JB hardly showed the mobile Brazilian speed bump the way during his stint with Brawn F1. It is not like he is intimidating the emo. It is more a case of LH sucking/not coping with the Pirellis.

I think LH is like Tiger, he needs the puss to drive well.

Really? He won 6 races to Ruben's 2, and over the 17 races the head to head finishes were 12 to 4 in JB's favour. Sounds pretty convincing to me. Ansd that was back when Rubens still had some pace.

Jenson's arrival coincided nicely with Louie's form slump

You mean he had to do an amazing job to put Heikki into the shade? Hell, I would smash Heikki :(

Lewis had a great first year when his head was screwed on right. He didn't bin cars, make mistakes. His focus was F1 and trying to beat the current F1 yardstick that is Alonso

These days his head isnt there which allows guys like Button to match him. He thinks he has proven himself and excuses explain why he isnt a multiple WDC by now. Button is by no means a hack. But he has managed the tyres this year better then Hackilton this year. Same problem that has affected Webber and Massa has affected Homo's ability to win races.

Button had bugger all experience when he found his way into F1. He needed a few years more racing and winning championships and testing like most others had to do. The fact that he was dropped into the acid of F1 so young and inexperienced its no wonder it took him a few years to stop partying and chasing flange and trying to build on his natural ability. According to Button his head wasnt in the game until he drove for Honda and god some guidance from Richards.

He was quick in a quick car...wow.

I am saying Rubens didn't have much pace at all even then.

no, you were saying "JB hardly showed the mobile Brazilian speed bump the way during his stint with Brawn F1".

6 to 2

12 to 4

= shown the way

and they were both in the fast car. not sure why you made that comment?

So MW has the fastest lap award in the bag now?

What?

Roy was making the point that a number of drivers have been badly affected by the new Pirelli tyre. Webber is one, Massa another.

A fundamental change in the tyres rewards different driving styles. For example Buttons "easy on tyres" reputation didnt count for much at various points in his career. In fact probably made qualifying far more difficult than it would have otherwise been.

With the new tyre, however, being gentle on tyres is a very important attribute for a driver. Vettel, Button, Alonso have made big gains in comparison to their team mates. Making a super soft option last a couple/three more laps means you do fewer laps on the shit prime tyre.

The Hamilton haters put it down to a million other things and whilst they have doubtless made a contribution I dont think people need to look too much further than the tyres this year as a reason for changes in intra team competitiveness.

Scary thing is the testing at the moment is telling us that next years tyres and generall going to be softer and more fragile. :( There goes Webber having any chance. Lets go back to cold blown diffusers on last years tyres. The people in the know have commented the cars were pretty tricky to drive and Webber had the edge over Vettel in driving the tricky RBR. Come Hungary when RBR introduced the hot blown diffuser, sure Webber was mega quick and won the race...but he wasnt as quick as Vettel and it was the beginning of the change :(

The thing (apart from the rubbish tyres) that annoys me is that the rules are now so proscriptive that even the weight distribution of the cars has to be within a tiny range. Bloody ridiculous.

Guessing Webber is going to back out of the sport without winning another GP. Still atleast we have another yocal in there, even if it is with the Hormone Replacement Therapy mob.

texas is going.

Earlier this week, construction on the Circuit of The Americas ground to a halt because of a dispute between Formula One, race promoters and developers.Tavo Hellmund's Full Throttle Production was believed to own the rights to host the race, however, the contract was recently cancelled by Ecclestone after Hellmund was found to be in breach.

And although Ecclestone attempted to agree a deal with the Circuit of The Americas, COTA claimed in a statement that "the contract between Formula One and Circuit of The Americas has not been conveyed to Circuit of The Americas per a previously agreed upon timetable."

This has thrown the race's place on the 2012 calendar into doubt with Ecclestone saying the only reason there is no contract is because COTA have not issued a guarantee that the F1 supremo will be paid.

