Well another bad night on the roads with yet another fatal and the Major contributing factor SPEED.

Would you be able to explain the accident and why you considered the major factor to be speed? Is there a category for driver error. A terrible driver in a piece of crap car can be dangerous doing the speed limit.

It just seems to me that speed is the default reason for every accident.

What a crock. The problem is not people who are 0.04. The problem is people who break the current laws are not punished harshly enough. Especially the serious repeat offenders.

How is blood alcohol limit a cops word??

Agree. I think Brett was referring to the hoon laws as far as a cop's word goes.

BAC is useless anyway. I would never trust myself to drive at 0.05. I know the breathos at Crown aren't fantastic, but I blew 0.06 on one of them, a couple of hours after my last drink...still in a state where I would probably fall off a bicycle. Some people can't take their alcohol as well as others regardless of percentage. Bring back ye olde sobriety tests...

Speed is still a determining factor in an accident if your car is in a poor state, you're still driving too fast for it even if you're under the legal speed limit. It's also up to you as a driver to identify unsafe conditions and adjust speed accordingly to avoid an accident / spin out.

but AGAIN THERE IS NO CONTEXT TO THE FACTS THAT WERE GIVEN IN THE ORIGINAL POST.

Graeme, feel free to elaborate on teh story?

Could have been someone who'd had a big night and woken up with a hangover thinking they would be alright to drive etc etc.

I was refering to the facts that were put forward in his original post, you could see there wasn't going to be any extra facts otherwise I'm should he wouldn't have left them out.

in vic sympathy from judges is easy, if ya grew up tough or ya parents divorced you can pretty much get away with murder

True but the Victorian courts are WAY to soft. I know someone that's been in a bit of trouble (one of those people you'd rather now know) and he was saying that Victoria is the best state to commit a crime, and the NT and QLD are the states to avoid.

since i would like to see the limit be .00 for everyone i think anything over .05 should be impounded, and not just for 48hrs, for the whole time they have lost there license, also they have to pay storage if they want to keep it, if they dont want to keep it they sign it over and it gets auctioned off and the proceeds go to victims of crime fund or something like that.

Instead they bring in laws where the only evidence needed is a cops word which is wide open for abuse and your car gets impounded.

I understand the point you're trying to make, however It would be impossible to achieve that. Bodies metabolize alcohol at different rates based on height/weight/fat %/gender

and lots of things contain small amounts of alcohol. Lots of medications, cherry ripes, mouthwash (it's a cleansing agent, lots of them contain ethanol/alcohol)

and as for people who wake up with residual alcohol in their system, someone I know had a drinking session with my partner, and wasn't back to .00 til 4pm that afternoon (he'd stopped drinking about 3 or 4 am) of course he couldn't start his car until then because he had an inter-lock.

I understand what you're saying about cops targeting people driving certain cars (I get harassed all the time...and my car is 100% stock, but I'm from Hicksville) however I believe there is a lot more to being a cop then "look a Skyline....let's pull it over...."you were going 100 in a 60 zone"..."no officer I was going 55" that's not to say that there is some people that don't take it to far.

Birds & Graeme - People who drink drive are the ones that make my job shit. Poeple with acquired brain injuries (ABI) that end up in ABI units or in physical rehab centres or the victims of drink drivers. They make life difficult for the cops, the paramedics, the nurses and the doctors. not to mention the family. I know I don't want to sew some idiot shut after he has written himself and his car off, I don't get paid enough for that!

Richar- I don't. I drive like I own a Corolla :) I get what you're saying but as Charlene said "Speeding on the other hand, still stupid, but slightly controllable in certain instances." (I couldn't have said that better)

I don't get behind the wheel of my car and flog it, the most I ever sit on (when not passing a truck) is 5-7kmh over the speed limit on the freeway, and I believe you get a 3kmh buffer on the freeway, and I know my car is capable of more then that. My boyfriend had a 89 Mitsubishi TP Magna when he first got his license (we had it up til Jan this year) and that reached 150 on flat ground

Reason I dislike 0.00 is because of the next morning. Its so hard to judge whether you're sober and just hungover or still slightly under the influence. The 0.05 rule would be nice in those cases, damn P plates.

Well another bad night on the roads with yet another fatal and the Major contributing factor SPEED. RIP and feel for all those involved.

What were the other contributing factors?

Drink driving also?

If so, am I seeing a root cause in all of this?

I don't know if alcohol/drugs were involved. I heard that the car was possibly drag racing and lost control and crashed into a large tree. The damage to the car clearly showed it was a very high speed impact crash. I can't comment any further on that as matter ongoing and under investigation.

