Hi

The Calder date I am now reasonably sure of (well as sure as anything held there)

I am sort of debating if it should be twilight again or not.

There are advantages in twilight ..cheaper , great experience.

There are disadvantages .. track hire is for 6 hrs not 9.

I am running a vote on our forums ... but what do you lot think.

Royce from WRX club

It was a great spectacle last year. It is something you don't get to do that often. The venue is close to melbourne, friends and family

can come along. That out weighs the session or two you may miss for the event.

You had a few prangs last year, that slowed the event down. I don't see why you couldn't get through the groups quicker without

that issue. Knowing what you do now, parking (lack of), sign-in (30deg, line out the door) should be much better.

Our main problem this year was that a V8Ride day .. overflowed into our time. So we had location problems etc etc etc.

  • 2 weeks later...
  • 2 weeks later...
  • 3 weeks later...

Finally got my car registered, so I'm looking to do some track work this year. Can someone point me in the direction of where I can find out some more info on the SAU days, such as:

1) How much the events cost?

2) How I put my name down?

3) What the format of the day is (e.g. open pit, sessions etc.)?

4) Are there any non-competitive days?

5) Do I need a CAMS licence on top of my SAU membership? (and which one?)

I've done a fair amount of searching, but can't seem to find the answers to these questions.

Cheers

Dave

Hi Dave...couple of answers to your q's:

1. They vary depending on the circuit (some more $$$ than others) - expect to pay between $100 (haunted hills) to around $250 (phillip island).

2. A few weeks before the event the supp regs and entry forms are released....simply fill in and fax off. There is no pressure to do rounds - you do as many as you are willing to do. As long as you are a current SAUvic member and do at least one round you will be part of the championship.

3. Events are generally done on a session basis - based on experience/past lap time you will be placed in a group. They then cycle through the groups until closing time.

4. All the days are as competative as you want them to be - do not feel under pressure to set the world on fire at your first couple of events - just go out there and have some fun.

5. Yes you will require a CAMS L2S licence. They will cost around the $100 mark for a year. Don't have a link handy but all the info is on the CAMS website.

Cheers

Ant.

Thanks for that - I'll get on to getting my CAMS licence then.

Cheers

2. you can also use the online entry forms, http://www.wrx.com.au/motorsport.html

The CAMS website is a little bit of a maze, so this is what you want.

If you haven't been to the circuit before, just put down that you haven't been there. They will group you accordingly.

    • HFM BM57 has a "bad" knee point, IIRC. It's not the same thing as the later R chassis MC.
    • The ATTESSA is functionally identical to R34; there were a bunch of JDM models that continued ATTESSA including Fuga/Q70, Skyline/Q50, Cima etc as an option. All with Auto only and I think mostly for snow regions. AFAIK there were no AWD VR30DDTT sold in Australia - it is on my to do list to check regs for racing a LHD car in Targa/ATR/AASA/CAMS events because if I can get the auto to work it would be interesting to run a 4wd car The Ecuteck TCM tuning is the same model as their ECU tuning, they already have it for R35 and Dose's favourite, BMW. You buy "points" to allow your computer to be tuned, buy either a bluetooth (phone app) or bluetooth+USB+Key (phone and PC) dongle, and pay for a tune that will be locked to your tuner ( ). You can also access the tuning software yourself but 1. it is mega expensive and 2. these computers have a billion parameters that intersect, so how could you ever spend enough time on it to get a decent result.
    • Or, is it a case of what it is like owning an R series Skyline? NFI what the previous owner has done or fiddled with... Ha ha ha After reading through this thread, I went on a bit of a research about the Q50/Q60. Now I'm quite intrigued by them! Is the AWD in them more like a WRX where it's always AWD, or is it more like the ATTESSA in the GTRs? By the sound of this TCU tuning, this sounds like a case of someone has made some real software for it, and you just need the right piece of hardware, and then you license that specific vehicle/TCU. Or is this a case of the software will be really expensive so only a few tuners have it, and you still have to pay a license per vehicle?
    • By popular demand.. it was a coil. Got my hands on 1 new OEM coil, replaced with the one that made the less noise difference when I unplugged it while the car was running and started the car up. No stutter and the engine light was gone. I guess I’ll buy the other 5 they have lol
    • No, code 21 is very straightforward. It can only be the things described in that diagnostic flow. In fact it has no way of knowing that the spark plug resistance is out of spec.
