50% of photographers hate ken rockwell.

50% like him.

You choose.

Me? I hate him.

Anyway,

Get a wide angle!! If you do landscapes you'll want a wide angle. Sigma 10-20 will your cheapest option although for $700 you can't get much unfortunately that is good in all aspects e.g. Minimal CA, Minimal distortion, Minimal flare, Minimal softness, Sharpness.

Otherwise if i was you for $700 i would buy a Sigma 30 1.4 or a 50 1.4. Awesome lenses!

I told her to buy a 50mm 1.8, nice and cheap plus a great addition >_<

Tab, most zoom lenses are wide angle at the lower range and then become... Flat? I don't know the term, but they're not wide angle after that. I reckon go a multipurpose lens as it's only a hobby.

Lol flat! Hahaha. Mid-range i'd say. 200mm+ is super tele, 70-200 is telephoto, so i'd say mid-range focal length is a good term :D

But good advice seeing as you don't want to spend much, $150 is nothing compared to $700.

I don't mind rockwell, he's straight and to the point, he doesn't bullshit that much. You just need to look past the hypocrasy.... 'You don't need more than a kit lens... I shoot my kids soccer with this $8000 L series lens" Oh, and the site is hard to navigate if you don't know what you're looking for.

you should just give me that cash for a lens.

Lol ok so im getting some advice, some people asking for money (?) and some making me join a 'i hate ken rockwell' group haha.

The ken rockwell was just something that a guy i work with was bugging me for ages to look at.

And thanks for all the advice, i'll weigh it all up and see where it goes from there! Now i know what i'm looking for.

And can someone please put some awesome photos up for me to use as my wallpapers at work?

Kgo.

Check out the link on FST513 sig. he's got some good wallpapers there.

or you could use this one. it' my minimalist interpretation of the evolution of GTR's from the 70 til today...

it might be a to artsy for you though...

It's funny Kory, it's artistic :)

SO I threw this up on a couple other photo forums, thought i'd throw it up here too.

I'll be adding some more pics next week from an afternoon shoot. these are the after dark shots.

Don't be afraid to tell me what works and more importantly what sucks big sweaty dogs balls.

Lonely little car

Well, those wheels are terrible - wrong size, style and offset.

Needs moar low.

Needs less krome.

Needs a LOT LESS ugly.

:D

Seriously, though? The placement of the tree in the first shot is "wrong" for me, maybe if the whole tree was visible and none of it was hidden by the car that shot would work better. It's probably just a matter of either composing the shot from a different angle, or relocating the car more to the RIGHT side of the frame. Maybe if whatever is directly behind the car (a smaller tree, with heaps more leaves?) was completely in view, and the car was to the complete right of the larger tree without leaves, so it too could be in full view?

Also, green car on green grass is a bit much. Maybe find a background with a contrasting colour.

Nick, I really wanted the car facing the other way, or moved to the right more so the trees would be opposite the car, but it took dead set 10 minutes to get the car there so i just said leave it. lol

I agree with the green on green. i'll get some contrast when we do some day shots. These were just done in the front yard.

Have you given your new toy a run yet?

Sidd, you're not missing anything mate, don't think into past thinking Matt's a dick

I like the first can shot. even light and decently cut for a muck around.

i'll get my first chance to try out my camera properly on sat... got a dinner to go to, woot. also my nephew's 1st bday party, and i MIGHT wash my car too (OMG)...

lots of opportunities to give it a good crack. also bought an adaptor to put some lenses off an olllld (circa 1970's) pentax SLR onto my 550D

Sidd it was a joke lol hence the "hope its not too artsy" (its just a black box).

Thanks Passive for using my desktops! More desktops are going up tonight, so i'll post in here when its done.

Matt - I would of liked the car more to the left of the frame to seperate. And as Nick said, green on green. And, i think cause i think its ugly, i don't like it, but thats just me.

Lighting wise it's excellent! Maybe try lighting it from a bit further away or use a diffuser? Bit harsh on the front end shot.

Also, try and paint it straight. That way in the rear shot, the white light across the top of the boot would be straighter and would detail it better i think?

Oh and thanks Basti for commenting on my blog

    • oh they were with that motor, you need to remove the engine to change the spark plugs (don't have to, but it does make it easier)
    • I certainly fall into the annoyed camp, but glad to hear that if it's happening at low boost then I'm not likely going to blow a turbo and end up with metal shards in my oil. Just feels like it prevents me from really driving it without hesitation and "peak" performance. Wonder if it's the VCAM, it did an impressive job of shifting the torque curve and faster spool, but maybe now it's "too fast" and there's too much air for how open the throttle is.  Based on some other threads, will also do some reading on synchronizing the actuators. They are the default actuators that come on the Garrett's and I would think they would be set the same coming from the factory, but if the turbos don't actually work exactly the same way at the same time as previously mentioned, it would be worth making sure the actuators are actuating together properly
    • I went down this rabbit hole before, ended up sourcing a motor from the UK (I'm in Japan) which also didn't function correctly. With the original motor, I disassembled it and reassembled it and it works somewhat, sometimes. What I could deduce from all my screwing around is that there is calibration of the gears on the inside of the motor and two ramps on the main gear which activate switches that operate the motor and move the sunroof either to retract into the roof or tilt. Where I got stuck was that, it seemed in my case that one or both of the switches that are activated by the ramp on the gear did not always activate and thus the motor did not move, causing it to sometimes not retract or tilt (apologies, I've forgotten which way it didn't work.).  Of course this part is discontinued at Nissan now, it's the same part in the S15 but no other models. I also contacted the manufacturer of the component for schematics - forgot the name, they're based in Gifu - but they declined to share the information due to being bound by an NDA, sadly. Looking through my pictures now, it seems I last had a crack at this in 2022. See, I so kindly wrote "open" and "close" next to the switches. If you figure it out, please do tell me. Those little switches, with the red buttons may need to be replaced.
    • It says 300ZX, does that make it an Aus delivered car? Funny how back in the day I just couldn't care less about Z32's and these days I am just in love with them. Back when Nissan was into pushing the envelope. 🤣
