replace 26 sump with sump from rwd RB engine series, minor mod to the rwd sump to have room for oil pick up. Lots of $$$ required to purchase 26 engine then do the conversion, so build a full rb30 works out better for rwd. :O

  • 5 months later...

Thing is if you build up an RB30 bottom end, which all costs $$$ you then need a turbo to make power. If you buy an RB26, even with the std turbos you can make 250rwkws.... i dont know, cant decide myself, but i suggest you make up your mind for sure before you start buying parts...secret to doing things at the right price, ie cheaply is planning, which issomething i havent done well

Dont forget things like rxhaust, IC plumbing, clutch...al adds quickly to the cost....and speakin to someone who had done this conversion recently, he seemed to believe modifying the std sump is better then modifying the pick up.

go to force induction discussion and read the thread "rb30". cheaper and can say better than go for a rb26 for a gts-t

Not necessarily. If you can get a good condition Rb26dett at a reasonable price I would say the conversion would be cheaper. But if the engine blew up after you'd put it in then it would get very expensive. May also fetch more money on resale as the "oh its got a GTR engine in it" might appeal more but that is debateable.

and also what llwells said above. .. they're differnt engines with different strengths and weaknesses.

hi japtaxi, can you please explain further why would we need to replace the rb26 sump?

I'm doing the conversion this month...

rb26 sump is cast, heavy, and has front diff casing+bits that you need to chop them off before you can put the engine in (you might as well add baffle plate while you at it). Whether it is legal or not depends on the engineer/your state vehicle mod law. Compare to rb25 sump, it is sheet metal, lighter, easier to chop/weld, add baffle etc etc.

There's always the option of rebuilding a R32 RB25DE with a set of forged pistons to hold big power.

While your there throw a set of RB26DETT crank and rods in there. Not sure if the crank is needed, I think just the rods. Its been covered here on SAU many times.

Or throw a thicker headgasket in to the stock R32 RB25DE motor, bolt on all the rb20 sensors and off you go.

Sure the RB26DETT is the king BUT is it really worth the extra $$ when you could build up a RB26DET using the R32 RB25DE motor for much cheaper.

+ you would have a nice fresh bottom end with a nice shinny set of forgy's in there.

I'm starting to sound like a broken record.

im starting it next week so ill probably document it in one way or another.

once its done ill be happy to help out and answer any questions

should be a bit easier for me though, because i have a full running GTR to use so everything is there and just needs to be swapped over.

Hey mate, might be a stupid question, but why would you pull apart a full running GTR to transplant it to a GTS-t? No offense, but it sounds like sacrilege to me :D

I hope you tell us that it has a bent chassis or something, and what you mean is that the running gear is fine

ive just finished one on a r33.

we started modifying the original gtst sump and to be honest, it takes some buchery. we cut the diff off the gtr sump and welded it up, much neater and i would prefer the extra capacity.

the conversion looks simple, just dont underestimate the hours involved with all the bits an pieces u have to modify, if ur paying somone to do it, i reckon $2500 in labour is reasonable.

so working on a $5000 rb26, the conversion should set u back around $8k if ur paying someone to do it.

    • I have more than enough digging, laying blocks, moving gravel, airrating, feeding and top soiling the grass, and setting up the veggie gardens growing some seedlings,  and then removing all the unused rock to keep me busy for the next few months at least,  hopefully the rain stops soon so I can get a few hours in this arvo, but, before that Sunday is washing day, is every body happy, you bet your life we are Nice country road day drives are a day off whenever I'm muscle sore from all the landscaping at the moment, but, more epic multiple day drives will start once the majority of the big jobs outside are completed
    • I hear that would involve some nice country road drives into the hills for Mark...
    • I thought I'd come back and add something I JUST learned. A Toyota LandCruiser with a 1HZ, mates perfectly with a bottle of Nulon brake fluid. As in, it perfectly screws in. Great make shift funnel when you cut the bottom of it off. This may work for your Corolla.   Unfortunately, tipping a 10L drum is much harder than a 4 to 6L bottle, and they no longer include the easy pour tap which was just perfection to use previously.
    • Guys since i bought r33 gts25t coupe 1994 automatic a/t(manual swap 350z gearbox)  all i got is problems, always problems. Lets start with that when i turn key into ignition(ON) fuel pump doesnt always works. Sometimes i have to turn key twice Off/on/off/on until it primes. Its new, dw300 - 340lph. My gearbox broke so i did gearbox swap, install different intake manifold, injectors and i take pipes. Car was sitting in garage for more than half a year. I did assembly all not that long ago and when i turn ignition cant hear prime. All of sudden it stopped working. Theres many videos on YouTube how to make relay mod on r33 straight from battery so i did and it doesnt work! 😰 30 - battery positive  87 - positive from fuel pump to relay 85, 86 - one of two wires from original fuel pump wires(light blue, grey) and it didn’t work. so I check on ignition and took original BLUE relays wires from trunk, next to fuses. (I believe it’s IGN+ and ECU pin 18. it didn’t work…  tried connecting (IGN+ from og relay) and (ECU 104 from 1of4 FPCM wires) to my new relay 85/86 and it didn’t work.  I unplug FPCM. Didn’t work. im thinking what’s wrong   fuel pump is working, if I leave IGN+ on 85 and 86 straight to ground it works but it’s just nonstop. Since it getting constant 12v after key in ON. light blue wire gives me 6-8v.  so how this should be connected? What causing ECU not giving — on pin? Or I did sth wrong and that’s why it doesn’t work? I need negative signal on ECU that control fuel pump. What this should be?
    • You can use your VIN to look up the factory part number somewhere like amayama, and then look to order new if necessary. https://www.amayama.com/en/genuine-catalogs/nissan Depending on price you might want to rebuild instead. @GTSBoy I had an interesting insight into US market parts when the Titan rear calipers were sticking. New calipers were dirt cheap, about 20% more than a rebuild kit....they are just considered throw away maintenance items
