hmm I must ask Tamma about this.

Also he reckons that the standard pump is good for 300rwkw? He reckons I just need bigger injectors...

your stock pump is almost a 10 years old - designed to run pump.

you sure you wanna take the chance?

Huh? I'm talking bout the lpg pump...

oh my bad. i was wondering after i wrote that? 'what would you use for start up?' my bad.

agree with Scott - on lpg i think you'll be pushing close to the limit of the pump.

Hmm I'm gonna change my mind and get the LPG done AFTER the tune. Spoke to the JTG distributor who advised this is the easiest way.

I think I'm going to run E85 + Gas...this would minimise the timing issues when switching fuel right? (get it tuned for say, 105 RON)....

LPG RON can fluctuate considerably from what I have been told.

105 may be a little ambitious unless you are filling up on Supagas's "Premium" LPG all the time (Guaranteed 110RON)

+1 either way, there'll be the issue of this. Sage222 had an idea on the previous page to simply just fuel cut and shut off near empty - instead of switch fuels.

This would mean you would be able to flick the switch on the emanage.

without continuously driving thinking its still on gas.

Sounds like the way I would be doing it too, however you may need to go back to your tuner to optimize the tune between both fuels once your conversion has been done, unless the installers you are using are proficient in tuning as well, most are not and don't have dyno facilities etc.

Absolutely right!

From personal experience the RON and quality varies considerably....

I would say anywhere between 100 and 110 depending on the supplier/source and the final mix of propane/butane and who knows what other additives/impurities there are!

Yes I have used the claimed Supagas stuff extensively and even that varies by a lot....

LPG fitters and tuners that have been around for a long time will tell you that years ago LPG was much higher octane rating 110+ RON was not uncommon, and you did not have to go to Supagas to get it, BP, shell, mobil, caltex all had it.

The problem with LPG is that the quality varies so much and some manufacturers won't even specify it as a minimum RON,

as Supagas will not publish thier RON ratings either, but a properly tuned performance motor (especially forced induction) does run better with it.

Hmm Tamme from Seaview Gas called and said the car's almost converted...said somthing about my bigger intercooler being in the way????

He said that he had my injectors flow tested and claims they're larger then what Sage222 had in his car??!?!?!? I asked him for a figure and he said he can't remember :rofl2:

He's put larger gas jets in also...to give a bit of leeway with the upcoming tune.

Could it be that because of the mod's on my the ECU is dumping more fuel and hence it appears that it's flowing more?

Lol at them gestimating fuel mixtures, I thought you were getting the gas done after the tune...

The stock computer could be doing anything, until you get on a dyno you wont know. (although Cam has similar mods and has been running with no issues.)

Yeah was going to but Cihan thinks its prolly less hassle doing the gas first...no need to return for retune...

We'll see what happens...apparently there is a overide switch which can keep the car running on petrol...should come in handy for the tune

great time to do it mate.. saw 1.55 for regular today.. ouch.

id say that your injectors would be flowing more if your running aftermarket management.. look forward to the results!

my mate filled up at supagas 100% propane for $.57c per litre today. laughing!

Nah I don't have aftermarket engine management fitted...yet

which is strange...we'll find out this arvo I guess!

hmm no, I haven't modded my ECU.

I said that I think the ECU might be dumping more fuel due to the mods (suction pipe, intercooler, exhaust) done to the car...

its the stock ECU...nothing added/changed...

Oops reread my post...yeah I said the wrong thing

Gah...apparently the car wasn't ready this Arvo. I only found out when I was halfway there on the train and rang them up. Apparently they can't get the fuel mixture right so its going on the dyno tomorrow...they better not charge me extra!! They want my new Denso plugs too...that means I need another set for the tune in 2 weeks time?

    • The oil pressure sensor for logging, does it happen to be the one that was slowly breaking out of the oil block? If it is,I would be ignoring your logs. You had a leak at the sensor which would mean it can't read accurately. It's a small hole at the sensor, and you had a small hole just before it, meaning you could have lost significant pressure reading.   As for brakes, if it's just fluid getting old, you won't necessarily end up with air sitting in the line. Bleed a shit tonne of fluid through so you effectively replace it and go again. Oh and, pay close attention to the pressure gauge while on track!
    • I don't know it is due to that. It could just be due to load on track being more than a dyno. But it would be nice to rule it out. We're talking a fraction of a second of pulling ~1 degree of timing. So it's not a lot, but I'd rather it be 0... Thicker oil isn't really a "bandaid" if it's oil that is going to run at 125C, is it? It will be thicker at 100 and thus at 125, where the 40 weight may not be as thick as one may like for that use. I already have a big pump that has been ported. They (They in this instance being the guy that built my heads) port them so they flow more at lower RPM but have a bypass spring that I believe is ~70psi. I have seen 70psi of oil pressure up top in the past, before I knew I had this leak. I have a 25 row oil cooler that takes up all the space in the driver side guard. It is interesting that GM themselves recommend 0-30 oil for their Vette applications. Unless you take it to the track where the official word is to put 20-50w oil in there, then take that back out after your track day is done and return to 0-30.
    • Nice, looks great. Nice work getting the factory parts also. Never know when you'll need them.
    • Thanks @jtha7 I will have a look around tomorrow but it is a prick of a spot. These are some photos i tried taking
    • I take it that the knock retard is from bearings tapping a little tune? Thicker oil is a fragile bandaid. You need a much bigger oil cooler and probably the bigger pump being discussed.