I agree that XPCA (drink driving) should stay at 0.05 and not 0.00. Nothing wrong with glass of wine with dinner etc and people may have some in system the next morning after big night.

I don't think it should be higher as I have seen lots of people blow 0.06 to 0.08 that in my opinion were wasted and other's blow 0.10 and appear as though they haven't even had a drink.

Are you a nurse slinky? Nurses never get paid enough anyway, and they're practically doctors lol.

Yeah Birds I'm a Nurse, and no we don't get paid no where near enough, for the amount of training we do....and all the yummy things that come along with it.

lol one of my girls is a nurse, I don't know how she does it. I'm always hearing stories involving bodily fluids and patients crashing.

On the plus side it's handy having a portable hospital around :)

speeding is the cause of everything wrong with the world man, hasn't the TAC/ government taught you anything..

how many you got pimp?

haha

exactly. never mind that the guy was probably high as a kite driving some old shitbox.

how someone can lose it so badly giving it a punt in a straight line is beyond me :nyaanyaa:

that was my point.

.

It probably was your point Alex, but my point was that the judiciary system in Victoria is piss weak, and it cracks down on the wrong stuff.

Speeding is a real issue...it's not THE biggest issue, but it's still something people need to be mindful of. Honestly for me DUI is a much bigger issue. I'd rather be in the car with someone speeding then someone that's off their face on one thing or another

Understandable that you cant comment further but without the full details it is somewhat hard to know exactly what went on even though from your description is looks to be very obvious. Please excuse the doubt though as police have been providing miss leading causes for accidents which dissagres with experts (monash accident research center) even in clear cut cases. I have posted of a specific example on which was a failure to give way was the cause yet police deemed cause of accident to be speed which I wont bother to post again.

Unless the person has a medical condition such as diabeties or some form of alcohol allergy they will be fine to drive beyond at and beyond 0.05. About 9 years ago I took part in testing using simulator tests at different BAC readings. I don't remember all the details/results of other people but I was average and I was unaffected in my opinion back up by simulation results until about 0.08, once over 0.1 though it was a very quick decline.

It is impossible to have different BAC limit for each person and there has to be a line and 0.05 is what we have. Whilst some other countries the line is at 0.08 I'm not unhappy at all with 0.05 but it will surprise most people how quickly they will get there.

Lol, the ex girlf is a nurse too, she did my stitches and local anesthetic injection during my lymph node removal op...

If you think nurses are underpaid here, back in singapore, nurses work 5 day weeks, 10 hour shifts, and get only 2grand a month, or even less. Thats bullshit pay..

I think it ain't half bad here, its still low for the amount of crap training you guys have to go through, and the amount of stuff you have to remember, no wonder everywhere is experiencing a shortage of nurses, the pay is hardly enough!

Stupid biatch last week down Jackson's Road Mulgrave at night. Looked like P plater in Holden Barina. Door not closed properly, so interior light was shining on her holding a mobile phone on her ear talking, while she proceeds to weave, tailgate, and overtake people at 80km/h in a 60km/h zone with her friend next to her. Not the worst but definately one of the stupidest.

On the talk of Drink Driving just saw on Ch 10 news that 8 police have been charged with it in last 2 months and 3 got fired as a result. I think the total was 198 since 2000.

Pure stupidity IMO and got what they deserve. Shows the type of people we are recruiting.

Just shows you guys aren't immune to it either. You guys can loose your license as well.

Xalmon- stuff that! I wouldn't work those hours for less then $500 a week, and it's not just the hours it's the personal risk that you put yourself, risking exposure to diseases and general gross-ness

    • Haha, i kow right? Could have bought so many cars for the same amount of money (or less) but driving Unicorn gives you at least +1mln to style 😅. Like wise man said "life's to short to drink cheap wine and drive boring cars" 😉
    • Newbie here, proud owner of an Autech 260RS. I'm on the hunt for wiring diagrams specific to the 260RS, particularly S1. I've ran my eyes through R33, R34 Diagrams, there are some similarities, however continue to find incorrect wire colours and pins on connectors in the 33,34 diagrams.   I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction? I'd be happy to pay for the originals in Japanese. I can translate them, at least they would be accurate.   Any help please would be greatly appreciated, never heard an RB26DETT before let alone driven one, and I've got a spaghetti monster of goodness to sort out.   Cheers Benny
    • Hey all  im wondering if you can help me please I have put a rb20 box in my r34 gtt as my auto packed up and a friend had a spare box I know it’s not ideal but it will get me up and running for now. we have done the conversation and everything is working great but my Speedo we got a s13 speed sensor but my Speedo reads double now and I bought a speed converter but still not having any luck.  so I thought I’ll reach out and pick your brains  any help would be appreciated please as I wanna drive my car again
    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
