Just wondering, it is ok to mix fuel of the same RON, as in mixing Shell V Power and BP Ultimate for example? sometimes when you are running low on fuel you have no choice but to fill up at the next nearest servo.

Should be fine mate, I think petrol stations would be in some deep sh!te if their petrol additives were incompatible with other companies additives...

I do it all the time, whatever 98 RON is cheapest/available. Never noticed a problem.

yes it is. it is even ok to mix different RON fuels (provided your car is designed to run on the different ratings). so for example you have a car that runs on regular unleaded, you could put in regular 1 time, 98 the next and E10 the next and it shouldn't really make a difference.

i do actually remember hearing once about some stupid law from back in the dark ages (so to speak) about it being illegal to mix different fuels. basically that it was illegal to fill up from different fuel stations. just one of those stupid laws like how it's illegal to reverse onto a road (so reversing out of your driveway is actually illegal, as is reversing out of nose in angle parking spaces)

Some pretty clear and interesting results. Seems most people here use 98 and BP is out in front followed by Shell and Caltex. Still I'm curious if BP actually do have a higher standard for their 98 or if it's a bit of an urban legend type of thing.

depends on what state you are in to whether you are actually even getting bp ultimate from the bp bowser or not. in some states you may be getting ultimate from a shell bowser. it's all down to what companies have refineries in your state.

Seeing as I'm on the Gold Coast, the closest refineries would be in Brisbane. Do you know what refineries operate there by any chance?

LOL wut?

So they want you to reverse park everywhere you go...

As for the poll, I've being using only Caltex 98 for the past year or so as it is the cheapest one around my area (~$1.25 with fuel card). & we don't have that shell V-power thing in WA (Shell only have up to RON 95 here).

god dammit shell NZ sucks. i used to live in a town that didnt have 98. then when shell launched v-power they advertised it as a "high performance fuel developed with ferrari" and all that other marketing BS, that would lead most to believe it would have to be 98. but no, they basically just re-labelled the plain old 95 as v-power. kunce.

^^^ But now you do live in Christchurch that does have a few 'RON 98' outlets Jon?

yea christchurch has several BP's with 98. just a shame i haven't been able to make use of it yet. the cars been parked up the whole time

back in nelson, my car would only run properly when i'd recently done a road trip down here and it still had 98 in the tank. completely different vehicle with that stuff in it. its got some dodgy tune in the computer from the previous owner in auckland.

BP or Shell 98. Don't think i've seen a caltex or mobil with 98 before, but since buying the skyline I never been anywhere else besides bp and shell :(

Caltex has ethanol instead. :D

I just hope the rollout happens quickly. It shouldn't be long, a few years, and most of the tuned cars will be running e85 I guess.

Figured I'd put together a poll to see what fuels people are using in their Skylines. Looking forward to seeing the results

Is it worth adding "Low aromatic Shell Unleaded" in here?

(still no idea how that's a selling point for fuel... kind interesting tho)

j/k btw

strange that the shell v-power would be 95 in NZ, it's 98 in Aus.. or have i missed something?

I work at a caltex servo here in tas, so naturally i put 98 from caltex in it. Only really buy it from my servo cause i get it cheaper and i know that the tank its in is a brand new one with absolutly no crap in it. Used to get bp ultimate cause thats all ya could get here, but haven't touched it in a while (very over priced) and i think im getting slightly better economy on the caltex fuel. Noticing a lot more people coming into work and getting 98 and then complaining about bp being a rip off though. Haha.

    • HG's high flow is not "bolt on". The core is shorter, moves the comp cover rearwards in the engine bay. means you have to deal with the inlet plumbing a little bit. This is probably something to consider with every "bolt on" turbo anyway.
    • HyperGear. Just get a high flow of the stocker. Good, reliable, and should bolt on. Yes it will want things like a retune once done, so you need to factor this in to your spend too.
    • Hi. Iam looking for some "cheaper" bolt on turbo on RB25DET NEO. I do not want "big" power just better reliability than the stock turbo which is "fot now" good but is old and i do not think it has "easy" life. One the Skyline here running some "temu" china Turbo but i dont trust those... Thanks!
