first time it was coming up left bank rich, then after a dyno run weeks later to check it........ it now comes up with left bank lean.

hasnt done so for a few weeks though.

also how can it know its the left bank when it's only got the one O2 sensor observing both banks at once.......... haha

Stupid farking ECU. Must be a way to trick it.

Also noticed boost seems to be spiking which wasn't seen on the dyno sheets first time around. Scotty's wastegate mod will be here soon, hopefully that settles the boost down.

I sent it today Ryan, you should see it before the end of the week.

Your controller won't be having an easy time trying to control boost, the actuator will definitely help it.

Had the tune sorted out this morning. Idles much nicer now, and throttle is sorted.

Fault code was throttle circuit, had some weird behaviours (like fault light going on and off with throttle press/release with the stock ECU plugged in), but after clearing everything, resetting, and verifying, it now feels really good.

Now to enjoy it!

Nope. I can't find a blank table referring to throttle mapping, and according to the tuner a blank F-con table should leave the ECU to control that function.

They have no idea what caused the fault, but I'll just have to keep an eye on it and if it reoccurs its either a problem with the throttle position sensor or a problem with the wiring harness for the cruise control.

Shitloads better though. SHITLOADS!

Drove home today, fault code free until not far from home... when the left bank lean and some kind of left bank voltage error codes popped up.

Throttle is still fine though, I'll have to see if I can find some kind of solution. Fingers crossed!

Car is now sitting out the back... tomorrow night I should start on the cooling overhaul. Unless the Scotty Actuator turns up tomorrow, in which case I'll be chucking that in :D

Do you have any way of seeing the O2 correction that the stock ECU is reading? If so, is it cycling- counting up and counting down? That'll be whats causing the error codes, I'm sure its to do with the way everything interacts and not your actual AFRs changing.

i don't, no. Is this something the Cypher cable can do?

I'm sure there would be a way to loop the signal back.

AFRs look fine on the wideband so I'm sure they're not actually changing.

Yes, the cipher cable will show you the info, but without the reflash ability, you can't get rid of the code. In my car its as simple as selecting the fault code and turning it off, then reflashing.

Its about the end of my ability- I don't know how the FCon is manipulating the ECU data. Best to get them to have a play with the O2 functions within FCon, and see if its able to take the role of O2 correction on.

Oh boy, where to start.

The stock ecu is trying to adjust the fuel rich and lean many times a minute. If it doesn't see a corresponding change on the narrowband it will throw a fault. How can it do this with no control over the fuel anymore? There is no way to send a matched but delayed signal back to the ecu, you could throw it some random sine wave but our ecu is way to smart for that.

The wideband will show a set AFR at idle with the HKS, the stock ecu would normally be cycling a rich/lean pulse not holding a stable afr. Using the narrow band output from the wideband controller won't change anything.

Can the HKS take over O2 correction, using the factory fuel target table (because FCon won't let you enter a target table), with either a wideband or narrowband feedback?

Should work (theoretically) with factory injectors- any bigger injectors, the section in the target table for AFR correction would be to big and you couldn't tune correctly.

Why would you want factory style correction anyway?

Target AFR's perhaps, but you would have to rely on the wideband a little too much for my liking. Without a full standalone we are frigging around in the dark.

    • One thing I can tell you is, do it properly the first time. If you encounter unexpected problems just let the car sit for a week or two if you have to get some other parts or figure stuff out.  I'd have said go and use as many OEM parts as possible but since you want to change the turbo later on a custom kit is probably the better choice. Since I have no experience with RB25 just compare parts diagrams and images before buying a line kit and it should be easy to see if it has everything you need. Amayama has very good parts diagrams and part number lists, that is what I used a bunch to figure out what I might need. And don't forget to plan ahead and possibly renew other stuff that's easy to get to while you're in there doing the turbo lines. Happy wrenching
    • Update 4:   Hi all, good news. Engine is running and all the gaskets and seals seem to be working as intended. No leaks so far, even the JB Weld seems to hold. I flushed out the old coolant a few times and put in fresh coolant, not Nissan stuff, I decided to try the Ravenol Protect FL22, they claim it works for a wide variety of JDM cars and the opinions on it by some people were pretty good. And it has the nice poison green color! And man am I glad I bought a coolant system tester earlier this year, vacuum filling works wonders on this engine. I can definitely recommend this to anyone still doing it the old school way. All you need is compressed air supply. Will have to do a small test drive as soon as I can, I removed the gauge cluster again as the tacho needle was still bouncing around a bit but it was much better than before already.  I also found some cracks on all 4 tires inner and outer sidewalls. Apparently these tires should 't be parked on for extended periods or be kept under 0 degrees during storage, which I did not know. Clearly the previous owner didn't look into those details either, he probably bought them just cause they are cool semi-slicks. I'm just wondering how tf I am supposed to reach 30-80 degree tire temperatures on the public road consistenly, these tires were never going to work for my use case. I'll probably order Continental SportContact7 ones as these are the best allround summer tire available right now and I don't think I'll need anything crazier for now. Do let me know if you have experience with various tires and which ones you recommend.
    • You have no idea how many goddamn boxes I received these past three months haha Most have been put to use by now though, luckily
    • Not going to pretend I didn't do a bit of junky work this time around, but mostly due to the fact that some things I am not willing to spend days fixing right now, like wiring. I try to do most things properly the first time around.
    • Regardless of neglect or incompetence, fixing either is tedious and annoying. Most of the neglect on my car is definitely rust. I hope I can at least pass inspections later on and they won't fail the car due to slightly corroded hardlines. I was generous with rust converter and wax and it looks ok, most lines in the rear are hard to see properly anyways.  Definitely will test them though to make sure they don't rupture under pressure, in that case the car isn't going anywhere this year.
