Chibs
Hi Guys, Just noticed a spot on the car which looks like little bubbles and are kind of sticking out creating a rough surface.... I assume this is rust... It is just to the left of the rear quarter window and its doing my head in! Is this common? Anyone else had the same problem? And how can i get it off ! mad082
go to a panel beater. the actual amount of rust will be much larger than what is visible. a panel beater will be able to remove the rust (grind it back to where it is metal), and if it has penetrated all the way through the metal then you can have the hole welded up. if it is too big then they will cut a section out and weld a new piece in. i recently had two bubbles of rust removed from around the rear window of the missus pulsar. this is what they did. this is also the only way to get rid of the rust. Chris Rogers
rust: rear wheel wells inside car forward of seats in sills. happens when the car is jacked up wrong- fix is new sills in/out affects BOTH sides C Pillar towards rear of car where glass meets body - BOTH SIDES rear panel under tail lights and licence plate area - more so if its had a tap. chassis rails - especially if they are crushed. Roof around sunroof area thats most of mine. the minor rust can be cut out and fixed - any competent panel shop can do that with a grinder and brass. the major stuff - new parts. Dan_J
the reason why you have rust in certain window, boot and seam areas is because they use a sealant to stop water getting in, as it brakes down in the years water will stay there work its ways though the paint and primer and cause rust. so in conclusion pending on age and last time it was applied reseal all these areas if you dont want water build up causing rust Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/336741-rust/#findComment-5483094 Share on other sites

Bit of a misconception that its just Northern Honshu & Hokkaido is only place for salt. They pretty much spray salt on highways over winter in Kanto, Chubu,Kansai regions but definitely its for a longer period in Hokkaido & Tohoku. The thing you do get down Honshu is rust from coastal areas. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/336741-rust/#findComment-5483116 Share on other sites
BezerkR32
like this. this started as rust around the wheel arch, but when we pulled the quarter off it was much worse. replaced quarters with gtr quarter panels. TurboDoseBro
And how much does it cost to remove?? For example a rear quarter. Do those electromagnetic rust preventers you strap to the car to prevent/stop rust work? Chris Rogers
panels are $800+ a side and then labour/paint. if you can't do it your self expect a 4 figure repair bill. I am in process of doing mine and that is : roof ($700) rear drivers quarter : $800+ sills $1k set inner B-C brace $300 rear beaver panel $300. that is PARTS ONLY. I'm doing the removal myself. should give you an idea. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/336741-rust/#findComment-5738701 Share on other sites
TurboDoseBro
WHAT THE FUUUUUU!!! That's like buying another GTS-T... What about fish oil or rust dissolver? Would they work? I think rust is one of the most underrated problems with Skylines. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/336741-rust/#findComment-5741868 Share on other sites