"We've done everything we bloody well can do to make this race happen," Ecclestone told Press Association.

Explaining the situation, the 81-year-old said: "We had an agreement with Full Throttle Productions.

"Everything was signed and sealed, but we kept putting things off like the dates, various letters of credit and things that should have been sent, but nothing ever happened.

"Then these other people (COTA) came on the scene, saying that they wanted to do things, but that they had problems with Tavo.

"They said they had the circuit, and that they wanted an agreement with me. I told them they had to sort out the contract with Tavo, which they said they would.

"But that has gone away now because we've cancelled Tavo's contract as he was in breach.

"We've waited six months for him to remedy the breach. He knows full well why we've cancelled. He's happy.

"But these other people haven't got a contract. All we've asked them to do is get us a letter of credit.

"We are looking for security for money they are going to have to pay us. That is via a letter of credit, normally from a bank.

"If people don't have the money they find it difficult to get the letter of credit, and so we don't issue a contract."

Pressed as to whether the United States GP will be dropped when the official calendar is revealed on December 7th, Ecclestone said: "Yes, it will be, for sure, 100 percent."

that sucks man, i wanted to go there.

anyways another day another kimi rumour.

According to British motorsport journalist Joe Saward, it "is not as simple as most team-driver negotiations as I hear that Raikkonen is looking to acquire some equity in the team."

I remeber about a week ago somebody told me that kimi had also been talking to Renault, which i though far fetched considering the awkward spat he had with Eric Boullier not to long ago.

But now?

Vitaly Petrov hits out at Renault over lack of progress

Vitaly Petrov's future at Renault has been thrown into doubt after the Russian driver launched an amazing outburst against the team this week, in the first public sign of friction between himself and team management.

With Kubica looking more and more unlikey, it looks like theres a seat free at Renault, in 2012 at least

Ah but it not only the driver who is relevant to tyre care, the car is too. Observing MW fighting the Red Bull in traffic while Vettel has cleared off into the clean air out front has become a common scenario, I'm surprised that it has not been generally realised that the Red Bull is a dog in dirty air which contributes significantly to tyre degradation.

Is it a dog in dirty air or do they run alot of down force with a (relatively) down on power motor (compare it to the MB brigades trap speeds)? Seeing the Red Bulls over take anything always looks like hard work. They are quick over a lap (maybe due to the downforce) but struggle to overtake.

So is it a downforce/drag thing or are you saying the car is inherently shit in and around others?

But either way you are right the effect of that is to make Webber look worse than he may otherwise.

what was Petrov's outburst? "Why haven't you cvnts provided me with a car worthy of my sublime driving talent!?"

