Hi all.

I have a S2 R33 GTS-T with the common mods: 3 inch turbo back, high flow filter and an R34 SMIC, std 5/7psi boost.

The car has also been serviced thouroughly, new plugs (0.9mm), timing belt, timing set, all new oils etc etc

The car runs great! and performs very well and smoothly given the basic mods, for what it is Im thrilled with it.

I have just bought an R32 GTS-T actuator (10psi).

I want to put this in the car, my plan was to put it in and baby it down to status dyno and get the AFRs checked and make sure its all safe.

Now my question is, I know it will not be tuned and will run rich but will I see alot of improvement over stock? or will it overfuel so badly that I might as well not do it and wait until I can afford a nistune?

keen to hear peoples thought

Regards.

mate you dont need to baby it to a dyno lol! all your doing is upping the boost a few psi, 10psi is fine on the stock turbo and for the ecu in most cases, and it will have twice the boost in the mid range, should go a whole lot better.

only thing is it will run abit rich. and the normal rb flat spots will be more noticable... tune fixes that though.

dude, you'll be fine, there are guys running 12psi with stock ecus and shiet and their A/F are safe, when I say that, rich as fk :D

I don't know why guys pay big bucks to put their car on a dyno when they up their boost a tiny bit and say their car has been 'dyno tuned' when they only have had their boost controllers setup.

yeah it might be a hit and miss, it may work ok or it may be enough to trip the factory R&R triggered by too much airflow meter load

the R32 actuator is actually rated a bit around, around 11PSI is enough to make the spring open according to factory specs from nissan

actuators can be had for similar money and won't get you defected :action-smiley-069:

i had an r32 actuator on my stock turbo, with full exhaust and FMIC it was fine, noticeable improvement without any serious drawbacks

maybe if it's free, why not right?

once again, I will re-iterate, don't waste your time on a dyno

it is not a waste of time if his computer has the stock maps, even without a boost increase a remap on the dyno would be of great value, more power, response and better fuel economy.

Some ECU's crack it @ 9psi, some are fine with 12psi.

Its just luck of the draw. Either way just dont go giving it heaps of curry until you get it checked out.

End of the day all that will happen is it'll hit R&R mode in epic fashion anyway.

Mate I have a S2 R33 FMIC,3.5 exaust, Pod with an EBC I'm running 10psi with no dramas, I get 450km in a good week. But I still want to put it on the dyno to see if it can do any better but for now it's great. Give it a go before spending the money

yeah only reason for using this over EBC is factory look.

I might give it a shot, no point in doing it yet if im going to hit R&R as i already suffer from this on really really cold nights.

What would i expect to pay for a basic tune (remap) on a baisc setup like mine, say nistune remap

I paid $300 for the unit when I supplied the ECU, a basic safe tune was then $300. Depending on your level of mods and if they can use a decent base map that just needs to be tweaked a full tune where they tweak and check everything can vary from $500 to $1500.

thanks guys, might give it a go, jsut worried about getting a flat spot which i currently dont have. Have been looking into toshi's remaps (business trader on this site) anyone had any experience with his retunes with a similar combo as mine?

ps my car has a new walbro fuel pump now

yep $90-100 for a few runs. But if your going to be upping the boost a few psi, it will run richer not leaner, especially if it has a new fuel pump. So checking the afr's are not going to tell you anything new, 10:1 afrs in the top end or even worse

    • What bedding in procedure did you use?   When you say stutter, what exactly do you mean? Like it feels like someone letting go of the brakes momentarily and regrabbing them again to get you to stop? Re-reading your post, and that is what it kind of makes me think you're explaining, like theres a little bit of a jolt, likely just as you're reaching a stop. I've only had this issue once. And if its caused by what caused mine, you will want to get the car up on stands again and check it over. Mine was a case of a caliper mounting bolt coming out and letting the caliper rotate on the other remaining bolt and gave play in a wheel as it came to a stop. But not every stop either!
    • Yeop... binned it   This will be a summary will not many pics atm and cbf  Fixed the samsonas - it was totally munched Put a new precision 7675 T4 on with proper split pulse mani Got to Sydney to get to car - drove to canberra to get racecar - drive back to sydney that night Next day all day at Plasmaman putting on new clamps cleaning some things up and adding another large engine oil cooler sitting at the rear above diffuser to keep things cooler Next day - Tuesday - on Dyno - killer wikid awesome pumped out really good numbers - more mid range and on lower boost levels Wednesday - first prac - all day again getting the suspension right - had to borrow front suspension again - out do a lap come in - out do a lap - in - what i had just couldnt handle the load at the more consistent higher speeds - got a lap in at the end of the day that was pretty reasonable  Put it this way that lap wouldve had me in 4th in Pro am for the whole event - with only 700 hp and used tyres Thurs first official prac day - lap out warm up - then entered a hotlap with above setting and 80% effort took corners 1,2,3 and into 4 car felt awesome -  rear came around out of nowhere bang into the wall near front on at whatever 140 kmph Done, over, gone Just one of those how did that happen apparently as all indications show nothing out of the ordinary Got to spend the rest of the time at the event like I hadnt done before - was actually Ok mainly as I had my family and my boy is 9 and got treated like a rockstar Long trip home, lost a trailer wheel in nowhere land, X5 airbag suspension gave up half way across nullabour and rode on bumps stops (its now completely fine) had to do a 19 hr drive day on day 3 as accommodation got screwed up so just had to keep driving till found a town with some Now to reassess - hopefully the motor and other things are OK but yet to be seen too. There is no easy fix there is no i'll just order that part and get it sent - we'll have a talk to people see what can happen and what the go is but at minimum its rebuild from scratch struts forward and alot of time effort and $ should and if I return and if but maybe/ when  I have the cage tied into the front strut towers - if I didnt have that things couldnt been worse you can say its just a front end but if you know what goes into these cars... you'll know what that actually means in reality   Car was very fast. Disappointing we just didnt get to show it Effort doesnt win you races though     Apparently this is motorsport !
    • Thanks, will do that.  Thankfully they still feel great.
    • Yeah man, absolutely. You can try pushing me all the way in swapping the R34 for an E9x M3
    • It's almost certainly going to be some amount of pads compound transfer onto the rotors. It will probably go away after you've run them for a bit. If not, pull it all out, lightly sand the rotors, scuff the pads, and rebed.
