo caliper is fatter than the Brembo caliper that is supposed to go on the 324mm rotors.
    • Hi. Can someone tell me what brakes(and mainly WHERE) can i buy brakes on R34 GTT? I bought some EBC which SHOULD go on my car(i have GT but it has GTT brakes) but it does not fit, Brakes are "too" small(296mm) Are 310mm be good or? I have 17 inch wheel so no "big boys" but for me driving i just need one that fits and i can get here in EU/Czech.
    • Since winter isn't that harsh anymore in Poland, i will definetely drive it 365 days a year 😉. But if the snow hits i will try it for sure and let U know. Only swap i am planning to do is of course R34 GTR front 😍.
    • Hey. Very valuable information about pitwork, I will pay attention when buying any consumable parts 🙏 As for the carpets - I got a handful of information from nengun, from which it appears that indeed the carpets for the driver's side are OEM. They are not able to show me any pictures due to the long chain of different sales entities but after I place the order, as soon as the goods arrive at the nengun warehouse from which they will send the shipment to me they can send me photos and if my purchase differs from OEM I can immediately return it / cancel the purchase. I think I will give it a try 😉. Of course i'll let you know what's what as soon as i get them P.s. I know the topic is not relevant to the thread, but both nengun and amayama have these SICK 😍 trunk room lamps available. Do you know anyone who ordered them? I need to have one in my car
