but AGAIN THERE IS NO CONTEXT TO THE FACTS THAT WERE GIVEN IN THE ORIGINAL POST.

Graeme, feel free to elaborate on teh story?

Could have been someone who'd had a big night and woken up with a hangover thinking they would be alright to drive etc etc.

Use your logic boz. If there were any mitigating circumstances to justify this bullshit behaviour, I don't think Graeme would have omitted them from his original post which painted this guy to be the irresponsible twat he is. For the record, waking up the next day from a night of heavy drinking and taking off thinking you're good to go no matter your BAC is just as stupid.

Peter, Have to agree with you about the drink driving and impound. That's something that should be looked at, possibly anything over 0.10 should be impound criteria.

Definitely something needs to be done as drink driving is totally out of control. My station alone probably get 3-4 a week on night shift just while driving around patrolling etc

I target it more than most and unless tied up at jobs I set up targeted road blocks every Fri/sat night and have got a drink driver EVERY time within the first 10 cars tested. Half the time it was the very first car!

I even almost got ran over last night doing a road block by person who simply couldn't see me standing in the middle of the road in a reflective vest, with torch, emergency lights on and in very well lit area. He hadn't even been drinking. Some people should NOT be on the road!!

since i would like to see the limit be .00 for everyone i think anything over .05 should be impounded, and not just for 48hrs, for the whole time they have lost there license, also they have to pay storage if they want to keep it, if they dont want to keep it they sign it over and it gets auctioned off and the proceeds go to victims of crime fund or something like that.

Obviously the penaltys are not enough to make ppl think twice about drink driving so they need to be harder, bring in laws like that and maybe then ppl will have second thoughts.

Instead they bring in laws where the only evidence needed is a cops word which is wide open for abuse and your car gets impounded.

Well another bad night on the roads with yet another fatal and the Major contributing factor SPEED. RIP and feel for all those involved.

We also got another 3 XPCA overnight also. I don't know when people will learn.

There was even one XPCA that crashed threw the road block at the scene of the fatal almost running members down!

eXceed Prescribed Concentration of Alcohol.

Was that the one on Canterbury Rd Graeme? I was driving home late lastnight and wondered what the road block was, cause it only seemed to go for 200 metres. Then my mother told me someone had a fatal in Vermont

And I don't know how people can crash through a road block when there's a big f*** off portable trailer saying detour with flashing arrows...that's some serious intoxication.

Birds, that was the one. I didn't end up going to the scene. Just heard it all over the air.

XPCA is Drink Driving. Bird's you would be surprised at how intoxicated some people we catch driving are. Some can't even stand up, or barely talk. Most of them are from accidents. Crashing into poles, fences, multiple parked cars.

Probably over the last 3-5 years 80% of the drink drivers I have caught are international students/visa's sadly it appears it's impossible to educate/prevent them from this behavior.

No shit about drink drivers, at work, i get people drinking about 3 to 4 bottles of sake, they're throwing food around, talking shit, and then they get into their cars and drive off after dinner, wtf is this shit?

a few times i've wanted to call the popo, but then if they're around when i knock off, i'm bound to get defected.

Really? That's full on, never would have thought that.

lucky they got all those hoons off the road in that camberfield bust good use of resources... :D road laws here are such a joke i can see why people have blatant disregard for them.

It is practically impossible to have a limit of 0.00 even though this is the limit for P platers, many things contain small amounts of alcohol which people are not aware of, including mouth wash, medication, deserts ect not to mention whilst your body processes about 1 standard drink per hr the last amount of alcohol takes much much longer. If you are going with the you cannot drink at all theory then the lowest reasonable limit is 0.02 compared with 0.05 and you can have 1 drink then drive.

(In other parts of the world the BAC is 0.08 there are studies that prove this is a very reasonable limit)

Drink driving laws are quite tough IMO at least for the minnor offenses such as just over 0.05 or P platers which read under 0.05. Years ago a mate of mine was done for 0.02 hadn't consumed any alcohol for 40hrs and was not drunk of affected by alcohol. He was walking for quite a while which IMO under these circumstances this was well beyond reasonable.

But just to make this clear I believe being drunk and driving is desgraceful and should be penalised harshly.

He wants to contest it saying his Honda Jazz doesn't go that fast.

Haha what a joke, my old Daewoo Matiz Van (800cc 3cly) went that fast! Throw the book at him. Muppet..

As for a .00 BAC limit, this is a stupid idea. There goes having a glass or two of wine with dinner or a couple of beers at the football etc. It's up to the individual to make the sensible decision not ban everyone.

The real problem is repeat offenders. I know plenty of people who have been caught multiple times drink driving. It's a habit for them. In these cases it laws are too lenient.

What a crock. The problem is not people who are 0.04. The problem is people who break the current laws are not punished harshly enough. Especially the serious repeat offenders.

How is blood alcohol limit a cops word??

    • Actually, that's not entirely true. It's also the same motor in the 1st gen Nissan Cube but they're rare as hen's teeth.
    • Yeah it is always worth testing and balancing actuators out of the box, just set the pressure regulator on a compressor very low (eg 5 psi) and increase it slowly to see when they both move.....unfortunately while you may be able to adjust the length of the actuator rod to minimise any difference, the actual pressure they move from is not adjustable so you need a well matched pair. And yes, the VCAM is probably contributing; the earlier in the rev range they come on boost and the slower the revs build (I think your demo was in 5th), the more you notice it.  Driving at WOT through 1st, 2nd, 3rd etc you will probably never hear it as any shuffling starts and is over super quickly
    • oh they were with that motor, you need to remove the engine to change the spark plugs (don't have to, but it does make it easier)
    • I certainly fall into the annoyed camp, but glad to hear that if it's happening at low boost then I'm not likely going to blow a turbo and end up with metal shards in my oil. Just feels like it prevents me from really driving it without hesitation and "peak" performance. Wonder if it's the VCAM, it did an impressive job of shifting the torque curve and faster spool, but maybe now it's "too fast" and there's too much air for how open the throttle is.  Based on some other threads, will also do some reading on synchronizing the actuators. They are the default actuators that come on the Garrett's and I would think they would be set the same coming from the factory, but if the turbos don't actually work exactly the same way at the same time as previously mentioned, it would be worth making sure the actuators are actuating together properly
    • I went down this rabbit hole before, ended up sourcing a motor from the UK (I'm in Japan) which also didn't function correctly. With the original motor, I disassembled it and reassembled it and it works somewhat, sometimes. What I could deduce from all my screwing around is that there is calibration of the gears on the inside of the motor and two ramps on the main gear which activate switches that operate the motor and move the sunroof either to retract into the roof or tilt. Where I got stuck was that, it seemed in my case that one or both of the switches that are activated by the ramp on the gear did not always activate and thus the motor did not move, causing it to sometimes not retract or tilt (apologies, I've forgotten which way it didn't work.).  Of course this part is discontinued at Nissan now, it's the same part in the S15 but no other models. I also contacted the manufacturer of the component for schematics - forgot the name, they're based in Gifu - but they declined to share the information due to being bound by an NDA, sadly. Looking through my pictures now, it seems I last had a crack at this in 2022. See, I so kindly wrote "open" and "close" next to the switches. If you figure it out, please do tell me. Those little switches, with the red buttons may need to be replaced.