    • Gday Thought it was about time I started a build thread! As expected this project has snowballed into a huge financial liability, but unless you’re strong willed and responsible, it’s not a surprise. Background -  My first turbo car was an R32 GTS-4, got my full license and then totalled my Au Falcon a week later, so while trying to sell my RMZ450 dirtbike to buy another car a bloke offered to swap the R32 which at the time I felt like I was ripped off but looking back and seeing prices of those now ($40kish) it was a good deal, I didn’t know enough about these cars to appreciate what I had so sold it before the RB20 blew up. Between here and there, out of 12 cars I’ve owned the note worthy ones are a V8 Lexus SC400 (soarer), a couple of XR6 Turbos and my beloved S15 which I had for about 3 years, picked it up for $12500, repairable write off but she was fine, gun metal grey/pewter and bone stock/unmolested until I got my hands on it. Ended up spending about the value of the car and 280kw, 2 demerit points by the time I got defected and sold it for $14500 (also $40kish in today’s market, rip) Fast forward to the present day, I’m in a much better position financially and daily an MQ Triton (great cars, pipe down Ranger Bois), I cruised marketplace and car sales for a few months looking for another R32, the best deal I could find was an absolute rust bucket half finished project for $12000, until this R33 popped up in Port Macquarie for $18k - unregistered and barely running but decent shape, kept an eye on it for a few weeks and the price steadily dropped, $16k then $15k then $14k, that was the point where I was like shit someone’s gonna snatch this up! It was owned by a young bloke who had big plans but him and his missus just had a baby so smartest move financially for them but big gain for me. So 2 days later I’m towing a car trailer to pick this thing up. Roughly 2 weeks and $3500 later I’m cruising around Newcastle in my beat up R33 all smiles and dose noises! It only needed some basic shit to get it going, coil packs and air flow meter, electrical stuff and all fluids changed, 158k kms and running pretty good, nice smooth engine after oil and coolant flush - when I say coolant I mean it had been filled up with tap water, every gallery and heater element was filled with rust, 8-9 flushes later and still had brown liquid coming out but she’ll be right. The car was painted R34 Bayside Blue at some point but whether it was a cheap job or just not looked after is anyone’s guess, clear coat flaking like sausage roll.  Was rethinking my choices and contemplating life, had it up for sale for $22k - still cheaper than any registered R33 but got little interest, next minute I had an opportunity at work - 6 months overseas for good money, so that was a no brainer, fast forward again and here we are with a 50% finished project. Current Mods - 200ish KW according to butt dyno Was tuned with Apexi PowerFC EBC (old school Greddy Profec)  Stock turbo (more shaft play than a Tinder date gone right) 3inch turbo back Varex muffler  Aftermarket injectors of mystery size, Power FC showed 36% duty cycle at full boost so not behd good size Someone had good intentions but stuck with the stock R33 MAF so we had misfires at 6000rpm due to the MAF hitting 5.2V So far I’ve redone the entire interior with carpet form Car Mats Direct, new Seats and steering wheel from Autotechnica, also sound system by Autobarn (mainly Kicker) Also MCA pro comfort coil overs - Hands down best purchase yet, worlds of improvement over the tired 30yrold shocks Goals - 450kw/600hp on flex tune New paint job - Midnight Purple 2 Engine is at the shop getting rebuilt with forged rods a pistons, new valves and springs, ATI Harmonic balancer, Aeroflow 7.5L sump, rear head drain and oil restrictors as per oil control thread* and cam covers modded for larger breathers, other stuff I can’t recall of the top of my head Parts purchased and to be installed once the engine is done -  Engine loom from Wiring Specialties including these options: Haltech Nexus S3 R35 Coil pack conversion  PRP Dual Trigger kit Fan controller  Other Parts -  262 Kelford Cams Turbo - Hypergear ATR43SS3-ProS with T51R mod (whistly boi) 6 boost manifold (high mount) 50mm Turbosmart Pro gate (plumbed back for legal reasons) HKS Super Turbo Exhaust with High Flow Cat Custom 3.5inch dump and front pipe 1500cc Bosch injectors  Fuel Pump walbro 525 Haltech MAP and IAT sensors Haltech Flex Sensor Fenix Radiator with dual thermo fans LS1 Alternator Kit Oil Filter Relocation from EFI solutions and Cooling pro oil cooler Many other things sitting in my garage waiting for that engine to come back. Progress pics to follow -
    • Losses have to be less with DC coupling. Provided the battery inverter has decent MPP tracking ability - which really shouldn't be a problem. It's not 2005 any more.
    • Hi, Will the R33 GTR rear brake backing plates fit a GTST? I'm struggling to find GTST ones but can find new GTR ones.   Thanks.
    • I also got the same floor mats for a bit of extra bazzaz haha
    • Some more close up pics now that I’m back to working on the car, the loop pile is nice but again haven’t compared it to the other types in person, it’s hard to tell from the pics on the website. View of the hemming on the edges too, it comes in 2 pieces - front and back, honestly very happy with it for anyone on the fence.  Also attached my previous pics from further up as it didn’t let me post them directly before. (Nothing worse than photo bucket pics that aren’t hosted anymore years later)
