Im wondering if anyone can help, it seems to be getting alot more fequent. The whole car is shaking under acceleration its happened about 5 times over the last month, it first did it about 2 years ago and as soon as you take your foot off it doesnt do it again Before it started becoming regualar its happened like about 2 or 3 time in the last 2 years. Im just wondering what it could be cause if i take it the the mechanics it will more than likely wont do it.

Can you describe the shaking? Is it like a side-side vibration, or a surging/rough running of the engine, etc. Especially, do you feel it through the wheel?

Got the same thing , seems to happen more when in `auto` second gear , i think that it is the gearbox as have checked drive shafts and no play there !

Sorry i should of been more explanitory with it, tyres and reasonably new with correct tyre pressures an have all been balanced recently.

The shake is small vibration that can be felt through every part of the car and get worse if i excelerate more when it happens and disapears as soon as i take my foot off the accelerator and then doesnt happen again. Its totally random when it happens and it doesnt happen very often. I do alot of driving so i cant really have a mate follow me round for 2 - 3 weeks hopeing this shake will occur.

It has become more fequent. Im not sure but it could be related to the attessa system as i drove it with the spare tyre on for around 3km and when i did the whole car was shaking violently 100x more than when it does it now due to the fact the tyre being 30mm smaller in height than my stock wheels, when that happened the torque gauge was on permenently. I cant remember if it gotten worse since then for the simple fact is that its very very occasional but it does seem to be getting worse and was there before i did that.

It feels to me as though something is off balance to do with the engine or drive train just by the way it happens but if you would think if that was the case it would do it all the time. It doesnt feel like rough/surging engine because it doesnt seem to affect power but if i put my foot down it does seem to get worse

Hope that answers all your questions.

Atessa fluid levels been checked? Does it feel like milder version of shaking like having the spacesaver on?

Havent checked fluid levels but i will straight away sortly and get back to you.

yeah sorta, its hard to tell cause the small shake that it makes is so minimal compared to the shaking that was made when i had the space saver on

It's funny that this topic comes up now - one of the things I plan on doing this weekend is getting under my Stag and having a look-see, as it too gets the shudders on under hard acceleration - but only sometimes.

I've tried driving with the synchroniser active (and I know how this function works) - no change.

It tends to be a 'once your going' issue, I don't remember it happening from 0km/h.

The steering column 'shakes', but it's not like the rotational shaking that an unbalanced wheel will cause.

The ATTESA is working on my car, the front wheels will chatter if the Synchroniser is on at low speed and high steering angles - as it should, it also has gobs of grip when you give it heaps of lateral load and throttle. That's not to say that the problem isn't somehow related to the AWD system.

There has also been a slight vibration at 100-110km/h which I would normally attribute to wheel balance - but it can come & go while at a steady state speed.

I'm convinced the issue is in the front end, and I know it's not worn shocks. I might pull the front shaft today and see if the issues are present in RWD-only.

Mine shakes like this but only sometimes, usually when I have less grip. Its definitely related to the front wheels/ transfer case as it only happens when the front torque gauge is pinned, and is more common when I come out of a corner hard, or accelerate downhill. Its been happening for over a year now and it's not getting any worse, I just figure its the wheels slipping taking up the slack in the drivetrain for a second then repeating.

I would have thought GTR's would have similar issues if this was an Attessa problem though.

Hi BEN,

Welcome back! What rock have you been hiding under?

First thing I would be doing is ECU reset, followed by a bleed of the attessa system (remember there is two nipples one on the rear or the gear box just above the hi-pressure line and one just above the rear diff).

Then checking wheels.

The 'getting the DR30 ready for the Nationals last month', 'getting ready for the birth of our second child last month' and 'getting the Z ready for Nationals in Easter 2011' rock!

:P

There are no codes in the ECU (I have an ECUTalk), but I will check the fluid situation. The issue was present with other tyres and wheels in different positions, so I'm inclined to think it's a bit 'deeper' in the driveline.

my m35 got new tie-rod bushers the other day and the vibration at 100 is gone, plus it also got a wheel alignment today. (they looked like a long bolt with a busher over the top and t piece shaped on one end)

ive got a printed out breakdown of the front suspension on paper .. ill have to scan it and put it up with part numbers

My stagea is a manual and i dont believe its the same issue, as mine does it anytime, doesnt have to be under hard accecleration but accerating normally it does it and my shake it not really from the steering column, its the whole car, and it always happens at a slower sort of speed say from 20-80km/h.

checked attessa fluid level and its all good.

Fair enough.

I dove my car for about 3 hours in the Adelaide Hills today (with the family, but still semi-brisk - we were pressed for time!) and I don't recall it giving me any grief.

I attempted to remove transfer case/diff shaft later today, but why the hell does Nissan insist on making the flanges just that little too small to fit a ring spanner or socket onto (my Z is the same!). The fasteners were just too tight for a successful hasty removal, so I abandoned that line of work (for the time being) and just bled the ATTESA. No obvious signs of worn/torn or otherwise stuffed suspension parts. Next step will be a wheel balance and rotation.

ECU reset? :) How is an ECU reset going to fix a steering shuddering problem? :)

:(

Had this same problem last year (not with the Stagea tho). Turned out to be a very minor amount of play in the CV joint. Get under the car, grab the CV shaft and you'll find it will move ever so slightly, hard to notice unless you are looking for it ... maybe 0.5mm. This is enough to shudder under hard acceleration.

Hope this is what you are looking for. If you don't know what you are looking for, take it to a front end specialist and ask them to check out the CV shaft play and lower arms, and tie rods too (but normally tie rods shudder the car under heavy braking).

:(

Im sure u got the same problem as i have, its very random. i found it did it when u let your foot off the throttle for a corner or roundabout and when u get back on it starts to shake realy violently but as soon as u back off the throtle and get back on it totally disapears? im thinking attessa because ive had mine i rwd (front shaft removed) since the dyno tune and it feels alot smoother now. its not sumthn thats out of balance because it doesnt get better or worse with speed im thinkn transfer case or sumthn. or its just slack in the gtr drivline they are overbuilt.

Are your tyres getting worn, rear relative to front??

Methinks attessa is the issue.

DEFINATLY NOT , HAD THE ATTESSA WINDING UP THING WITH UN EVEN FRONT TO REAR GIVES A KANGAROOING SURGING FEELING

THE SENSAITION IS AS IF SOMETHING IS STUCK BETWEEN THE BODY AND THE ENGINE / EXHAUST WHEN THE CAR IS RUNNING CAUSING A VIBRATION THROUGH THE BODY - A BIT LIKE ALL 4 WHEELS ARE LOOSE OR THE SAME AS AN UN BALANCED PROP SHAFT
